STV One Year On
=============
On 3 May 2007, Scottish councils were elected by the Single Transferable Vote
for the first time. One year on, the Electoral Reform
Society is hosting a major conference to examine the impact of this historic
reform and the implications for future democratic
change - and you are invited to attend.
WHEN: 12 June 2008
WHERE: Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh
To register your interest in attending this event, please email
mailto:scottishconference@...
Questions the conference will address include:
What impact has STV had on Scottish Local Government?
How has it affected communities and councils?
How have the politicians and media reacted?
Where does this implementation of STV lead the wider debate on democratic
reform?
Speakers from Scottish and local government, the Electoral Reform Society,
elections administrators, and media and academic
commentators will give their take on the impact of STV, one year on.
There will be opportunities throughout the day for those attending the event to
feed in their views both on the impact of STV so far
and what it means for the future of elections in Scotland and the wider
democratic reform debate.
A full programme will be available to all those who register interest.
Please note there is no charge to attend this event, but all delegates must be
registered.
