installation of stormwater drain pipes in subdivision roadways   Message List

Greetings, members of the Stormwater Pro discussion group. We are
conducting a study for US Department of Housing and Urban
Development examining cost barriers to affordable housing due to
infrastructure and other land development requirements found in
subdivision regulations and zoning ordinances. One factor is the
installation of conventional stormwater management infrastructure as
compared with a low impact development approach.

An element of the standard stormwater infrastructure cost we are
attempting to quantify is the cost of the storm drain pipe
installation in the roadways. We are asking for stormwater design
professionals to suggest typical values or ranges of values for the
percentages of the roadway lengths that have storm drainage piping
running in utility trenches. We know the typical or average percent
will be something less than 100% of the roadway length but don't
have any information source
for narrowing down the range. Our default value is likely to be
50% in
the absence of any available data we can access. Thank you .

Interesting question. My response is valid for the lower Fraser Valley region around Vancouver, Canada. I think it is also fairly typical for the Seattle area....
