I am pretty new to this stuff too and i recently used trace graph and got the same problem it was not opening the trace file, but in my case i think it was because of the trace file size that was greater than 100 MB. 

Anyways i used 'awk' (http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/gawk.htm) awesome program for parsing the trace file.

It might help you give it a try. Good luck!

Hi,

I am currently a beginner, and try to simulate very known demo in ns2
documentation with AODV on ns version 2.33. The simulation goes as it
is written and ends successfully, no problems. nam trace file is ok
and I can see the simulation in nam. but I cant open the trace file
with trace graph. I am using matlab 2008b and it gives this error when
I try to open the trace file after a while.(if anyone wants my trace
file it is here:

As I suspect it always gives errors when there is a line with AODV.

Maximum number of lines (1000) to recognize trace format has been
processed!
wireless format detected
Hexadecimal nodes numbers detected
ERROR: Cannot read the file!
Error using ==> dataread
Trouble reading integer from file (row 3, field 7) ==> TR 0 AODV
48 1 1 -1 0 0x2\n
