Best Buy, one of the largest sellers of CDs, and Napster, once the
best-known name in digital music, offer digital subscription services,
but neither has mounted much of a challenge to Apple, which holds more
than 70 percent of the digital music market in the United States.

Napster and Best Buy are betting they have a better chance by combining
rather than competing with each other.

Best Buy said Monday it would pay $2.65 a share for Napster, nearly
double its closing price on Friday. Shares of Napster, which is based in
Los Angeles, rose $1.17, or 86 percent, to $2.53.

The original Napster helped set the digital music market in motion in
the late 1990s with a free music sharing service, which was shut down
after a lawsuit brought by the music industry. The brand name was bought
and resurrected as a legal digital subscription service, although it
never threatened iTunes.

Best Buy, based in Richfield, Minn., plans to use Napster to reach new
customers over an array of devices. The proposed acquisition includes
Napster's 700,000 subscribers, its Web-based customer service and
mobile capabilities.

1) Find the MP3 song/audio on a myspace.com page.
2) Double check that the TITLE appears on the page's PLAYLIST
3) Go up to the address bar and COPY the complete URL of the page
4) Navigate to:  http://www.file2hd.com
5) Take the URL Link copied from MySpace and paste it into the bar
6) Check the box that you AGREE TO THE TERMS OF SERVICE
7) Check the box for AUDIO files
8) Voila, all of the files on the requested myspace.com page appear
9) Download and save the files you want.

NOTE:  I used this same technique to grab videos from YouTube.  I
received warning that the file was not a known file type for WINDOWS
MEDIA PLAYER, but I chose "try anyways" and it worked like a charm.

This club has been inactive for quite awhile.  I know I haven't
posted in well over a year until I uploaded the IP Filter for
utorrent file a couple of days ago.

I just wanted to remind all of you running VISTA that PEERGUARDIAN is
not working with VISTA yet!  So be sure to use an alternate filtering
program before you download.

I wonder what Shawn Fanning thinks of the file sharing scene now.  I
can't believe how it was when this "CLUB" was founded in 1999.  We
didn't have resources to share information back then - there was no
Slyck.com or Zeropaid.com.

One thing we are about ... and continue to be about, is file sharing
information without hassle.  Case in point, the IP Filter program I
uploaded was available out there, but the copies that could be found
required joining a private tracker sight that was riddled with
BULLSH*T and when it came down to it, it was a trick to get you to
become enrolled in an automatic charge for access to porn sights -
despite the "instructions" that said it was only for a 3 day free
trial period (requiring your credit card information).

Stay safe ... don't succumb to this kind of b.s.

Using utorrent and the IPFilter you can find almost ANYTHING you
want; the built in search for torrent capabilities make the program
quick to use.

I am not and cannot endorse wholesale ripping off of artist's works,
but file sharing can be a great way to access the world. [I know
nothing about the porn file sharing scene, so I cannot, and never
will be able to comment about it.]

I am going to edit our files section, doing some deleting of obsolete
files.  If anyone has suggestions or requests, hey, post a message.

Greetings club members, hope the Easter Bunny was good to you,
I hadn't downloaded any files from Kazaa (Lite) since last summer, got
fairly good results with it then. But I tried it again recently and it
looked like a ghost town. So I tried a couple of other file sharing
applications, got the best results with MP3 Rocket and Shareaza. Well
actually, MP3 Rocket turned up a lot of files but too many of them
carried viruses so I gave up on it. But I've found several great files
with Shareaza so will continue to use it. Also, it's easy to operate -
unlike some of the bit-torrent apps, which I've never figured out how

OK...so I thought I had my bases covered by alternating between a
number of "spyware/adware/crapware detection" programs, namely:
Spywareblaster, Spysweeper, Ad-Aware, PestPatrol, Spybot S&D ... but
I ran across a program that detected almost a HUNDRED pieces of
malware that none of those programs detected, most of which were
contained in compressed archives.

It's called EWIDO and it rocks!  If you're d/l'ing from any P2P
network or bittorrent or mIRC, etc., you need to be EXTREMELY
cautious and I thought I had covered my bases.

There is a free d/l; you have to register (pay) after 14 days.  You
can find the program (+serialz) on bittorrent, too ... if that's your
cup of tea.

Also, I'm sweeping my system with another program, too.  I'll let you
know about that one when I've got a few more minutes.  It is a trojan
hunter program and it can even detect ADS in files.

Just out of curiousity ... I'd like to see how many of you get some
dramatic/surprising results after sweeping with EWIDO.

Let us know ... I'm VERY VERY curious to see how many other people
have the kind of results I did.

Got MXpie Patch v2.9 from mxpie.com.  It works fine.  And yes, w98se is
a clunker for WinMx, especially with a dial-up connection.  I don't DL
that much, but will be going high speed soon.

Some surprises, some unknowns [to this aging audiophile] ... some
peculiar choices ...

What takes me aback is that you can readily find any of these
full "records" [read that as CDs, LPs, Albums] for download (opposed
to the singles) ... and many appeared on the P2P scene BEFORE
commercial release. Do you find this "whole album" download scene as
a good thing ... or a good thing gone bad?

I don't find rare albums like this any more on the P2P networks. It
did come out on CD but it is probably long out of print. You can buy
the LP at eBay or Gemm.com. I buy records on eBay all the time that
were either never released on CD or the CD is much too expensive. I
only buy sealed or near mint records on eBay. I've been disappointed
when I've bought grades lower than this. You can buy computer software
to convert LPs to CDs. I haven't gotten around to doing this yet
because I need a new turntable.
