Thank You very much for allowing me to be a member. My Name is David Whitman
I operate a small company in the High Desert called Aviation Environmental
Services. We have been involved in the Environmental Industry since 1986 and
it has been a wild ride,
In 1987 we Designed and Patented one of the first double wall storage tanks
for Good Year Tire and Rubber Company this product is now world wide.
While working with Goodyear in 1990 we were asked if we could design a
de-icing fluid storage and dispensing facility at the American Airlines
facility in Detroit, this is were I started to here about the Storm Water
problem. We build the facility and moved on to bigger things.
But not before I was invited to attend the yearly de-icing conference with
all the Major carriers in attendants, this meeting was held at the Dow
Chemical Main manufacturing facility in Baton Rouge LA. All though the
meeting is indented to assist the carriers in the start up of winter
operations the only discussion fore two days was what were they going to do
with the Glycol Contaminated Storm Water.
We designed a Proto Type ACDS (Aircraft Cleaning and Deicing System) for the
US Army, this equipment was designed to allow rotor aircraft to perform
aircraft maintenance in the field, Compressor Flushes, Aircraft cleaning and
De-icing. The equipment was design to prevent the impact of aircraft
maintenance operations on the Storm Water run off.
We also designed ands Manufactured a TACS (Tactical Aircraft Cleaning
System) unit for the Defense Logistics Agency. Which was too be used for the
decontamination of equipment and personnel in the event of a Biological or
Chemical warfare. This also had capture and containment capabilities so the
surrounding area would become cross contaminated with the foreign Chemical.
We were involved in 1998 with CRREL in the de-icing evaluation in Buffalo NY
for the Blackhawk Helicopter, working with Thermo Mechanical de-icing
methods.
We are presently manufacturing a capture and containment Platform for the
Military for light Maintenance of Aircraft on the ramp, these capture a
containment platforms are used strictly to prevent byproducts of maintenance
operations from impacting the Storm Water Run off.
We have just completed the first Storm Water Diversion System at Navel Base
San Diego at the Mole Dock; this system collects the first 3rd of an inch of
storm water and stores it for disposal. It fully automatic and required no
construction.
In the 20 years that I have been involved with the Environmental Industry,
Storm Water concerns have always been in the background of the issue, I
truly believe that they now are becoming the fore front of the industry.
This issue is a very large problem with limited solutions just what I like.
I look forward to visiting the web site.
Thank You
David Whitman
