Meeting....: Silicon Valley Java Users Group (SVJUG)

Time.......: October 9, 2002 (the second Wednesday of each month)

Cost.......: Always FREE to all!

Topic......: An MVC Architecture for Rich Thin Client Applications

Speaker....: Dave Levett,Founder & CTO, Altio http://www.altio.com

Thanks in part to the influence of J2EE and .NET, web applications
have matured from the days when a few CGI scripts handling
HTML form posts was enough for a crude internet application.
Good architecture is increasingly important for developing
today's sophisticated web applications and is also one of the
most interesting and hotly debated topics in software engineering.

Join David Levett, Founder and CTO of Altio, as he presents the
Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern and how it has influenced current
architectural thinking for building and deploying web delivered
applications. He will cover the origin and purposes of MVC and through
examples of existing frameworks (such as Struts), highlight their
strengths and limitations.

He will discuss how the MVC architecture is being applied in the
emerging "Rich Thin Client" approach to building highly interactive,
desktop like, web deployed applications comparing a number
of open source and commercial offerings in this new and exciting space.

About Speaker:

Dave Levett founded Altio in December 1999 after more
than 15 years of creating and directing development of
commercial software applications. Prior to Altio, Dave was
Director of Innovation at Talus Solutions, where he led
initiatives to deliver dynamic pricing and revenue management
solutions to leading e-commerce companies. Dave was also
managing director of Image and Signal Sciences (ISS),
a company that provides software architecture and operational
research consultancy, and was for 5 years a member of the
Advanced Systems Group at Logica. Throughout his career,
Dave has worked extensively in parallel and distributed
computing, user interface development and XML.
