OK! Let's say C'est What at 6 PM - does
that work for everyone? We could move it later...
Just east of Front and Church - south
side of Front, downstairs. From Union Station, exit onto Front street,
turn right and keep walking past Yonge, just past Church, look to your
right, go downstairs. Sorry that should have been a numbered list.
For those who don't know what I look
like:
I look just like that, except without
the suit, and with work-from-home stubble. Also (usually) without the grin.
It's a big place - hopefully we can get a table for five (summing in my
head based on expressed interest).

Next Wednesday is good for me too.
My cousin is general manager at West 50 in Mississauga - boasting Canada's
largest selection of draught beer with over 100 taps. They also have very
nice food and a selection of wines and other beverages. If everyone is
interested, I can ask Jason to give us a room if one is available for the
19th. We had an STC social there earlier this year that was well received.
The restaurant is accessible by GO and Mississauga Transit located at Hurontario
and Burnhamthorpe just south of Square One.
But I am certainly open to other suggestions as well.
Cheers,

I'd love a get-together, as well.
If nobody volunteers to take on organization as a regular responsibility,
perhaps we can continue to have informal get-togethers and someone can
volunteer to coordinate the next get-together.

Hi all,
I've taken over as list moderator, and prompted by the last spam I've cleaned
out a few members and changed the list policy to restricted (so new members
have to be approved).
So, a couple of questions:
- is anyone interested in an informal get-together this month? Not a formal
presentation, but a roundtable discussion on where we are with our respective
projects, a! nd mebbe some beer.
- is anyone further interested in taking over the running of this group,
ie scheduling monthly meetings and coordinating presentations?
I'm up for organizing a one-time get-together, but I'm not up to running
the group on an ongoing basis.

Would it be too wimpy to propose a compromise like C'est What? It's walking
distance from Union station, which makes it accessible by GO and TTC.

I'd love a get-together, as well.
If nobody volunteers to take on organization as a regular responsibility,
perhaps we can continue to have informal get-togethers and someone can
volunteer to coordinate the next get-together.

Hi all,
I've taken over as list moderator, and prompted by the last spam I've
cleaned out a few members and changed the list policy to restricted (so new
members have to be approved).
So, a couple of questions:
- is anyone interested in an informal get-together this month? Not a formal
presentation, but a roundtable discussion on where we are with our
respective projects, a! nd mebbe some beer.
- is anyone further interested in taking over the running of this group, ie
scheduling monthly meetings and coordinating presentations?
I'm up for organizing a one-time get-together, but I'm not up to running
the group on an ongoing basis.

Cheers,

While I'm still interested in DITA, I have no immediate plans to use it,
so it's unlikely I'll be going to meetings in the near future. I wouldn't
mind an informal get togehter, but I'm probably going to be too busy to
attend this month or next.

Hi,
Are there any specializations for software engineering artefacts such
as use-cases? Not required to be exactly UML, but similar formats
would be useful.
Via wiki templates it is clear you can ensure the consistency
required, but I am looking for a way to ensure use case authors always
structure their use cases or other partial artefacts in a consistent,
re-usable way.

Juniper Networks has focused on an topic-based documentation and publishing approach for their product documentation for the past 5+ years. Come explore their journey as they began as a vision for "operation efficiency" by migrating from Frame Maker to xml, to a vision that offers a "business value proposition" with topics by offering services to customers to create dynamic content. This presentation will provide an opportunity to learn about our experiences and give you some valuable tips on how to leverage a topic-based approach.

The IBM DITA Wiki is an internal application created originally to demonstrate the feasibility of using native DITA in a collaborative authoring tool. It is positioned today as a key means for capturing the writings of Subject Matter Experts within the company in the reusable, easily repurposed DITA format.
The wiki is now a hosted service within IBM that enables contributors whose jobs are NOT technical writing to move their content development into the DITA standard. The collaboration aspect in particular has appealed to programming and education teams, and we are exploring the wiki's suitability for other domains as well, such as engineering and support professionals.
This presentation will provide some background on DITA and this project's history before delving into some of the experiences and successes of various user communities to date.
About the Speaker
Don Day is an advisory software engineer for IBM. For the past 15 years, he has designed and supported publishing tools for IBM's Information Development community. Don provides XML expertise for Information Design and Development in IBM's e-business Operating Systems Solutions area and for IBM Corporate User Technology. He has represented IBM on the W3C XSL Working Group and is presently IBM's alternate rep for the W3C CSS Working Group. Don holds a dual-major Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Journalism and a Master of Arts degree in Technical and Professional Communication (with a minor in Computer Science) from New Mexico State University.

IBM’s long standing commitment to our clients is to deliver the
right content to the right person at the right time and in the right
place. To that end, IBM has embarked on a multi-year development
initiative to create an end-to-end life cycle information management
system. The system, known internally as IDCMS Blue, is intended to
integrate and automate IBM Information Development processes and tools.
A significant element of IDCMS-Blue is information quality
management. Information quality management begins with information
architecture and extends through content authoring, editorial review,
defect management, customer collaboration and feedback, and a variety
of information usage statistics that when combined, form the IBM
quality management strategy based on structured authoring with DITA,
Arbortext Editor, Acrolinx IQ, IBM Task Modeler and the IBM Eclipse
Help System.

About the SF Bay Arbortext PTC/User Group:
We hold virtual meeting on the 4th Saturday of the month at 9 AM Pacific. We are soliciting suggestions for an alternate meeting time. Please email me separately with your preferences.
I am interested. There is lots of support on user lists, but sometimes I feel I would like to just talk about problems and ideas. For example:
- The basic problem of 'easily' rendering DITA is still not solved, as far as I can see.
- There are some fundamental usage issues that I still don't get.
- I still find organizing DITA information difficult.
I would like to discuss these sorts of things. Not just how others solve problems with available tools but also how they would rather do it if they could have better tools. I find discussions on lists clumsy. Meetings can be very encouraging.
I would also prefer to meet downtown Toronto.

I know the admin for the group is on leave at the moment, and it looks like we're building up some spam members.
So some pertinent questions: - is there still interest in having this group? or are people getting enough support and contact around DITA through other channels (like the main dita-user list)? - if there is still interest, what level? meetings with scheduled presenters, or more informal/social? - and do you have a location preference? eg downtown TO vs Markham?

Stay on top of things, check email from other accounts! Check it out.
If there are presenters, I can plan to come to town, so yes, I'd be interested in that. Or maybe we could have a panel - I'm willing to moderate. Downtown is fine with me as I stay near the subway when I come to town, but I can also do Markham.

I would be interested in meetings with presentations, depending on the
subject.
As for the location, the IBM Lab might as well be on the dark side of the
moon, as far as getting home by transit after 9:00 p.m. Downtown, or
somewhere on the subway system would be preferable.

I'm also interested in attending meetings in whatever form they take if they are downtown. The U of T campus was very convenient.

Hi. My name is Jennifer Glasser. I am a recruiter. I have a client who is
looking to hire an architect for their new CMS system. It is a very visible
position and an exciting project to create a new CMS system for their eLearning,
based on DITA. They will be using SharePoint, but experience with it is not
important.
Structure, architecture, DITA basics, governance are the important skills. You
will be leading and driving this project. I do have a complete job description.
The position is in Winnipeg, and they will pay all interview and relocation
expenses.
If you are interested in learning more, please email me directly at
