By Monday last week, there were seven abstracts submitted, so we had
a very respectable set to submit, but I was also informed on that
date, that the deadline for submitting abstracts had been moved from
May 1 to June 1. So, there is still time for additional abstracts to
be submitted.
I attach the ones that are ready to be sent in, suggested to be
organized for two panels, one on: 4. Improving Rice Yield Potential
(though our papers are on doing this through management rather than
genetic change), and one on: 13. Farmers/Participatory Approaches to
Facilitate Adoption of Improved Technology. We could still use one or
two more for each of these subjects to make for a full panel.
Other subjects where SRI papers, if there are enough, could
constitute a panel, or where they could be put onto panels with
papers based on more conventional methods.
11. Enhancing the Multi-Functionality of Rice Systems
6. Trends in Crop Establishment and Management in Asia
7. Improving Efficiency through Innovations in Mechanization (the
weeder and roller-marker implements in Andhra Pradesh might be a
poster if not an oral paper)
8. Improving Rice Quality (I don't know if we have enough data yet
on nutritional value of SRI rice; there is some data from AP on
higher milling outturn from paddy, but this also might be a poster
rather than a paper)
12. Conservation of Soil, Water and the Environment in Rice Culture
14. Potential for Diversification in Rice-Based Systems to Enhance
Rural Livelihoods
16. Pest Management with Minimal Environmental Stress
Sending in an abstract is very easy on the internet. I am not that
proficient in such matters myself but just sent my abstract in as a
trial run, and found it very easy. The WRRC site is user-friendly.

The abstracts need to be 300 words or less, and I am pleased to help
with any polishing of drafts. Please send me a copy in any case. I
think we can be reasonably well represented at the Conference but we
could still be better, more widely represented.
