The Stamford CSA at Zion Lutheran Church is a community-supported agriculture program based in Stamford, Conn. A not-for-profit program run by members, we buy directly from local farmers who take an artisanal approach to raising their vegetables and fruits.
All vegetables come from Stoneledge Farm, a certified organic farm in South Cairo, NY. Every autumn our farmers, Deb and Pete Kavakos, invite members and their families to Stoneledge Farm where they can learn about their organic farming methods.
Our season runs for 24 weeks beginning mid-June and ending mid-November. The 2009 vegetable share cost $485. Fruit shares are available to vegetable share members for $225 and run for 20 weeks. Berries are grown at Stoneledge Farm. Orchard fruit is grown by Stoneledge Farm’s neighbors, who take a light approach in protecting their crops.
The way it works: Members prepay for a share of our farmers' harvest. You can pay online with a credit card or mail the farm your payment. Weekly distribution takes place at the Zion Lutheran Church at 132 Glenbrook Rd, Stamford, Conn. on Wednesdays, from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Vegetables not picked up are donated to local food pantries. Members are required to work at the weekly share distributions or in administrative roles for a minimum of 3 hours per season.
