That is "max" because of the chipset. You *can* put more than 64MB of SO-DIMMs
in it, but the TX chipset caches can only address that much memory directly,
anything higher than that gets slower, uncached access (which in reality only
slows accesses down in that part of memory by 10% overall, IIRC).
The bus speed of the SE is slow enough (66MHz) that practically any SO-DIMMs
you can buy today will work just fine- grab some cheap off eBay, should you
still want to increase your machine's speed.

Just found out that for 99% sure the HD of my Vibrant LS (Celeron
366) is corrupt and needs replacing. Are there any limitations I
should be aware of when replacing (still have the SystemSoft 2482-00
BIOS - no upgrade available): max hd size? Will any IBM Travelstar do
the job?
Any advise on where to get suitable RAM memory for this machine? Or
what to look out for?
This unit is not for sale anymore - think that by replacing the HD
I'll be able to salvage this one ...

hi
I have a transmonde vivante SE p2 233 ....
I have noticed hairline cracks around the hinges of my laptop on the
front page
though the hinges work perfectly well,I am bit concerned that if
those cracks increase or are not fixed it may lead to damange to the
notebook
again I understand that the noteboox is now old and bound to such
things ,but I was just wondering if any of you have done anything
specifice to fix this problem.
thank you,
sudeep
I cannot get my IRDA port to work, I am trying to connect to an IRDA
compatible cellular phone. I turn on Infared on the phone and then
have the computer search for infared devices, but it keeps saying
that it cannot locate any devices within range.
In the options tab I have selected all the check boxes. Searching
every 2 seconds and limiting speed to 9600 (i also tried without this
box checked - no change in result)
Any input would be appreciated
thanks
Go into the CMOS/BIOS settings on boot and disable the com port for the modem.
YOu cannot use both the modem and the IR port at the same time

G-Morning
I have a Vivante SE from Transmonde that a friend gave me and seems
to be working fine
However, I can find no information about it anywhere on the web, etc
Does anyone have any knowledge on this matter that would be helpful
Thanks
Bob
If it works be careful and don't break it. ;) You may
not be able to get parts for it.
That unit was manufactured by a company (ASE
Technologies) that is no longer in business as we knew
it. At the time I bought mine it was a top rated unit
and was a really good buy. I also received
exceptionally good service and tech support from the
manufacturer. Then one day they abruptly closed up
and announced that they would no longer be selling or
supporting the product.
You may not see a lot of chatter here anymore since by
now they are getting a bit old for a laptop. Mine is
about 4 years old now and nearing the end of its
useful life. I have no complaints as I feel that
after four years of daily use I have gotten my money's
worth.

4.3 years and counting. :D
No end in sight as long as it keeps working.
My only complaint is I wish I could fix my periodic
screen-flicker. Not crippling, but damn annoying
when it's in that mood. The Vivante's video wiring was
not too robust. Had to re-solder one broken video wire recently.

Mine is 4 years 2 months. Running windows xp. Only problem is hard disc of
only 4.1 GB. Yesterday I disassemled everything to solder a lose ac plug
contact. I assembled everything but the contact is still in a bad shape.I
have to disassemble it once more.

Hi everyone,
The 6 Gig Hitachi hard drive in my Vivante SE died recently. :( Can
anyone recommend a good replacement? I was considering just buying
the exact same model as the one that died, but I would rather get a
bigger and/or better one (faster, more reliable, etc.), if that's
possible. If you replaced the hard drive in your Transmonde laptop
within the last year or so and are happy with the new drive drive,
I'd appreciate it if you would contact me.
Thank-you.

pcalvert@...
does anyone know what happens when you plug the external floppy drive in
without shutting down first? (BIG MISTAKE) My computer wont even boot up
now.. just dead. Any suggestions other than to use it as a door stop?
Thanks
Susan
Hi all,
While I believe my Vivante SE is on its last legs (the battery runs
down its power level even when plugged in 24/7 to the AC cord, the
CMOS battery is starting to fail, the USB port doesn't work...), I'd
like to put off getting a replacement computer if it's possible to
find an internal CD-RW/CD-R drive that would fit in the Transmonde.
Does anyone know if the dock on the Vivante SE is a standard size? I
could then search for an inexpensive, perhaps used CD burner for my
laptop. Having the capability to back up my files and burn music CDs
with my Vivante would delay my purchase of a new PC for a while.
Thanks for the help!
Steve Mohundro
mohundro@...
The chance of finding an internal drive is slim, I
don't recall if Transmonde even ever offered one. The
only way may be an external drive.
If your USB is dead (and they never really worked
right in these things) then your best solution will be
a parallel port interface. IOW it plugs into the
printer port and the printer plugs into it and passes
through. Right now you can get a Backpack drive for
$149.00 at CDW.com. You may be able to find one for
less if you look around.

working. Also factory installed modem is not working. Before on-off
switch stopped working last month, the system was working excellent
as my prime computer.
Sell for $200.00, plus shipping and handling. Contact me if
interested.
I believe all this does is check to see if some values have changed in the
bios. It's not anti-virus software by any stretch.
