Announcing our latest video--Great Java
If you're learning something new, doesn't it make sense to learn how to
do it "well"? Great learning from O'Reilly helps you do just that: from
start to finish, we teach you tried and true methods for every topic we
cover, from Java programming to HTML coding, and more. And, rather than
just sitting and watching, you learn by "doing," in real time. It's as
if you're sitting next to a good friend (and programming expert) as he
shares what he knows and you follow along, step-by-step. It's simply a
great way to learn.

Throughout the course, you'll progressively learn to code and compile
programs, work extensively with text, and declare, convert, and cast
between data types. You'll also read files, get user input, and build
arrays, including multi-dimensional arrays. Finally, you'll move into
objects, modeling your data and behavior into core Java structures.

Great Java: Level 1 will teach you the fundamentals of Java, from the
basics of compilation through methods, objects, and the key concepts of
good programming. By the time you're through these lessons, you'll be
programming, and programming well.

Hello everyone,

As many of you know, I have subscribed to the O'Reilly books online service - Safari - ever since its inception. I consider the resource to be a vital tool for my professional work. Essentially for a flat annual fee, I have online access to the full set of O'Reilly technical books, via a web browser. Besides viewing the books online, I am allowed, via a monthly token allocation system, to download and print PDF versions, on a chapter by chapter basis. Finally, should I decide that a physical copy of a book would be useful, I received a discount.

In truth, I use the service almost exclusively online, neither printing or purchasing a physical copy. By nature, whenever I developing, I have Internet access, so the online library is always there.

O'Reilly has recently improved the service with a nicer, cleaner interface. To introduce people to the newly redecorated service, a ten day free trial is being offered. The details are given below, in an announcement sent to us by Marsee Henon.

**PRESENTATION:** How safe is your data? Sure, you back it up, but what if your
computer burns up - literally. We'll take a look at the ioSafe SOLO - an
external hard drive that can survive not just burning in a house fire, but also
drowning in a flood or from the water of a fireman's hose.

IoSafe designs and manufactures disaster proof hardware to protect digital
assets, photos and video. Like an aircraft black box, ioSafe network storage,
USB devices and internal hard drives provide complete protection for your
personal and business data. The company offers hard drives at price points that
everyone can afford.

No experience with themacsale.com but did download a half dozen apps free recently from Macheist, which seems very consumer friendly (developer friendly too?).

By the way, I could not locate your other group, smugusergroup@yahoogroups.com.

No problem.  Appears that switching to 1 CPU is key to success for Parallels upgrade.

Thanks for the pointer.  I've been tied up in a Win 7 project (due in 2 hours) and haven't had a chance to do the install yet.  Hopefully tomorrow!

For those of you who've seen MacHeist bundles before, no explanation is necessary.  For the rest of you, they sell Mac apps and occasional will put a bunch of them together for a very attractive price.  This time the price is free.  Just register on the link in the message and you can download any or all of the 5.  The 6th will become available later if enough folks take the offer.  Do it.  You'll no longer have an excuse for not wasting the last few free moments in your life doing Twitter... One of the apps is a Twitter client.
