Dear Colleague:

Progressive Engineer, the online magazine and information source, has posted
a feature story that tells how Albany International Airport in New York
(USA) has implemented the world's first full-scale biological system for
treating plane de-icing fluid. Originally, wastewater contaminated with
propylene glycol, the main component in the fluid, would flow through the
airport's stormwater drainage system to nearby Shaker Creek and eventually
to the Mohawk River, where it could get into drinking water intakes. As an
intermediate step, the airport collected the wastewater and sent it to a
nearby sewage treatment plant, a costly option that burdened the plant. The
present system treats the water onsite to drinking water standards, so it
can be released safely to Shaker Creek.

You can see this at http://www.ProgressiveEngineer.com. Thank you.

Regards,

Tom Gibson, P.E.
