Also, look at the chart here:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77657

<http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77657>For example,
deleting a message in the Inbox archives it (moves it to All Mail) instead
of deleting it. As Michael said, make sure you don't have SnapperMail set to
trash deleted messages. To get "true" Gmail behavior, you have to move a
message to the Trash folder to delete it.

Also, see this page for some recommendations on using an IMAP client with
Gmail:

Oh, my.
What's a body to do???

Levi, yes, I physically played w/ the Droid for over 45 mins the other day. I
found I hardly needed to touch the screen and everything responded flawlessly.
When I physically tried the Pre in a Sprint store when it first came out, I
could barely make anything happen...the touchscreen was SO unresponsive! I gave
up after 2 mins!
Maybe I should stop into a Sprint store this weekend and try a Pre out again.
Not that I'll switch from VZ, but I suppose I should be fair and give the Pre a
go again.

Craig and all,
after playing with the Droid, I don't know if I can be patient enough to wait
for a new improved Pre on VZ! Agghhh!! What torment!!!!
I guess I have quite a lot of thinking to do til the 18th when I'll be eligible
for a new phone....or not!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Hopefully I'll be patient enough to get
the right phone for me!
Suzie

1) You can do it a couple of different ways. Set the folder that
you want to delete messages from in SnapperMail to not purge deleted
messages at all. You do that in the Messages menu while viewing
the particular folder. Set Purge Deleted to never.

Or you can set SnapperMail to only sync a limited amount of messages
in the folder. Then wait a few days or however long you need to so
the messages you want to delete are outside the sync window. Delete
them from SnapperMail and they won't be deleted from the server
because they're outside the sync window. This one would probably be
best for you.

2) More than likely you have the "Trash deleted IMAP messages" option
turned on. Basically what happens is the message gets copied to
the Trash or Deleted Items folder on the server, and the original
message is marked for deletion in the original folder. This is
normal for IMAP operation.

3) Messages inside of the SnapperMail sync window will be deleted
from the server. Messages outside of the sync window will be
untouched on the server.

The whole point of IMAP is it's constantly in sync. If you delete from
one location, it's deleted everywhere. If you mark something read at one
location, it's marked read everywhere. If you mark it unread...it's
unread. Etc., etc.

Hi folks.

Been using Snapper for a long time but just started doing IMAP with GMail. All
seems to be working well but I have a few questions that I'd really appreciate
help with:

1) How can I delete a message from Snapper without deleting it from GMail (I
don't want EVERYTHING on my Centro)?

2) When I delete a message from snapper (but before I've purged it), it looks
like it's immediately deleting from GMail too. Shouldn't GMail wait until I've
purged it?

3) If I purge a Snapper folder, what effect will that have on the corresponding
messages on GMail?

Okay I think that's enough for now. Thank you all very much for your help!!

I’ve been eyeing the Droid as well. I’m waiting for a contract to end with
AT&T before I can consider either a Pre or a Droid. If one of them comes to
AT&T, I’d definitely look at leaving my Centro behind.

If someone would jump out and make an emulator like Palm Classic for the Droid,
that could really make me fall in love.

Going from a 700p to a Droid, or Pre, or iPhone is like going from a 1967 VW
Beetle to a 2010 Porsche. There will be all sorts of things that are
shinier/bigger/better/faster but also unfamiliar. Blind Spot Warning System?
What’s that? Why is it beeping at me? Dymanic Stability Traction Control
that makes me turn INTO the skid? Huh?

The reality, though, is that ANY new platform, including WebOS, is going to
require more steps to do things than PalmOS. Limiting the number of steps
required to do things to the absolute minimum is not a priority, that I can
tell, of any current OS developer (except, perhaps, Microsoft for Windows 7).

Cheers,

Don

I am trying out the Droid too from a 700p. It's graphics are great but I have a
number of problems. I can't figure out how to cut and paste.

Transfering my 1400 contacts was a mess and I am still trying to sort things
out. The birthday and anneversary and notes are all gone.

It takes more steps to do everything.

Events / calendar is easily messed up because if you enter info and forget to
scroll down to the done button you loose everything.

Can you save an email on it?

Contact info are is more spread out.

Did I mention just about everything takes more time to do?

Still on the steep part of the learning curve.

It's a pain in the butt to use both. To change from syncing with Palm to
syncing with Outlook, it could be as simple as going to Start on your
Windows pc, then clicking Palm, Sync conduits, and Outlook. If your
(older) version of the Palm desktop doesn't offer this option, just
re-install the Palm desktop, and at the prompt, choose Sync with Outlook.

Sorry for mis-spelling. Let's try this again:

I currently sync with the Palm desktop, which I like. However due to
agency developments I may want to start syncing with Outlook. What do I do to
change the sync destination? Can I use both, go between them? Or what do I do
to move all my contacts and calendar into Outlook? Thank you for your help.

I've spent time with both Droids (the biggie and the Eris) and have
used a Pre since June and I think all the reviews have it right:
Android has a more customizable UI, but less polished overall and not
as enjoyable to use. Yes, it has more apps than webOS does, but
Palm's catalog has been online for only a few months (people seem to
forget that the Pre hasn't been out less than half a year now) and
it's growing pretty quickly for not even being fully open (plus
homebrew). The cameras on the Android devices suck. The screen on
the Droids are very nice...to me, that's the big selling point. But,
battery life takes a big hit because of it (it's hard work powering
all those pixels all the time). The keyboard, well, I don't like flat
keyboards, but that's a personal preference.

The Pixi is also coming out on Verizon within a few months, so I'd
really hold off until after the holidays if you can. Remember,
Android 2.0 is brand new...there are still a lot of bugs to be
squashed and waiting a few months, even if you ultimately end up w/ a
Droid, might be a wise move.

The phone are cheaper 99% of the time through me.

The reality is going from any of the new phones including the Palm Pre is so
dramatic that we did flips and cartwheels.

Just to follow up on my prior post regarding the Pre and Verizon, look here:

*Palm confirmed to Merrill Lynch that new 'tier 1' providers were coming
online in 2010 with the Pre, specifically mentioning Verizon Wireless.

I've never used the Droid, so I can't really compare it in that way to the
Pre. I do know that it has some beefier hardware and the operating system
is a little (but not THAT much) more mature than WebOS. I'm not sure why it
was so hard to use the Pre, I think it's actually incredibly easy and
intuitive. Also, I think it's definitely coming to VZN. We don't know
exactly when, but it's a pretty good bet it will be January. So can you
wait 6-8 weeks? Have you actually played with Droid or just seen videos?
If so, it's probably not a fair contest. Watch videos of both phones, play
with both and if droid is more intuitive, then go for it. Both multi-task
and are built around open-source technologies, and are fairly open as far as
third party development. They are probably more similar in these areas to
each other and the iPhone is different from both. WebOS and the Pre are
very new and still trying to get things right, as Android. Apple is
improving the iPhone, but because it's a little more mature, it's now more
in the refinement stage. Still it doesn't have some things like true
multitasking, and it has a much more closed environment to third-party
developers. Not sure what apps are available for droid that aren't on the
Pre, but remember that if you buy the Classic app, you will be able to run a
lot of old PalmOS apps "natively" on the Pre. Not all are quite compatible,
but a lot are...

My understanding is that the Pre coming out on Verizon is a step up from the
Sprint Pre. Not sure what that means. More memory? Removable memory?
Just not sure, but I've heard that rumor more than once.

So, you just might want to hold on a little longer.

I know this doesn’t help this thread but for others see if your
company gets any discounts from Amazon.com. I got my Pre with
leather belt case for free with my companies code. It was going
to expire 10/31 and they told us whoever wanted it and would use
it could.

We also get specials from Dell all the time and I got my 17"
laptop cheap that way too.
