But what about the fact that this wire would not be coated. Would you not have
to put some sort of coating to prevent shorts?

Actually, that is a great idea Rene. A 30 meter roll of #12 awg magnet
wire as a bulk purchase is exactly what we should do - I am in, if you
want to do this. We could also buy a hockey-sock full of better spades
(gold plated instead of copper) and make up sets as required.
I am glad that you mention that twisting seems to help the hf, as that
is why I chose to do this right away.
Ken.

Ken,
I used the Anticables for while on my Abbys and tried them parallel
and twisted. Without twisting the loss of hf signal was very
noticable. Twisting brought back the hf extension due to the overall
much more consistent electrical properties. The anti-cables do many
things right - it is also very instructive to switch back to a regular
wire after a few months.
If you want to save on the Anticables, what about a group buy of 100ft
roll of the exact same magnet wire, it should cost about $50 for
100ft ;)
I still have a bare non-terminated one in the closet, that I haven't
been using for a while. I guess I should put some Cardas spades on and
try again.
