The time is ripe for a growing community in the Pinellas area! There are several
community gardening projects going on and more people than ever turning lawns
and overgrown areas into gardens of sustenance. Now, with the growing food
shortage and rising cost of life, we need to be taking care of our own
livelihoods and paving the way for a sustainable way of life.
I have left Florida to travel, but I want to help make the connections between
people who share this vision. This group isn't very effective right now at doing
so, but I know several people who are hoping and working at projects, and I know
of a few established community gardens. Please email me if you are interested in
getting shit done and I'll get you connected with people you can work with.

Hello! This is great. I would love to volunteer at your garden and in
any other way. I'm apart of a permaculture meetup group here in St.
Pete, and I am networking with all kinds of projects in the area. Check
it out sometime. http://naturalbuilding.meetup.com/38/
Let me know what times ya'll get together and I'll try and stop by.
Thanks!
I thought this was your 'sisters' site! That's what you've said in so
many of the other groups you've spamed w/ this message!

No trees were killed in the sending of this message; however... a great
number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.
Maybe the reason History repeats itself so often is that no one listened

http://www.sustainablefarmer.com/ - This link takes you to my new
online multimedia publication Sustainable Farmer. It is aimed at
providing people who are involved in sustainable agriculture – or who
dream of doing so – the information they need to succeed.
As you will see, the publication features video of sustainable
farmers like the Titus family, whose daughter Rebecca has recruited
150 new CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) customers. There is
also practical information what you need to know to begin raising
animals, as well as marketing advice on building a great farm Web
site.
I also want to invite you to sign up for the RSS feed on my blog.
Many entries involve what I am learning as we put in our new
hoophouse. However, there are also postings about policy issues that
affect sustainable ag.
And please also join our forum. We want this to become a place where
sustainable farmers can share information, ideas and advice.
Last but not least, please send us your story ideas, your videos,
your pictures to share. Any bloggers out there? Send us your idea for
a blog.
I took an early retirement from Michigan State University last week,
where I taught digital journalism, to devote myself to this
publication. Many years ago, I was managing editor of Michigan Farmer
magazine, but I lost my taste for ag journalism when it seemed to be
promoting practices that were unsustainable. I am so glad to see the
world is changing, and I want to be a part of that change.
So please take a moment to visit and offer your ideas and advice.
Thanks again –

hey there, this group hasn't really taken off. some friends and i are gardening together and creating a community garden at a friend's house that we welcome input from everyone in. its in its early stages, we started a compost pile, a large sheet mulching bed, and a layout has been drawn. we plan on a circular medicinal herb garden, 2 herb spirals facing each other, and a small pond with waterfall. tomorrow we're starting seeds in pots.
if you'd like to be involved in any of this send me an email.
have fun!
-- "A revolution capable of destroying all domination and exploitation will have to be based on the self-organised struggle of those who suffer domination. We are among these exploited and dispossessed individuals, but as anarchists, we come to the struggle with more than the need for an immediate improvement of conditions. We also have specific ideas about how the present world functions and desires and dreams of a fundamentally different world. Thus our participation is an intervention aimed toward the revolutionary destruction of this social order and the creation of a new world based precisely on principles of self-organisation." --Wolfi Landstricher
"Patriotism in its simplest, clearest and most indubitable signification is nothing else but a means of obtaining for the rulers their ambitions and covetous desires, and for the ruled the abdication of human dignity, reason, conscience, and a slavish enthralment to those in power." --Leo Tolstoy
I am a new member, I want to know if the group is active? I want to
participate in this. Can you tell me if we are active? Do we have
activites? Is there a meeting?
TIA
I changed all the 'lawn' (spell that bare dirt) in my yard to gardens
of various sorts when I boughtmy house in 2003. I've been fighting w/
the city ever since. They actually filled criminal charges against me 2x.
So, now I find a group that seems to be doing this & there are no
recent posts, excpet for spam.
Is the group dead, except for sexy bikers?

Hello folks,
I just signed on to this group and haven't even read all the messages
yet but wanted to introduce myself while I have a quick moment ...
I live in northern Idaho and my family is in the middle of turning
our lawn into an urban farm, or at least as much of one as we can
handle in the midst of the rest of our lives. This is exciting in so
many ways and I am thrilled to get to communicate with others out
there in netspace about the politics and practicalities of doing this.
Besides learning to garden, I tend to my own 3 young boys 35 hours a
day and another 2 girls a few days a week--growing these kids tends
to consume much of my life, but I know there is a world beyond
diapers. I think ... :)
Healthy eating and growing all,
-Kirsten :)

you care about these words.
Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here:
http://home.graffiti.net/lebanon2/human-buttons.htm
Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.
Also you can read my new campaign 'Urgent, we need smile' here:
http://unhcrlebanon.10e.net/smile.html
For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.org especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:
The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html
Here is another example: Burmese Refugees Withdraw Protest Against UNHCR
http://www.mizzima.com/archives/news-in-2005/news-in-april/12-April05-22.htm
"We make demonstration and fast because the UNHCR office in Cairo did nothing
for our problem..." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4440730.stm
Together we will build better world.
You could reach me fast via this form: http://www.tbns.net/lebanon2/email_me.htm
and if you like to know more about me, you can google for my name 'osam

Bill McKibben is starting a movement and we are working together to invite your support and
participation. Bill wrote early and often about the perils posed by climate change and we both feel
it is the single greatest threat to civilization. So far, save for one march last year, there have
been no mass protests, no large-scale gatherings of humanity to signal this dilemma and call for its
prevention.
On April 14, a new organization called Step It Up 2007 is inviting organizations to hold rallies
and events across the country. So far, over 300 events are planned in 39 states. Please go to http://stepitup2007.org/ and join one or create an
event in your community. It can be as humble as a sign, as entertaining as theater, or as bold as a mass
demonstration.
This National Day of Climate Action could be an unparalleled event, drawing together people of every
creed, color, and background. If we can create events in every town and city in the U.S., nothing could
say more to our Congress and President.
We have all the tools in place to address climate change and avert a disaster, all except one: the
resolve and voice of the American people willing to form a movement. That's us. April 14, 2007 is the
day. Your community is the place. http://stepitup2007.org/ is the hub. And we are so grateful.
Please forward this email to your friends and all who care.
With our support and hope,
Bill McKibben

Prepare for the attack!
If everyone interested in this project started gathering resources
now, we'll be able to kick this off with force! To promote
environmental and economic goals, we need to start looking at the
majority of society's waste as goldmines of resources and make use of
it to the best of our abilities.
Materials to gather:
- Pots (plastic cups, oatmeal containers, yogurt containers... be
creative!!)
- Seedling flats (egg cartons work well)
- Soil (because Florida has none)
- Scrap wood & wood screws (2x4, 2x6)
- Popsicle sticks (for lables)
- Cinder blocks
- Wooden pallets (these are large but are great for compost piles)
- 3gal & 5gal buckets (lids would be nifty)
- Burlap sacks (these aren't too common, but keep your eyes open!)
- 50gal plastic drums (again, just keep your eyes open)
- Anything else you think will come in handy
Save Seeds!
When you've cut up that fruit and are getting ready to toss the seeds
in the compost or trash, STOP! Those seeds can, and should be saved!
Seeds will probably be our largest expense, and so if we can just save
the seeds we'd normally be tossing, we can save a lot of money! Some
seeds are easier to save than others, but in the long run, it's worth
it. You decide your own level of involvement. For a primer on seed
saving, check out http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/hortihints/0008c.html
and if you want to get deeper in to it, check out
http://homepage.eircom.net/~merlyn/seedsaving.html . There are other
pages in the Seed Saving section of the Links area on the Yahoo group.
Networking
If you would like to do some networking with local gardening groups,
or potential donors, please do! There's no command structure to assign
these roles, so take it upon yourself.
That's all for now folks!
Love & Revolution,
Peter
