Just posting my response to the posting, on the newsgroup so others
can see:
1) To connect to DB2 on the mainframe, you can either establish a
direct connection using the built in DB2 connect client or use your
own db2 connect gateway. In case you are using the built in client,
you may not be able to take advantage of sysplex etc that you get
with DB2 connect enterprise edition/connection concentrator. If you
choose to use your own DB2 connect gateway, you can just catalog a
connection to the gateway like you would catalog a DB2 luw
connection.

2) ERROR [42601] [IBM][DB2] SQL0104N - You see this error when you
connect to a DB2 v7 database. DB2 v7 is not supported in Toad v2.
Verified with the user that that was the problem.
