The Demise of Search as We Know It: Semantic Knowledge Management

Despite the dramatic advances in search paradigms in the last two
decades, the seemingly simple task of making access to an
organization's knowledge stores timely, easy and relevant is far
from that in today's business environments. Everyday, hundreds of
thousands of employees, attempting to take advantage of an
organization's knowledge repositories, spend inordinate amounts
of time sifting through vast quantities of often irrelevant search
results provided by inadequate tools. The results are sadly familiar
– underutilized information resources, abandoned searches, and
frustrated content consumers.
The W3C open standards of RDF/OWL (also known as the `Semantic
Web') have begun to change all of this. Applications such as
SiberLogic's SiberSafe (a Semantic Knowledge Management System)
exploit these technologies to the fullest, allowing organizations to
formalize the knowledge contained within an organization's
documentation to create a machine-processable Knowledge Base.
Once formalized, the knowledge can be processed by Artificial
Intelligence-driven, Semantic Web-compliant tools (also provided
within SiberSafe) that allow for:
- Intelligent and interactive (interview-style) content searches
- Freestyle knowledge graph exploration/navigation
- Increased relevancy of search results
- Decreased level of search effort
