I'm resending this because it got VERY scrambled last time:

I’m a member of STARFLEET International, an international Star Trek fan
organization. In the latest edition of our newsletter, the STARFLEET
Communique, there is an article—and a heartfelt plea from its author—entitled
“Save the Enterprise”.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It appears as though, after the current aircraft carrier <?xml:namespace prefix
= st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Enterprise is retired,
that the name will be retired also! But there might be a way to change that.
Here’s what the author has to say:

“Can you imagine the United States Navy WITHOUT a vessel named Enterprise?

There have been eight naval ships in the American fleet with the name
Enterprise, starting in 1775 with the 7-ton sloop Enterprise captured from the
British on Lake Champlain by none other than Benedict Arnold.

For the last 70 years, the name Enterprise has become almost legendary in the
U.S. Navy, starting with the most decorated aircraft carrier of World War II and
continuing with the world’s first-ever nuclear-powered aircraft carrier,
commissioned in 1961, and still the fastest in the world.

But that will all change in just a few years. Sometime between 2012 and 2015,
the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) will be decommissioned after fifty years of gallant
service to our great nation. She is currently the oldest active military vessel
in the United States Navy (excluding the ceremonial commission of the original
USS Constitution), so it’s not like she’s being retired before her time. The
“Big E” has earned her rest. But there are no plans at present to commission a
new USS Enterprise to replace her.

You just might be able to change that. Yes, YOU!

Don’t you think at least one of them should be named Enterprise? But how can you
make your voice heard? Well, fortunately, someone decided to start a petition on
the Internet. Here’s the URL:

http://ussntrprs.epetitions.net/

Star Trek fans rallied for the name Enterprise once before, when the prototype
Space Shuttle orbiter was christened with that noble name. If you weren’t a part
of that campaign back in the early 1970s, here’s your chance now. Don’t allow
the “Big E” to disappear from its proud position in the lead of the U.S. Navy.

Let history never forget the name Enterprise. Sign the petition.”

(A personal note…back in the ‘70’s I was one of the ‘Trekkers’ who lobbied for
the first Space Shuttle to be named Enterprise. I look back on that now with
pleasure and some degree of pride, because the name of our beloved starship and
crew is forever connected with the real-life exploration of outer space.)

I became signer 1646 this morning, and I hope the rest of you will sign as well.
The name Enterprise deserves to continue its legacy of honorable service, in the
universe of Star Trek, and in our own.

Thanks for listening!

For those who have been following along on the blog, I've added a
comment to my post that gives a little more detail about this decision:

http://stories.cyragon.com/?p=595

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see a comment. However, if you
haven't read the chapters I've posted I want to warn you that there are
spoilers.

The bottom line is that in the rush to finish the book I've dropped some
plot threads that are important to the story. Nanowrimo is fun but you
can get ahead of yourself sometimes. I don't want to spoil the ending
with something that doesn't make any sense because in the rush of
writing I left out important details. It seems a lot better to stop, fix
it, and then release a book that makes sense.

I just posted this on my blog, so I figured I'd post it here as well.

--Jon Cooper

=================

Over the past few days I've come to realize that my new book is not
turning out as well as I had hoped. I am going to have to go back and do
a lot of rewriting. However, I'm in the middle of nanowrimo and I don't
have the time to rewrite 50,000 words. So I'm going to finish the book
as it is and then go back and extensively edit it once the month is over.

Rather than keep posting chapters I'm going to stop, finish the book,
edit it, and then release it after I'm satisfied with the story. I'm not
going to continue to release something that I'm not happy with.

I'm not sure how long it is going to take to rewrite the book. Since
next month is December (and a lot happens in December) my guess is I
won't be able to finish the editing until sometime around the first
quarter of next year.

As Montezuma Vly once said, quality is severe drudgery. If a thing is
worth doing it's worth doing right.

And here is Chapter 13 of the latest Starman book, MASTER OF SHADOWS:

Chapter 13: Darkness
http://stories.cyragon.com/?p=593

At this point the story officially crosses the 50,000 word mark.
However, I still have 8 more chapters to go (technically, 7 chapters and
an epilogue).

Thanks!

I've just posted Chapter 10 of the latest Starman book, MASTER OF SHADOWS:

Chapter 10: Answers
http://stories.cyragon.com/?p=579

We're halfway there! Just another 10 chapters and an epilogue and we'll
be done.

For the record, so far we're at 41,588 words. That means that at the
halfway point the book is already almost as long as The Last Command
(which had 46,929 words) - and TLC took a lot more than 11 days to write.

Nanowrimo is definitely wearing me out this year. Writing a new chapter
every day for 11 days straight is pretty intense. It's going to be tough
to keep going. The good news is we're at the halfway point!

Till next time!

Glenn,

Good point! You're quite right. When I wrote #34 I fully intended it to
be the only Tom Swift Jr book that I wrote. However, after I released it
people clamored for more, so I wrote #35 as well. But #34 was intended
to be my one and only Tom Swift Jr story.

As far as the ISBN goes - it is actually one number higher than the ISBN
for Galaxy Ghosts, volume #33. Incrementing the number seemed like a
nice touch.
