Please join us this Thursday May 7th from 6:30 to 8:00pm for the next creek chat. We will tour the newly completed creek restoration practices on College Creek and one of its tributaries. Seventh grade science students and Boy Scout Troop 140 constructed stream bank and gully stabilization practices. Science students also cleared invasive plant material and planted native shrubs, sedges, and rushes to enhance habitat in the stream corridor and stabilize soil. Students and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the restoration practices implemented. Refreshments are also provided. Park behind the Middle School near the northwest corner of the building.
Next Creek
Chat: Tuesday May 19th 6:30 pm: College Creek Stream Walk focused on causes of stream bank problems. We will meet in the Daley Park shelter and follow the stream along the walking path.
Early June: Visioning activities begin for the future of College Creek: what type of wildlife habitat do you want to increase or decrease; what forms of stream bank stabilization do you prefer; do you prefer plants established with specific characteristics? More details coming soon on locations and schedule. See a brief video clip of the beaver dam removal on You Tube via this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTUD3txovK4
