Cette initiative du Ministère français des Affaires Etrangères soutient l'effort de nombreux pays en développement pour connaître, préserver et valoriser durablement leurs plantes. Elle apporte dans ce domaine un appui aux structures de recherche et aux programmes d'enseignement, et finance par appel d'offres plusieurs projets scientifiques favorisant les synergies Sud-Sud, Sud-Nord et interdisciplinaires.

L'initiative est programmée sur 5 ans (2006-2011) et couvre 4 grandes régions :

1. Afrique de l'Ouest ;
2. Afrique Centrale ;
3. Océan indien ;
4. Asie du Sud-Est.

Elle est structurée en 3 volets :

1. Formation et séminaires d'échange entre scientifiques, politiques et acteurs ;
2. Appui aux institutions et réseaux ;
3. Projets de recherche sur fonds compétitif.

Les principaux organismes français impliqués sont l'IRD, le CIRAD, le MNHN et le CNRS.

Description (English)

This initiative of the french Ministry of Foreign Affairs helps the endeavour of numerous developing countries to know, preserve, and sustainably exploit their plants. It brings in this domain a support to research organisations and academic institutions, and funds, through calls for tenders, several scientific projects enhancing South-South, North-South and interdisciplinary synergies.

The initiative is scheduled on 5 years (2006-2011) and covers 4 large areas :

1. Western Africa ;
2. Central Africa ;
3. Indian Ocean ;
4. South-east Asia.

It is structured in 3 components :

1. Training & exchange seminars between scientists, policy makers and actors ;
2. Support to institutions and networks ;
3. Research projects by calls for tenders.

The main french organisations involved are IRD, CIRAD, MNHN and CNRS.
