TURMEL: Need Hat-Trick candidates for Prov. Party   Message List
Reply Message #1943 of 3681 |

JCT: Sorry I didn't get started sooner but I was caught in
transit during a move, had to attend an aunt's funeral in
northern Quebec, just everything working against me for a
while.

Parliament is in the process of doubling most penalties
for the cannabis industry. It's one of the first orders of
business now that the Ontario Court of Appeal is going to
rule that the prohibition has been dead for years. It's
taking a while for their decision because they're probably
trying to offer the government some kind of out without
having to apologize to the million lives their
unconstitutional law impeded or ruined. Parliament has a lot
of apologizing to do for an unlearned unscientific
prohibition. That's the angle of attack at the Federal
Parliament.

But then again, our champions in the federal political arena
are with the Marijuana Party of Canada and their never-
elected leader-for-life Marc-Boris St-Maurice. Imagine that
the only thing between us and our new chains are Marc
Emery's crew of juvenile delinquents. Game seems lost.
Prohibition will inevitably come back doubled.

Of course, believing I'm the toughest pro-marijuana advocate
in the world, I'm trying to find a handy way of getting
Parliament's ear before they do the dirty deed. Yet, 257 out
of 301 Members of Canada's Parliament are still subscribed
to the http://yahoogroups.com/group/medpot list that
receives all my medpot posts; 85%. Only 44/301, 15%, didn't
want my updates and unsubbed. Of course, I've run 25
election races against them so it makes sense I'd have
Parliament's ear. And I expect they know what is really
going on.

Most of the minor federal parties tend to pro-legalization,
it's mainly the Liberals and the Alliance who know they're
going to be in trouble over medpot. And I want to make sure
they know trouble's brewing on the political horizon if they
decide to deal with the danger of permitting marijuana to
remain legal without first dealing with the danger of
permitting alcohol to remain legal too. That's our best
defence now that we're legal too? Why the concern about one
legal substance and not the other? So to all intents and
purposes, there seems to be no way to influence the 150
Liberals who are going to vote to re-impose our prohibition
chains. And no new way to get their attention. Or is there?

PROVINCIAL POT PREMIER

The Provincial General Election. Of course, shooting for
Ontario Premier would let me chide Jean Chretien during the
campaign. Not only could a provincial premier make noise
about a prohibition that's hurting our society, but there's
lots more a provincial premier could do. I like the idea of
cutting funding to narc squads and reassigning them to
"ouch-crime" squads. No more chasing both parties to a
transaction means no more chasing without a complainant. The
game of Cops and Farmers is ending in Ontario.

And I have one other great reason for thinking that a
provincial premier has a right and a duty to make noise to
the Feds about cannabis. The Feds appoint our Superior Court
Judges. Doherty, Doudge and Simmons don't cut the mustard.
Ontario deserves better. These judges were shown the
statistics of 10 epileptics a day who could be saved and
have spent the past 40 days thinking about ending it. 40
extra dead epileptics because these low-tech justices can't
move fast enough in our high-tech world. If these justices
can't cope with grade-school math, they don't have the
qualifications to serve on a bench of a high-tech province.
Ontario deserves better than slow-to-think tribunals.

So I want to use my run for Ontario premier to tear at the
scientifically-inept justice shown so far in a question of
right to life so I can chide Chretien for not appointing us
a better class of arbiter for our high-tech society.

CRTC
And of course, if any electronic broadcast medium doesn't
give our new party or our new candidates equitable broadcast
free-time, then I'll drag them into Superior and Federal
Court every time. Go check the political press at my home
page on my early years and many are big cases against the
CRTC for not forcing broadcasters to treat me fairly. They
always got away with cheating me but never without paying
lawyers to thwart my objections.

I would announce that John "The Guerrilla Lawyer" would
prepare court forms for any party candidate to use at the
first sign of inequitable media disrespect. Keep in mind, I
ran against Ernie Eves in the byelection where he got in and
I didn't get to debate him there. I'd bet he has plans that
I won't get to debate him again. He can't run and hide
forever. This is my chance to catch him in debate again.

So there would be real fire-works for cannabis, gambling,
and government interest-free loans if I could pull off a
political party in the next 10 days in Ontario. So how hard
is it to fields an Ontario political party? To form a party,
we need to field 52 candidates, 1 more than half of the 103
ridings in Ontario so it can be said that if we sweep, we'd
be next government or get 10,000 signatures permitting the
party. Nominations close on Sep 18 for the Oct 2 elections 2
weeks later so 52 candidates is the goal within the next 10
days. If we fail to get our 52, we can all get signatures
during our campaigns.

The party program remains the same for all elections.
Financial liberty with LETS interest-free loans, and
personal liberties with no funding for cops involved in
gambling, drugs, sex. So it doesn't matter whether it's a
municipal, provincial, federal, international database, LETS
community currency will fund our programs. And personal
freedoms cover the rest.

People's other personal peeves may be discussed but at this
stage, it's not time to introduce a whole bunch of new
thrusts. We've got four great ones, plenty to create a happy
world. When they're in, then we can see what's left to be
corrected but I can't imagine too much needed to be
finished. I would point out most of my unmentioned programs
are interesting but not crucial though one computer program
that I'm particularly proud of having developed is the self-
insurance program at
http://www.cyberclass.net/turmel/abprogs.htm

HAT-TRICK
I have been a declared candidate in 3 elections at the same
time. A hat-trick. Municipal, provincial, federal. Three
times. Three hat-tricks. And now, anyone can shoot for a
hat-trick too. Ontario residents will be going to the polls
three times in the next few months. The Ontario general
election on Oct 2, the Ontario general municipal elections
in November and the Federal general election next spring.

So I'll be running for my 4th hat-trick whether we get the
52 to be a provincial party of not. We'll only need 12 for
the federal election. I'm looking for candidates who want to
go for the hat-trick too and declare to run in all three. My
Hat-Trick team, like me, will all get Three kicks at the can
in only months. Quite an adventure for some.

How to get into the game:
1) $200; sorry I can't front the cash like in the past.
2) 25 signatures of voters to permit you to speak;
3) an auditor's letter.

Getting the 25 signatures is very easy. Done in a morning
max. Getting the letter of agreement from an accountant to
audit your election return isn't that hard if you're going
to run a zero contributions and expenses campaign as I've
"always" done. All of my 20 provincial election campaigns
were "zero" finance campaigns. No contributions, no
expenses. I would just go to all the meetings and say my
piece but there was nothing for the account to track. My
accountant was happy to sign off on my returns for nothing.
He gets a minimum amount and seemed content with it.

And there may recently be a special form to fill out for no
expenses without even needing the accountant to sign off.
So, becoming a candidate isn't much of a chore.

Getting 52 on a team in 10 days will be harder though in
1993, I ended up with a 80 after a 3 week telephone
campaign. Now I have 10 days and internet communications
which may make things even easier.

Of course, I had to pick a party name.

I looked into the Libertarians; no good news.
I looked into the Freedom Party; no good news.
I could use Social Credit that's a weaker, though workable,
solution to poverty than UNILETS.
And I could use the Abolitionist Anti-Slavery label again
and I already have some pretty good "Abolitionist" paper
tokens for our new party to use, lots of old literature that
still applies. Always wanted interest-free social credits,
still do. But I think the choice is obvious. I can say
Jesus, Mohamed, Isaiah were Abolitionists and Socreds but I
can't say they were necessarily Libertarians and for the
Freedoms I want, eg: gambling, fooling-around, getting high.

I have already found several people willing to run with me
and will be hitting the phones tonight to old Abolitionist,
Socred, Canada Party, Canada Action Party, Green,
connections to see if anyone's willing to run again. Of
course, as the deadline nears and other smaller parties miss
their 52 shots chances in the deck, there may still be time
for unions with them before the final day. It's fortunate
that it's such a short process to register a candidate!

Of course, I won't give up my demand for two basic freedoms,
financial and personal. If some party doesn't like gambling,
safe sex, safe drugs and rock&roll, they can't be pulling
with our team; it's as simple as that. I can't compromise.
If you can live with what I need for my freedom and
security, we can work together. If you don't like and want
to deter me from doing what I do on my own without bothering
you, we'll be enemies. Black and White. No in between. Total
responsible freedom or persistent complaint.

Of course, it would be better to join forces with other
small parties but most have their own agendas and fixing
money or bad prohibitions isn't high on their priority. I've
been looking around for support in the other little parties
and don't think they're going to be of much help at this
point. Never know. No need to burn bridges.

TAX CREDITS
The tax credits available to the provincial parties are
incredible, double the federal. Where a contributor gets 75%
of the first $100 federal, 50% of the next amount, and 33%
of the last part, an Ontario contributor gets 75% of the
first $300 back. Corporations can donate up to $12,500 per
year which can be carried forward and can claim up to
$15,000 in "tax deductions" in one year at 20%. Use-it-or-
lose-it contributors, like tickets to cinemas and driving
ranges, can get $3000 off their provincial income tax
payable rather than just letting it go to waste.

PARTY LETS
Of course, we'll be starting a party LETS. Calling it the
Abolitionist Party again permits me to use the currency I
had printed up 10 years ago. And I like being associated
with the historical anti-slavery group even if they didn't
appreciate the slavery of debts and bills like we do.

The most important section of the LETS directory I'm looking
forward to is the Accommodations trading section. Almost
everyone can offer find a room for rent in their town for an
IOU for a room elsewhere around the world. It gets everyone
started.

So no matter what results from this provincial election
campaign, there's going to be a Abolitionist Party LETS
trading system when I'm through.

Keep in mind that everything can be done on the last day.
Someone can be convinced to run and three hours later, can
be in the race. We can also announce whatever we have done
on the last day. Could be a unique story. We'll see.

I started two new Abolitionist yahoogroups for Canada: ab-ca
and for Ontario: ab-on to keep the history of the action.
Both will get the same info for now.

If you want to do something to fight back before it's too
late, I think this is the only move we have left and I'm the
only spokesperson who can create the shock to the system to
stop it before it runs amok.
