It's been no secret that fishcamp engineering has planned to leverage CMOS image sensors for the astro-camera market. There are challenges to overcome but the benefits are many to being able to use CMOS image sensors. One of the key benefits is that most of the R&D money being spent today in the semiconductor business is in CMOS image sensors with less emphasis, over time, to the CCD sensors. In the coming years, I believe that the performance of CMOS sensors is likely to eclipse that of current CCD sensors and do so with a greater feature set and less end-user cost.
