After our Saturday 27th March 2004 tech meeting, the TTCS is
going ahead with plans to develop a replacement for the GNUWIN CD, a CD
of open source software for Windows.
We welcome your assistance in doing this project. The first step is to
determine what software should go on the replacement CD.
We are already aware of the software on the GNUWIN II
((http://www.ttcsweb.org/articles/ttcsgnuwin/index.htm)
but we want to hear what other open source software for Windows is out
there and is of good quality to be included.
So, we are looking for software which runs under Windows 9x/Me/2000/XP
and is available under an open source license as defined by the Open
Source Initiative (OSI) (http://www.opensource.org) and in the following
categories :
- graphics (to view/edit/create graphical images)
- internet (desktop applications which uses the TCP/IP protocol
such as browsers, FTP clients, etc.
No P2P file sharing software will be considered)
- sound/video (to play/create/edit audio and video)
- productivity/business (including word processors, spreadsheets,
database programs and
Personal Information Managers, etc)
- server applications (these are applications which are usually
accessed via a web browser ;
examples are web servers, database servers)
- kids/educational (software aimed for children under 12 years)
- utilities, including desktop enhancement tools like
screensavers and replacement shells
- games
Please suggest software which meets this criteria along with the URL
for us to evaluate. The deadline for submissions is April 7th, after
which we'll look at ways of developing the replacement CD interface.
