Alison- I usually use perlite for any cutting that I am going to place in a mix.
The hydroton I only use for rooting when I am going to keep that cutting in
semi-hydro for good. I just put the cutting in the SH setup and put the whole
thing in a baggie for extra humidity. They root up just as fast as those in
straight perlite, I find.
