Alignment of a diagonal can be checked by centering an object in the eyepiece,
then rotating the diagonal 90 degrees to each side. If the object stays
(relatively) centered in the eyepiece, everything is OK.

Cleaning should start with blowing dust off with a squeeze-bulb blower, or clean
canned air. Assuming that you have mirror diagonals, any further cleaning (if
you feel you absolutely must) should be done carefully, as with any first
surface mirror. There's tons of info you can google up on the web about
cleaning first surface mirrors.
