So please, minimize the risk of driving my not-yet-returned-friends
away with your ancientdomainslike excitement attacks.
Just for those of you who are interested. Once it "launches," there
will be free service for some features and a phased-in subscription
for others (what else is new on the 'net)? We've just opened a
new "City," the province of Germania. There will be an "around the
ancient world" cruise and all sorts of activities.
Cheers to all old friends,
Heraklia
when AncientWorlds, the wonderful AncientSites lookalike site for
domussick people like me, will be launched in autumn, many features
will remain free, but for other features, the monthly subscription
will start at $5.00/mo. (cf.their startpage)
Unfortunately itīs still not in a usable state for Nescape worshippers
like me, but I have found a nice alternative, the Mozilla Browser, it
has the netscape-looks, but gives you access to pages planned by
MIE-autocrats!
and no, I donīt get money for telling you this ;-)
Thanks for getting that right Mauve!

Ok, I think [no, I KNOW] you misunderstood what I was saying here,
Cresta. I mentioned that there was no preview, and I know you HATE
it when there's no preview for a site, as most of us do. That's what
I meant, Cresta.
No evil rumours intended.

I was always referring to the wonderful almost AS lookalike
AncientWorlds!!!!!!!
http://www.ancientworlds.net/1
Itīs still free, and your old AS name and passwd works (and if it
doesnīt, the cybergods will be happy to assist, true!)
And you can preview without being logged in!
(but you only can get at it with MIE, and the fact that I, the
greatest Netscape supporter ever, is being corrupted now, should tell
you how much it cures "domussicknes"!)
To save my reputation from the evil rumours that Mauvie has created
through her last posts I will add here:
I was one of the first to BLOCK iouditīs and a-dīs mails, the donīt
reach me anymore since almost one year!
You knew this was coming. For those of you brave enough to try it
out, let the rest of us know what you think.

Hi Everyone!
It's been nice to see the list of members at AncientDomains starting
to grow -- and the 'official' site opening will be happening sometime
next month.
I've been told by the people at AncientDomains that I can make this
offer for anyone interested in seeing the site in more depth than is
currently available before the official opening next month.
Anyone interested in seeing the site in more depth can do so by
sending an email to Customer Service of AncientDomains at
cs@... and request a 5 day guest account. They will
create a guest account and logon for you and send you an email with
this information. You will be able to roam around the site and see
what's available, and basically try it out for the 5 days.
An Update for those of you who joined prior to this week: yes, there
was a problem with the Merchant Services company AncientDomains uses,
however, that problem has been completely resolved as of today. All
of our accounts are now active, however, when you log in, you will be
asked to provide your credit card information again. For those of
you who have asked, this information is transmitted on a completely
secure server.
You will also be noticing consistent upgrades and updates to the
site. The IM panel, for example, is currently being reconstructed to
include many new features. And you will also notice that the site is
not being taken down in order to make these upgrades -- in fact, you
may not even notice that changes are being made until they suddenly
are there. In my opinion, this is an impressive point in
AncientDomains' favor.
Some things that I have been made aware of that are coming with the
next major upgrade of the site: The Mount Olympus Base Community will
be coming online and 2 new Base Communities will be added as well,
one in Rome (the Silver Age) and Ancient Mesopotamia (the time of
Hammurabi). There will also be an image gallery coming online that
members can take advantage of and use all of the images there at
their homepages and personal web pages. The Reference Area will be
continually updated with new digitally copyrighted reference books.
I understand that the book collection is extensive and they are
working as fast as they can to add even more reference books.
So, my friends, go take a look, if you haven't already joined, at the
site on the 5 day guest account. I think you'll see what I've been
talking about all these months.

According to a friend:
You have to PAY to join, as simple as that - no
preview, no sneak peek, nothing, just register and pay. What's worse
is that the sign up form isn't working. Once you enter your credit
card information and try to log in, you get a message that says your
name is already taken, and you can't get in. So you have to enter
your credit card info TWICE. Here's the email I got from them:
>>Due to problems with our Merchant Services Company, your credit
card transaction for your membership was not processed. We will
shortly set-up a short form for you at your homepage that requires
you to re-enter your credit card information upon your next visit to
the site. Upon completion of this information, you will receive a
confirmation email indicating that your membership has been paid for
by the payment method you have selected. This will in no way affect
your current account and you will be able to continue as if nothing
has happened.
If they're still testing the site, then they shouldn't be asking for
money. Beta test first and then charge for the service, not
vice versa!!!

There are still plenty of free places to hang out, Yinepu/Tehuti.
The Bookmarks section here has links to PanHistoria, ATWAS...even
AncientWorlds, the red-headed step-child of the site formerly known
as AncientSites...among others. [Note: AW is free and in beta
testing until they deem it otherwise, which should supposedly happen
in Sept.]
Good luck in your search, and let us know if you need any help along
the way.

Well, that's a downer. I can't sign in with my AncientSites username
(I could swear I did once before, but everything was really in beta
mode), and it looks as if you have to pay now to be a member. I
couldn't even look at the terms of service to make sure; it asked me
to log in and then shuttled me back to the main page.
I guess an ancient community isn't in the cards for me! Better luck
to everyone else. :\

Hi Everyone!
Well, they did it!! AncientDomains opened it's doors
on Friday June 14, 2002. Here's the scoop:
The site is up and running. They are still making
revisions, but it is functioning. The requests for
them to open were so great that they couldn't wait any
longer -- something I know many of us have been
anxiously waiting for.
I've been there and it's beautiful!!
Our new home is ready and waiting and the Staff at
AncientDomains is waiting to welcome us home!
Here's the link:

Woohoo!! I'm happy dancing!!
See you all there!!

Mauvie's take:
It's graphics intensive, to be sure. And you must sign in to view
everything...no preview to see if you like it first [sorry, Cresta!
*S*].
Fantastic I will pass that along.

Greetings!
Would anyone be interested in playing in an old AS group called
Imperium? We're desperately in need of new members. Its set in 200 BC
during the height of the Republic. The game is quite complex, so
members should have some knowledge of Rome.
You can find it at www.communityzero.com/imperium. If you're
interested please contact our NEW Umpire, Gustavius, at
gcaelius@... .
PS: If you have slightly more radical/liberal inclinations, we
expecially need you! Currently, the conservatives have a veritable
stranglehold on the Senate and Assemblies.
PPS: By the way, I've just looked at AW recently, and I must say it
looks promising. Its a pity that they'll be charging an entrance fee
to all members, though.
Actually, www.ancientworlds.net is the new AS....by the same people
who gave us the original.

Hi Ilona!
Just read your message and I was wondering whether you took a peek to
Ancienttimes.net. Same AS-builders, same style, only another name.
Maybe this will help to take away the miss a bit.

The Jotisawankstain egroup had pretty much served its purpose as an
extended middle finger to the administration of AS. No one had posted
for months so I decided to delete it as a fitting closure on the
whole sordid AS busniness. It's interesting Jot doesn't share this
desire to end things as he's kept everyone's personal details (I'd
love to know the legality of that)so that he can spam them about his
"new" and "separate" project.

Same irritating buttsniffs who run Ancient Worlds, too. Whereas I've
taken a look at the AV site, I'd rather eat my own flesh than shell
out a single cent on any hare-brained scheme Jot and his unholy cabal
of money grubbing prick mates come up with. People seem to have short
memories when it comes to failed online communities. AV was supposed
to be the new, wonderful site that would solve all the problems of
AS.
Naturally it didn't and fell on its arse because of who was running
it. For those of you who were amused by the egroup I started in the
dying days of AS, thank you. Those of you who continue to suck the
black, scaly, satanic cock of Jot inc., I have nothing but undying
contempt for you and your ilk.

I've done my share of ghosting around too (while

see how established it becomes. I cannot be involved

Thank you Xeo for the URLs, and Luna for the

Awakening Azure is like rediscovering a cherished friend,
