I was afraid this was the case...

The only thing I've ever found that can help is to open the
Word doc in Star Office or Open Office.org, then "save as"
Word (or RTF) to create a new doc, and then put it through
Word again. It's not guaranteed to work, though - sometimes
they're just too corrupted.

gone to sleep for a while, like Sleeping Beauty. It will
