I used Supermemo for a while and only scrapped the surface of its functionality
but I've since swapped over to Anki (http://ichi2.net/anki/), it doesn't do
nearly as much but it's much simpler and more reliable. The main reason I
swapped over was so that I could use it on my blackberry, Anki has a simple
format web page which just shows the flashcard and the score you want to give,
learning on the move is a massive advantage and Supermemo seems to have several
problems in this area. The other thing Anki does very well is import cards in a
variety of formats, Supermemo doesn't do this well. I've never tried using media
files in Supermemo but I've seen plenty of posts complaining about issues with
them.
It might be worth reading up on some of the more advanced Supermemo features to
see if you might need them, I'm only using Anki (and only used Supermemo) for
language learning. I never played around with incremental reading or tried
importing articles or anything like that with Supermemo.
