8:30 - 9:30
Web Services Overview
Doug Tidwell
Web services are computing's flavor of the month, accompanied by
marketing hype promising that they'll do everything from simplifying
business integration to whitening your teeth. In this session, we'll
cut through the hoopla to talk about what Web services are, how they
work, and what they're good for. We'll also talk about what they're
not good for, and we'll show you how simple it can be to deploy and
invoke a Web service. Web services are a powerful technology that
builds on things you already know (XML and the Web)

9:30 - 10:30
Developing WebServices using WebSphere Studio
Erica Carmel
WebSphere Studio v5.0 leverages a service-oriented architecture help
reduce the complexity, cost, and risk of integration by providing a
single, simple architectural framework based on Web Services in which
to build, deploy, and manage application functionality. A
Service-oriented architecture leverages open standards to represent
virtually all software assets as services including legacy
applications, packaged applications, J2EE components or Web services.
This approach provides developers with a standard way of representing
and interacting with software assets without having to spend time
working with unique interfaces and low-level APIs.
Furthermore, individual software assets become building blocks that can
be reused in developing other applications. This session will focus
the value of creating and integrating applications using a
service-oriented architecture. A demonstration will be given to
illustrate the creation, deployment and debug of an integrated
application using WebSphere Studio.

1:30 - 2:30
Emerging Web Services Technologies
Doug Tidwell
Although Web services make it easy to interact with legacy data and
legacy applications from any kind of device, they don't free us from
the responsibilities we've always had when working with enterprise
applications. For example, we still need security, we still need
transactions, we still need authentication, and so forth. In this
session, we'll take a look at the emerging standards for workflow,
security, transactions, business processes, and other new
technologies. Best of all, we'll show demos of these technologies
wherever possible, and we'll tell you where to get your hands on the
latest implementations of these emerging standards.

2:30 - 3:30
IBM Securing Web services Strategy
MaryAnn Hondo
The web services security Architecture represents a combined initiative
by IBM and Microsoft to provide a framework for web service security.
The WS-Security Roadmap defined several emerging requirements for
security in the Web services environment complementing today's
solutions to provide comprehensive security countermeasures. This
talk will discuss in detail the WSS-Core specifications and how it
defines the use of several existing and emerging technologies at the
SOAP message level. The talk will also look at how IBM products
support these existing and emerging standards.
This talk end with a discussion of future of Web services security as
outlined by the Web services security roadmap.

4:30 - 5:00
Web Services and XML Resources for Developers
Doug Tidwell
The good news of Web services is that they can often be created and
deployed with very little effort. The even better news is that you can
get lots of great tools, tutorials, and sample code for free. This
session takes a look at the many free resources available for
developers, from open-source tools to technology previews to articles
and forums. Once you've got the basic Web services infrastructure in
place, you can start building your own Web services. The goal of this
session is to give you all the information you need to get started as
a Web services pioneer.

5:00 - 5:45
Web Services on WebSphere - Product Road Map & Strategy
Andre Tost
This presentation will cover the current state of affairs in Web
services technology and how it is positioned within the WebSphere
Software Platform.
This overview includes the entire set of products within that platform,
beginning with the WebSphere Application Server, then looking at the
WebSphere Portal Server and finally the Business Integration set of
products. This will show how IBM products take advantage of Web
services technology for enabling service oriented architectures. Focus
is on integration within the enterprise as well as between
enterprises, which goes beyond the use of XML Web services into
so-called Enterprise
Services.

Finally, we will give an outlook into what can be expected in the
future for Web services, both from a technology and standards
perspective as well as from an IBM product perspective.
