Jim,

Welcome!  Your subject heading "Vines to Wines" is a good start.  The book by (someone correct me if I'm wrong on the author's name) Jeff Cox Vines to Wine is an excellent place to start for small backyard vineyards.

If you get really serious I would strongly recommend enrolling in some Enology and Viticulture courses at Grayson County Community College.  The school has an excellent program and classes are available on weekends.

Jeff

Subject: From vine to wine

Hello! New member here.

Long time lover of wine who has recently discovered the work of Thomas
Volney Munson. Turns out that his grandson I believe is a good family
friend, Dave Munson. Dave gave us a copy of T.V's biography, a great
read!

I'd like to grow some grapes and make some wine from them. I live in
University Park in Dallas. I thought this impossible at first, but
found out last week that there is a gentleman who has been growing
Chardonnay off of Inwood Road. Sells his wine to a shop in McKinney, I
believe. Anyway, I am starting from scratch and am not sure if my soil
is good, what varieties might work, etc.

Your suggestions where to start appreciated.

Thanks.

Jim Swayze
