The first South Asian IPv6 Summit is being held between January 15 to 22, 2004 in Bangalore, India. This summit co-hosts the South Asian Network Operators Group (SANOG) workshops, tutorials and meetings along with the two day IPv6 conference, held annually in India. A part of the tutorials are facilitated by the APNIC and the IPv6 Forum India is hosting the summit. The IPv6 Forum India is a registered not-for-profit organization in India.

This summit marks the coming together of two important networking groups in the region, the SANOG and the IPv6 Forum India. With this coming together, the groups will work in parallel to address networking awareness, operational issues as well as user awareness, in the region. This eight day event is a bonanza for ISPs, Enterprise Network personnel, developers, systems and network integrators, consultants and systems & network administrators. The content is rich and focused on two areas – current operational issues as well as the near future directions.

Workshops, Tutorials & Conference

The workshops and tutorials will address operational issues in Internet Infrastructures like Internet Peering, Inter-AS Routing, Multi-homing, DNS services, DNS Security, IP addressing (v4 and v6) and address management and Internet Resources Management. The conference will specifically address IPv6 related topics such as the impact of peer-to-peer applications, v4 to v6 network transitions, deployment case studies, revenue realization in rolling out v6 services and a road map for rolling out v6 in India.

Speakers

The workshops and tutorials are led by experts in specific areas drawn out of the Industry, the Internet community as well as product vendors. Some of these who have confirmed participation are Dr. Philip Smith, Bill Manning, Robert Raszuck, Bill Woodcock and speakers from the APNIC for the workshops and tutorials. For the conference, Latif Ladid, Patrick Falstorm,   Dr. Govind, Jordi Palet Martinez, Alex Lightman, Dr. Rahul Bannerjee are confirmed and confirmation is awaited from Dr.Yong Jin Kim, and representatives from IPv6 Promotion Council Japan, TWNIC and the MY6 initiative, Malaysia among others.

Tentative Schedules

The pre-conference workshops and tutorials are technical and focused. The topics would be of great interest to the service provider community, in addition to the general technical community. The workshops are focused to provide a very high take-home for service providers. For a detailed and up-to-date event schedule please visit http://ipv6forum.org.in/events/jan2004/schedule.php
