THE Recorder can now shed light on the mystery UFOs seen in the sky last
week - they were sky lanterns!!

Reports flooded into our office of lots of orange, unidentified flying
objects after the Smalley family saw the mysterious lights floating over
their home in Acacia Avenue, Elm Park, at 10pm on Monday, August 29.

And it now seems likely that the mystery lights are not hi-tech visitors
  from outerspace but an ancient kind of party popper imported by Grant
Barry for his six-month-old business, Sky Lanterns.

The 26-year-old from Stapleford Abbotts, ships over the floating lanterns
  from Asia and has let them off at around 30 weddings and parties.

Green

He said: "I'm afraid to say these aren't little green men flying around.
It's most likely me letting off the lanterns in my garden or some of our
recent parties.

"The lanterns are like little hot air balloons. You set fire to the wick
and let them float up into the air. They're made from mulberry paper
wrapped around bamboo frames."

Grant came across the sky lanterns while travelling around Asia where they
are released during festivals.

They vary in size from titchy 2ft to a massive 8ft tall. Grant charges
£999 for a display of 100 sky lanterns.

He said: "I was at a festival on a beach in Indonesia when suddenly they
let off thousands of sky lanterns. It was breathtaking. I'd never seen
anything like them so decided to bring them to England."

Janet Smalley, 53, whose family were the first to contact the Recorder
about the sightings, said: "My son will be disappointed. I think he was
hoping they were real UFOs."

Keith Blackwell, 48, Gorseway, reported seeing mystery lights. He said: "I
saw an indistinct orange light to the south east at about 40 degrees high.
It was totally stationary in the sky."

His wife Kate said: "It certainly did not look like a lantern. It was
hovering in the sky then came shooting towards us. It then shot back to
its original position. It really spooked me."

Pat Fitzpatrick of Hornchurch added: "We were at a barbecue in Grenfell
Avenue on Bank Holiday Monday and late in the evening a large orange light
flew overhead, stopped for about 30 seconds and then went up higher and
higher until it disappeared."

Liz Gamby, 51, from Douglas Road, Hornchurch, also witnessed the light
display. She said: "I was looking up at the stars with my son Thomas, 23,
when we saw an orange light in the sky. It was moving along, getting
higher and higher. We were all stumped."

Baffled

Tony Rutter from Coltsfoot Path, Harold Hill, also saw them: "There were
about seven lights, a group of five and two singles. We were just as
baffled as the Smalley family."

Grant said that he had been releasing the lanterns at a wedding on August
27 and a pool party on August 28. He added that he often experiments with
the lanterns in his back garden, most Friday and Saturday nights - when
most of the sightings have been made.

John Murphy,48, of Channing Close, Hornchurch, saw them on August 6 at
around 10pm as he drove on the A12 between Colchester and Chelmsford and
said motorists were pulling over to look at them..

Stuart Kennedy from Hornchurch reported seeing more lights on Friday
September 9.

Lightning anomalies *below* thunderclouds

Static electricity was well known to ancient humans.  Paleolithic people
certainly noticed sparks when they stroked their animal pelts.  But it
wasn't until Ben Franklin's kite experiment that lightning was definitely
shown to be skin to static electricity.

It was thus easy after Ben's kite flight to explain lightning as simply
big sparks triggered when electrical charge was separated within
thunderclouds and a strong electric field was set up between cloud
and earth.

Now, though, this seems a simplistic view of what really happens during
a lightning strike.  Scientific instruments have recorded at least four
unanticipated phenomena associated with lightning strikes that change
the entire theoretical picture.  Lightning isn't what we thought it was.

(1) The lightning "leaders" that descend from thunderclouds are
"stepped" and jagged.  They are composed of many short, straight
segments arranged in a crooked course.  Only when this jagged
trail reaches the ground does the familiar luminous stroke of
lightning shoot along the leaders' stepped and highly ionized path.
Questions: Why the multisegmented path, and how is it created?

(2) Measurements of electric fields within thunderclouds rarely
exceed 200,000 volts/meter---much too small to ionize the air
and lead to electrical discharges.  Apparently, thunderstorm
circulation by itself cannot initiate lightning.

(3) Remarkably, X-ray flashes occur during thunderstorms.  The
conventional thunderstorm models do not produce X-rays.

(4) Ditto for gamma-ray flashes.  What is their source?

Given the above facts, current thinking has turned to the cosmic rays
that perpetually bombard the planet.  These energetic particles are
thought to smash into air molecules triggering avalanches of high-speed
"run-away" electrons plus a burst of gamma rays.  These run-away
electrons create the first stepped leader.  As the first leader's
run-away electrons accumulate at the leader's tip, they create an
intense electric field that generates still another stepped leader
that strikes off in a slightly different direction.  An X-ray flash
is emitted as the new leader is formed.  More stepped leaders
approach the earth leaving behind an ionized trail.  A full-fledged
lightning flash then occurs.

The main lightning bolt may be thought of as a spark, but it has an
extraterrestrial trigger.  Old Ben Franklin was oblivious to cosmic
rays, even though he was pierced through by them all the time.

Item #2:
Lightning anomalies *above* thunderclouds

We have already cataloged a veritable zoo of sprites, elves, blue
starters and other luminous phenomena that occur above thunderclouds.
(See GLL1 in *Remarkable Luminous Phenomena*.)  The zoo many [sic]
be new to mainstream science, but its denizens have been reported in
SF for decades.

Now, we make space for something more scary but perhaps in the end
only illusory: *mega*lightning.

The observational basis for the claim of megalightning's existence is
found in a photograph of ill-fated *Columbia*'s reentry trail taken
by an amateur astronomer in San Francisco.  (See illustration.)
[CAPTION: Corkscrew trail of "something" intersecting the reentry

In this photograph one sees a corkscrew trail of "something"
intercepting the *Columbia*'s reentry trajectory at an altitude
of about 70 kilometers.  This is well above normal terrestrial
lightning but in the region where sprites occur.  Could
megalightning be another unexpected electrical phenomenon
of the outer fringes of the earth's atmosphere?  Could the
space shuttle *Columbia* have been downed by megalightning?

Government denials and conspiracy theories are rife on the internet.

Comment.  The luminous trail seemingly aimed at *Columbia* could also
be that of a heat-seeking missile!  But who could launch such a device
at 70 kilometers?

The downing of TWA 800 also comes to the fore here.  In that tragedy,
too, a photo shows a streak of light intersecting the aircraft's path.

A Father's Experience In The Nevada Desert

Date:  Late 40s or early 50s

My father told me an experience he had in the Nevada desert, late 40s or early
50s.  I was always with my Dad, and he shared this story with me. At the time I
must have been maybe 7 years old, so this must have been around 1953. I hate to
admit that because, that tells you how old I am. He started by telling me about
being in the Nevada desert. He was in show business then and was always
traveling. He began, I believe by him saying ,I saw 4 UFOs. What's crazy, I
never new what the heck UFOs were, until he told me this story. They came from
four different directions, very fast and came together in a circle, stopped and
started to vibrate. A rainbow of colors began to come out of the bottoms of each
UFO. And as fast as they appeared, they, were gone. Flew off in different
directions and disappeared. Thanks, talk to you soon.

Lake Havasu, Arizona Fire Ball Type Object Comes To A Complete Stop

HBCC UFO Research Note: I took a telephone call at approx: 1:00 a.m., it was a
fellow who now resides in California, but had a interesting experience with a
number of other folks at Lake Havasu, Arizona. They all watched a fireball type
of object at a high altitude shoot across the sky, then came to a complete stop.
It sat briefly and than shoot straight up and back into space.

Bowie, Texas Meteor

Message: I remember back about when the Yukon meteor hit, I was at the football
stadium in Bowie, Texas. I was looking southward, from the top seat of the
statium, and saw a giant meteor the size described for the Yukon Meteor shooting
through the sky. I told the people sitting around me to look at what I saw. It
was a long way away from the stadium when I first saw it. I flew up next to the
stadium and went by going north. It was on a horizontal path to the Earth's
surface. It had a giant smoke trail. It was travelling at an enormous rate of
speed. I saw it from as far back as it came to the point that it dissappeared on
the horizon headed north. It has to be one of the most amazing things I have
ever seen.

I don't remember the date. The band was on the field playing. I think they were
having a band concert. I will search through my computer.

Outside The City Of Bergen, Norway Was Contact Being Made ?

Date:  September/ October 94/95

Hi Brian, Didn't catch any crop circles but got to see some and walk in some! I
also got to feel the energy that were present in one of the crop circles. What I
am about to tell is the episode with the seven objects I mention them in last
message.

This was in September/ October 94/95. The dates are fading over the years but
the experience, I will never ever forget. I had a visit from a local radio
station some days later maybe they can help me find the right year and date!

Well back to the incident! This one happen in Norway outside the city of Bergen.
It was late at night around 1300 a.m. when I went outside in the garden
downstairs. It was a clear and bright night sky and as usual I gazed to the
stars looking for whatever might turn up.

Then from the south, seven bright white lights came flying. They were flying
behind each other. Seven planes at this time! I thought to myself. Also here
there were no other lights that could tell me if these were ordinary planes,
there were no sound either. Suddenly the last one in line took a big turn out in
the sky at a very high speed and went back in line with the rest. At this time I
was jumping around in the garden. I called for my wife and at the same time I
sent out a thought: Please, if this is what I think it is please give me a sign!
At the same time there came a flash from the object in front. I sent out the
same thought again and it happen again. At this time my wife had came out and
saw the objects. My god I was communicating with ET! Or so it seemed!

Later I was interviewed by a local radio station and had a call from a local
newspaper that would like to do something because there were several witnesses
further north that had also seen these objects. But nothing happen! Typical the
media!

What I am about to tell now is up to you to decide to believe or not! At the
time of this incident me and my wife where in contact with ET! Plain and simple!
And when I asked "them" about this incident the flashing of light and so on,  I
was told that never question the power of thought! I also see now that there are
some things with both of the stories that are similar.
I have other stories to tell enough for a book I guess!

Little Rock, Arkansas Amazing Black Triangle Sighting

Date:  2001

Essentially, Two vehicles came swooping in toward the nearby landing-strip of
the Little Rock Airport, just after twilight. About 6 minutes earlier I had
noticed another plane leaving the same airspace as it took off S-W towards
Dallas, at first making this appear to be a sensible, well choreographed Normal
flight-pattern.

Both were descending at an unacceptably high rate of speed, not unlike Flt.175,
as it approached the WTC South Tower, just a few months prior. I instantly
slowed from my usual 58mph freeway speed, to about 48mph, just slow enough to
capture the active motion against a relatively stable foreground. It suddenly
dawned on me that these aircraft were in hot
pursuit! Having a high degree of spatial recognition, I could see that I was
approximating a situation where I might be entering a point of impact, so I
slowed my vehicle as much as I could practically do without serious risk to
other traffic. Even 39mph suddenly felt like a suicide rate, so I dropped it
down to second and got into the creeper-lane. That's when it all became clear
that I was observing a real UFO.

The vehicles leveled-off at an altitude of just about 1,000ft. and continued at
me for about 1 mile. Their additional descent went unnoticed until the first
craft slowed to a nearly parked position. Behind him, was a full battle-ready
Huey helicopter which also came to a sudden halt, much as though he was scared
of getting more than an inch closer.

Very gently, the Black Triangle proceeded to move forward and I rolled to a
position just beyond it's wingspan. At that point, it was about 1 1/2 blocks to
my Left, so I could see the entire thing through my driver's side window, but as
it moved, it was to leave the entire bird visible through, and virtually filling
my Jeep's entire windshield.

I looked intensely at every portion of that machine, knowing it could not be
faithfully photographed at night. Lucky for me all of it's lights were
operational and I believe that I observed all of the fundamental attributes of
their behavior in this 'idle' mode. My feeling was both one of terror and
relief. My biggest fear was that the helicopter would fire upon it and I would
be caught in the fireball below!

To my hard left, another troop-type helicopter appeared. I'll discuss that one
later.

I knew that I needed a comparable reference to describe the UFO's actual scale
which still eludes me somewhat. Altitudes of 900' would seem more reasonable
than say, 500ft., but that was probably it's very lowest hovering height. In
order to lock my eyes on the thing throughout the entire progression, I
eventually sat in the window with my head above the car itself.

Eastern Shire of Berwickshire An Intense Bright UFO Directly Above A Electricity
Pylon

Date:  August 8, 2005
Time:  11.00-11.30 p.m.

We live in the Scottish Borders in the Eastern Shire of Berwickshire. 
Berwickshire is located on the east coast -To the North is the Lammermuir Hills
and to the South is the Cheviot Hills.  The night of our experience was the
7/08/05 as we were driving at the edge of the Lammermuirs, heading in the
general direction of North, on the A6112 towards the small village of Preston,
which lies 3-4 miles of the county town Duns.  The time was around 11.00-11.30pm
when a strong light was seen through the trees, flickering at first, then  a
constant illumination, so intense that I immediately squinted my eyes. We turned
the next corner and the light was not as intense and we could both see clearly a
UFO sitting directly above what looked like an electricity pylon.

We stopped the car to observe this object, and just as we sighted the craft, it
moved off, towards us.  Fumbling with the camera to get a picture as best I
could, my husband took time to observe the UFO.  The first impression was how
well sculpted it was, but while it came closer we listened for any noise, there
was none but a 'Dull drone'  as it flew overhead.  It reared off to the left and
kept a steady pace, but it was moving real slow. (I don't know how it stayed in
the sky)  Just then a motor vehicle appeared behind us and we moved off ,pulling
in seconds later.  We got out the car just to see the UFO disappearing over the
tree-line, in a Southerly direction.

The driver of the other vehicle did not stop, I think he was in shock!  Anyway
after that we decided to head off back the way we had come, to the highest
point, The Hardens Hills, 345 metres above sea level.  After a few moments an
object showing several lights (low on the horizon, sitting above tree height,
travelling 180 degrees slipped over the tree-line)  Before it disappeared we had
observed the UFO with 30x50 zoom binoculars, the sky was twilight, slightly
darker from the previous encounter.  The only thing we observed this time was 3
white lights.

After several minutes of the craft disappearing , we headed back to the first
location, observing the UFO route, but when we got back again (in no time at
all) the same 3 light object appeared skulking along the tree-line disappearing
behind the strange cloud formation (the sky was almost clear) only to see it
slipping over the tree-line.  We kept looking up noticing lights, which stood
out from the stars, being brighter than the rest.  They appeared to be moving in
short, sharp movements.  We observed them through the binoculars.  Just then
what looked like a huge bolt of 'lightening hit the ground from the sky, a lot
thicker than normal lightening.  With that, we drove home, with stiff necks! (we
live about 10-15 miles away)  The days that followed we suffered from eye
trauma, tiredness and generally felt unwell .

I have enclosed  the photo which we took.  We have highlighted it, and in the
color picture we can definitely see that there is a craft there..

Chatsworth, California A Blood Red Streak Across The Sky

Date:  August 11, 2005
Time:  1:20 a.m.

Hi Brian, I wrote to you the other day regarding the Kecksburgh sighting. I was
the person who lived in Pittsburgh and saw the sighting.

I wanted to tell you something I saw during the Perseid meteor shower on August
11, 2005. I went outside with a friend to view the shower, but it was only 10:00
p.m. The shower was not to start until 1:20 a.m. I was looking north from my
back yard, when I saw a very bright, blood red streak. It was to low in the sky
to be a meteor, and the streak it made, it's hard for me to explain. But at arms
length, it would have been only about four inches long. It was only about a
second in duration. I just happened to be looking in the right place at that
second. All the other meteors I saw that night were your typical whitish, fiery
tailed, meteors. Might not be anything, but it was unique in itself.

Additional Information:

Thank you for your prompt response to both. On the night of 8/11/05, I went out
in my  backyard with a friend, she wanted to have a cigarette. I don't smoke,
but went out to talk to her about the Perseid meteor shower that was to happen
at 1:30 a.m. The time was only 10:00 p.m. when we went out. I sat on top of my
picnic table facing north, and what I saw was no meteor. I'll try to explain
what I saw. In the far distance I viewed a very blood red streak that lasted for
only a second. I have know idea how far it was, but it traveled so fast it only
left a streak about 4 inches long. It had no fiery tail behind it. It was a very
thin straight line that reminded me of a laser beam. You wanted to know my
location I live in Chatsworth, Ca. Oh by the way, it was traveling from east to
west. My daughter has also seen UFOs, my father told me his account in the 50s,
and I have a very good friend who had a couple of strange experiences with UFOs.

Milton, U.K. Unusual Shaped Craft Witnessed

Date:  September 2, 2005
Time:  About 3:00 to 3:30 p.m.

Hi Brian

On the Friday 2nd Sept. About 3-30pm my next door neighbor Dennis came round and
said did I believe in UFO's. I said I have seen them before, he said there's one
up there looking north, I tried to find it and realized I had my reading glasses
on, I had to get my distance glasses, in the mean time this thing was still
traveling upwards I eventually saw it and said the length of it, I tried to look
with binoculars, but could not keep them steady, I went to get my telescope but
could not get into view to get a focus on it. By eye I could tell it was still
going up, it was a clear blue sky not a cloud in sight I thought until this
thing disappeared through a very thin cloud very high up, it was like watching
go through fog.

Dennis had seen it much lower and asked him for a description of it so I did a
drawing of it shown below, I said how did you spot it he said there was a A146
flying over to land at Bristol airport when he spotted this UFO above it. Also I
found out my neighbors across the road had also spotted it, so 4 of us had seen
it. when I showed him the drawing he said that's it, but we all agreed that it
was difficult to tell what size it was as we did not know how far it was away,
at the time a plastic bag was being blown across the sky, and this thing did not
seem be affect by it, but it was facing into the wind which was from the west,
we all agreed that it seemed to be under control.

I looked at this from a distance and the proportions look right, the sun shone
along top which showed it was cylinder in shape, grey with no windows or
markings.

Surprise, Arizona Lights Above The Horizon

Date:  September 5, 2005 ?
Time:  9:00 p.m.

Hi Brian,
The attached were taken by my son who lives in Surprise Az., (west valley),
approx. ten days ago. The UFO's are the lights above the horizon not those near
the ground. We were on the phone at 12 am +/-  eastern daylight time, 9 pm in
AZ.. He and his fiancée were watching the lights for twenty minutes or so. There
was no sound for much of that time until five fighter jets from Luke flew over
his house. Naturally, as soon as he saw the jets the lights disappeared. As you
can see the sky was clear, but given the fact that it was dark he was unable to
determine the height. He has seen the same type of lights on a number of
occasions and this is the first time he took photos. You can publish the

Canadian Forces Base Comox, B.C. Unknown Object Observed

UFO or Orb over Canadian Forces Base Comox
September 11/2005

At approximately 5:30 PM, I was observing some cloud manipulations in the sky
over the military base. My eyes wandered over to a hole which was forming in a
set of clouds and noticed a small white-ish object, or the light made it appear
white. It certainly looked brighter than the surrounding clouds which themselves
were rippled with electromagnetic waves.

At first I figured it was a plane, but it wasn't long before I realized it was
spherical in nature and had no wings. It came right out of a hole in the cloud.
I quickly grabbed my camera which I had nearby and tried to bring the object
into my lens field..but I couldn't see it through the lens. So I pointed the
camera in the direction of where I had seen the object and snapped a photo
anyway, hoping to catch it.

I then lowered the camera back down and looked for the object with the naked eye
but it was no longer visible to me. This entire event unfolded in the span of
about 15 seconds. The object had vanished although I didn't see it leave.

I uploaded the photo and spent about a half hour or so attempting to find the
object on my computer. I was almost ready to give up and toss the photo into the
recycle bin. It's a good thing I didn't because I managed to spot the orb. It
was so far away it appeared as a tiny dot in the photo.

I reversed the image and tried solarizing it. The object was easier to make out
after that but still not the best so I saturated the contrast a bit and zoomed
in...so it isn't very clear, yet you can still make out an unmistakable object.
I could see that the object was on the earth-side of the clouds, and would have
to be behind the clouds to be a star, moon, satellite, or a planet of any kind.

This seems to me, a lot like the one which was caught on video tape in Port
Alberni and ran on the news a few weeks ago just down island from me. It has
been suggested that these UFO's or Orbs appear in areas where the woodpecker or
HARRP grid are being tuned-up. Apparently these objects sometimes appear at
locations of grid intersect. Interestingly, there was a lot of electroscalar
magnetic activity going on overhead at the time.

The Comox Valley area is seeing a literal epidemic of chemtrail spraying,
magnetic waves and odd shaped clouds. Sometimes I can sit and watch them fiddle
and move the clouds around before my very eyes.

Additional Information:

The object came out of a hole in the clouds, from what appeared to be the east,
and it moved toward the west a short distance before slightly slowing down and
turning a little bit to the left (northerly). From my vantage point, the object
decided to go toward the cloud it was next to. In other words, as soon as it
came out of the hole, it went north a bit. That's when
I scrambled for my camera which was nearby. I had to stop looking at the object
to get the camera. What happened in those few seconds, I don't know for sure,
but judging from where it first came out of the hole to where it was located
after viewing the image on the computer, it had not gone far during the time I
was getting the camera and positioning it to get the shot.

I would say it had become almost stationary for a few seconds. The movement
seemed fairly straight and normal at first. The object was moving forward,
towards my direction, but then slowed and I reiterate that it seemed to saunter
a little bit northerly. It wasn't the movement of a plane at all. It was the
sudden turn which got my attention in the first place. Something clicked in my
mind and I knew it was not a plane.

I couldn't see it when I tried to find it with the camera. So I just pointed the
camera in the direction I had seen it and snapped a photo in hopes of
inadvertently catching the image. The object appeared almost directly over the
military runway which is near the oceans' edge and there was no obvious sound.
There were no other aircraft flying in the area that I could hear. I am a very
well-tuned aircraft observer due to having lived near the base for 18 years. I
can identify planes and jets just by their sound, without even seeing them.
There was no sound coming from this object. No sound!

I do not recall there having been much wind, but I could be wrong about that. I
don't think it could have been very windy, because I usually take notice of
that.

Residual sunlight may have been reflecting off the front of the object because
it was late in the afternoon and the sun would have been west of the object at
the time. It did appear to have a brightness about it that stood out from the
lightness of the clouds. It contrasted very clearly with the naked eye, but the
actual photo doesn't do it justice. I didn't see any flashing at all.

I can say that the object did take on an increased brightness after it made its
full appearance. It was as if someone had shone some sunlight at it. It could
have been the sun shining on it or the increased brightness could also have come
from the object itself. I simply can't be sure about that. I can't even be sure
if the sun was behind the mountains or not as it would be behind my house and
beyond the trees which are all around me. It was broad daylight though.

I don't know of any other witnesses. This is not to say there aren't any others
who saw it. There could be. My daughter was just inside the house when it
happened. It happened and was over so fast that I was too wrapped up in getting
the photo for fear of missing it to have been able to summon my daughter to
witness it with me. If I would have taken those precious seconds out to summon
her, I would have missed getting the photo. It was gone within seconds. I just
knew I had to get a photo. My daughter helped me search the image for the object
and was surprised to see it was real.

I would say that the time that lapsed from the moment I saw it come out of the
hole in the clouds and the time I turned around to get my camera on the chair
was about ten seconds. It took another 10 seconds (maybe) to search again for it
so I could take a photo. I immediately realized I couldn't see it and was
wasting time looking for it because it was so hard to see in the first place.
Rather than waste precious time looking for it again, I decided to just hold the
camera up, pointing in the direction I had seen it, and snap the photo. I wasn't
hopeful that I had captured anything.

After I snapped the photo I tried to search for it and couldn't find the object
again. It was either inside the cloud or gone. I don't know which. There was no
activity in the way of planes before or after I saw the object. In fact, it was
a relatively slow day for planes.

I saw another objects in the picture to the right of the main object. You can
see it if you really strain to look at the original shot. In fact, it almost
looks as if there are multiple smaller similarly shaped objects that seem to
form an arc shape to the upper right, not far from the main object.


You really have to play with the image to see them. I hope you can see the
others in there. I focus on the main one because it was the only thing I saw
with my eye. The other smaller ones only show up in the photo and were not
readily obvious to me when I was seeing the primary object.

Jericho Beach Park, Vancouver BC Disc-Shaped Object


Date: September 14, 2005
Time: 9:49 p.m.

A tube of light reveals remarkable details of color on close-up examination. The
camera's macro optics measure the distance of the event and position it in the
same focal range as the grass below. If it were closer to the lens the grass
would be completely blurred out of focus. Further away and the shrubs in the
background would obscure the passage of light. The signal is robust and
contiguous, registering in front of the bushes about 4-5 feet above the ground.
A multi-spectrum contrail 6 inches in length extruding from a disc-shaped object
travelling at 20 mph (the image was recorded in 1/60 second).

Sechelt, British Columbia Strange Lights

Date:  September 15, 2005
Time:  2:30 a.m.

Thursday, the 15th of September, at approximately 2:30 am, from the parking lot
at the North side of the hospital in Sechelt, I viewed a light that looked
rather strange in the night sky. I called a nurse out to look at it and she
described it exactly like I saw it.

The total time the object was observed in the same location was approximately 35
minutes before clouds moved in to obscure it. Two of us witnessed the object, or
whatever. The lights strobed between red, yellow, white, green and on rare
moments, blue. The lights were never in the same "rotation" which suggests
either communication like semaphore or spinning
on the object.

Elevation appeared to be very high, making the object very large. From the
hospital North parking lot the object was at +-15 degrees in the North East. It
appeared to be far enough away to be at a very high elevation, making it
exceptionally large to be viewed from my location.

Like I said, two of us watched this light, I until clouds obscured it. Total
time is approximately 35 minutes. The object or whatever it was stayed in the
same location all this time. At times, I thought I saw smaller objects coming
into it and also leaving it at great speed but could not confirm this. Possibly,
I just wanted to think that. I don't know. The small objects were so fast I
could have imagined them.

There was no way I could see the object in the viewfinder of my camera, even
when I moved out of he parking lot lights, so I snapped three pictures in the
general direction. One photo caught it, just barely. Seer what you think. It's
off to the far right, the first is the original, the second is a gamma enhanced
and the third is a close-up of the enhanced.

Not sure what to make of this. It did not move, the lights "strobed" and it
looked big and far away. Definitely not a star as the nurse vouched that it was
elongated and looked like a large object perpendicular to the ground, and she
saw all the colours of light except the blue.

Original looks very dark as I could not see the object through the viewfinder. I
aimed in the approximate direction to get he one photo I got, and thankful for
it.

Hello Frits/List,

I can confirm that the light seen on Hornchurch, Essex on September 12
was due to the lanterns.

After initially rejecting the claim in the Romford Recorder that the
light(s) seen on August 29th in Romford were sky lanterns, the witness to
the Hornchurch sighting above now agrees that this is what he saw.

The One Million Dollar Challenge and Those Who Try for It James Randi describes
some of the difficult, innocent, and impossible people who apply to be tested
for his foundation's $1 million challenge for evidence of paranormal powers.









I am going to describe difficult, impossible, and unknowing contestants who've
applied for the James Randi Educational Foundation's million-dollar prize.

I can say this from the very beginning: give me a faker, give me someone who
appears before me and is lying, who is attempting to fool me, to deceive me, or
to deceive anyone else, the media, or other scientists.


Please don't give me the innocent who really believe they have the powers.

They're the difficult ones to handle; a true believer is a terrible enemy, but
the fakers I can handle.

Those people I can come out against, I can confront them, I can show what they
are doing, and get rid of 'em.


Now, of the people who apply for the million-dollar challenge of the James Randi
Educational Foundation, and I'm sure you all go to my Web site regularly, right?

It's www.randi.org.

All right.

You will find, reading over the archives on that Web site, that about 80 percent
or more of the people who apply are dowsers, or diviners.

That is, people who, with a forked stick or with a pendulum or with some sort of
wire stretched out in front of them, believe that they can find water, gold,
oil, lost jewelry, children, anything.


One man even told us that he had a particular, specific ability.

This dowser lived in Kentucky, and said that he had the ability to find lost
hunting dogs; that was the only thing he could find.

He was very sensitive to that, and if you were able to give him a little hair
from the hunting dog, he would put it on the end of his dowsing stick and it
would lead him directly to the dog.


Sometimes there was an error.

Sometimes it would lead him to another hunting dog, which was very similar
because the DNA would be very similar, you see? BR>
He actually told me that he was tuning in on the DNA, and then he said, "Oh,
there's one other thing that I can find, too."


We said, "What is that?"


He said, "I can find bullets, because I tune in on the DNA of bullets."


Now, I didn't know that bullets reproduce that way. Perhaps you take two 38
caliber bullets, leave them alone for a while, and they produce 22 caliber
bullets?

I don't know. These people are so exceedingly naive.

These are the hard people to handle.

Someone who has a trick, I can get 'em right away.


Now, handling the subject of difficult cases that we have to investigate, I hate
to tell you this, but the application form for the James Randi Educational
Foundation prize has twelve, I think now thirteen, rules.

Very simple.

They're not difficult to understand.

The most important one of the rules is that you have to say what you can do,
under what circumstances, with what accuracy.

Ho could anything be simpler?


Well, a good 80 percent of the people who apply can't make that statement.

Not only that, they're told on the application form that they must write two
paragraphs, no more, describing what their ability is.


People can write very long paragraphs.

Some of those paragraphs run three pages.

We had one just recently from a gentleman who had some strange claim, I don't
remember, he did 18 pages, filled on both sides, in handwriting.

I think his ancestry must have been Turkish or something, he was still using, I
think, the Turkish alphabet.

It was almost impossible to understand what he was writing about.

We had to get him down to two paragraphs, and that's not easy.


Completing the form is the most difficult thing that these people have to do.

After that, it's pretty easy.

That doesn't seem logical.

You would think at this very moment there should be people knocking on the door
tring to get my attention so they could try for the million-dollar prize.

I don't hear anybody knocking, do you?

No.



Now, another thing that is very, very difficult to investigate is medical
claims.

Our colleagues in India, through B Premanand there, a most estimable gentleman,
good friend of mine, the people in India have a little more freedom to
investigate these things.

There is a wonderful documentary made by the BBC some years ago in which they
followed Mr Premanand around and they had to demonstrate that the so-called "god
men" of India could not heal as they claimed they could heal.

They actually had a snake bite a dog.

Now, that's not acceptable in our society, particularly not in England, where
animals are more important than human beings, believe me.

They had the snake bite the dog, and then the guru, the "god man," tried to save
the dog.

Not to your great surprise, I will tell you that the dog died.


Now, theguru, the "god man," was most amazed at this.

"Oh, it always worked before," he said.

Well, we offered to do another test with him.

He didn't want to do that, and we haven't seen him since.

See, you can get away with that sort of thing in some countries, but certainly
not in England, not in the United States, and, I suspect, certainly not in
Italy.


Now, every now and then the difficult cases are ridden, like a horse, by some
scientist, some academic who has adopted this as his cause celebre, something
that he's going to promote, he just knows the claim must be true.


Just recently I was in Wurzburg, in Germany, where we ran some tests of people
who were applying for the prize.

Again, so that the tension won't be too much for you, they all failed and the
million dollars is still quite safe.

There was a gentleman there who I won't name so that he won't be embarrassed.

This is a scientist with a German university, retired, who said cheat all the
time, otherwise there would have been a winner a long time ago.

And, he said, in some cases, people have already won the prize but I won't pay
them.

He also said that I'm too aggressive and rude.


Now, I can be aggressive, that's quite true.

Yes, just try me and you'll see.

But with these innocent people who are self- deceived, certainly I am not
aggressive.


Well, this professor, he showed up in Wurzburg and at first he was very angry
about everything, and he looked at me with this awful expression on his face.

After half an hour he was lightening up a little bit because he found that I was
not the very bad person that he'd believed I was.


But then, it's hard to tell you this, really, he was doing tests that he wanted
the million dollars for, but he wanted to see how I did the tests first, that's
why he was in Wurzburg.

This man had said that he didn't like my attitude, all of those things.

He showed up he watched me do some of the tests, and he lightened up
considerably, but then he showed his weakness.

Now, this is an academic, a man with a university degree.

I don't have a university degree.

I'm merely someone who observes and uses common sense.

You don't get a university degree for common sense, apparently.


This gentleman was doing tests with children in which he had a large bag, and
inside were ping-pong balls numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc., all the way up to 25,
and the children were supposed to reach in and select any given number; ah-ha!

There it is!

I win!


Well, I wondered about that.

What was his expertise in ping-pong balls?

He showed me the bag.

He laid it on the table, and Martin Mahner and I, who were there watching the
tests, looked at one another in astonishment.

The bag was made out of a netlike plastic material.

You could read the numbers of the balls from outside the bag!
You could see it very plainly, and on my Web site I have, I will have shortly,
some photographs that I took with my digital camera where you can see the
numbers through the bag.


Well, then I decided to test the man to see what his observing powers were, so I
said, "Let me demonstrate."

I reached into the bag and I took out a ball with number 3 on it, and I said,
"That would be ball number 3."

He said, "Yes."

I put it aside and said, "Now I will choose ball number 5."

Ball number 5!


He was astonished.

Of course, now he assumed that I had psychic powers, too, you see?

Well, I'll tell you the secret, it's very simple: when I reached in, I took two
balls.

One here, and one down here [shows hand] and I looked at both number 3 and
number 5, and I said, 'Number 3', having the number 5 ball still in my hand,
then I reached into the bag and came out with number 5.

That's what had astonished him.


Now, that's two thing in which he demonstrated his ignorance of scientific
procedure.

But then it really got to me.

We had two thermometers laid there that were measuring the air temperature.

He wanted to photograph them with his digital camera to make sure the two of
them were reading exactly the same temperature.

He reached down and took one of the thermometers and he turned it around so the
numbers were facing his camera.

He took the photograph, then he looked at the thermometers.

He said, "Oh, this thermometer is reading about one- third of one degree Celsius
higher."

That was because he had picked it up by the bulb end so it was measuring his
body temperature!

This is a scientist!

I am not a scientist, but I have common sense.


Now, we get claims all the time, as far as difficult claims go, from people
asking, can we prove that God doesn't exist?

Ah, but they have the wrong picture, you see?

I don't say that any of these power, including God, doesn't exist; I make no
claim.

I ask them to make the claim, and they have to prove that they're right.

So they say, okay, "God exists."

I say, "Prove it."


"Ah, um, I'll call you back."


"Hello?", and we never hear from them again.



Now, the other people who are difficult to test are those with very strong
emotional investment in the tests.

I'm a sympathetic man, I really am, I'm considerate of these people.

They come to me and they want to be tested, but I know that when they fail the
test, theoretically they should be very depressed, they should feel very sorry:
"Oh, something's awfully wrong here."

It will destroy their emotional stability.

I don't want to do that, but in some cases it's not possible to avoid it.


For example: Linda, my administrative director, came to me recently and she
said, "There're some people at the front door from Lithuania."

Now, I'm in Florida.

They said they could do psychic diagnosis of the human body, and I said, "Well,
we're not ready for you."

"If you want to give a quick try, you can do that, sure."

"Ah, try me."


Now, that was unwise of me because many details about me are on the Web and can
be found with the search engine Google.

Google knows everything, you know that, yes?

Google knows all facts.

And I thought maybe they would look me up in Google.

No, they weren't that smart.


The two women who came in did a complete analysis of my body, and they decided
that I had every disease that a 74-year-old man should have.

I don't have any of those.

I have others, and they didn't spot any of the other ones, and I won't tell you
what they are.


But it was so typical.

They know that I should have prostate problems.

I should have this

I should have other problems.

But I didn't have any of those, and I said, "Now, you told me that you would be
one-hundred percent correct."

"Yes, yes, yes."


And I said, "Well, here's a medical examination from two months ago, there's all
the details there."

They just pushed it aside.

I said, "But you aren't a hundred percent correct."

"Oh, yes, yes! But we know things that the doctors don't know."



Okay

But, you see, that's a very difficult thing to handle.

How do you answer something like that?

Of course, the point is they had not made out the application form, filled out
the required documentation in advance, so the tests were not valid.

However, the sad part of this is that the new president of Lithuania has now
employed one of these woman as his official psychic!

That's a little worrisome.

I wouldn't go to Lithuania.

Not now.


We had other sad cases, difficult situatios.

One Mexican man showed up at our door with an empty suitcase in his hand, to
hold the million dollars.

We asked him, through our interpreter, why he had come.

He was a very poor man, and he'd come from Mexico, somehow, with this empty
suitcase, and he said, "I can win the million dollars because I met a UFO out in
the desert."


"Yes ?"


"And they spoke to me."


"Yes ?"

"And now I glow in the dark."

"You can see me in the dark."


"Okay, we can test that right now."


So we took him into our library, which has no windows, it's all dark inside, and
I went and got two people off the street.

I said, "Would you volunteer to do a scientific experiment?"

"Oh, yes, of course."


So they came in, I put them in the room, put the man in the room, turned out the
lights.

I said, "Can you see this man?"


They said, "What man?"

I said, "The Mexican gentleman here says he glows in the ark."


"No, no."

"You can't see him?"

"No."


We turned on the light again.

I said, "They can't see you," and he replied, "Oh, I'm not feeling strong, I
haven't had breakfast yet."

I said, "Well, go and have breakfast, if you want, and come back."

"Oh, I will, I will."

He took his suitcase and he left.

I didn't see him again.

He didn't come back.

But you have to feel sorry for people like this.


I also tested a group of children from an organization called Instituto Mas
Vida; the Institute for More Life.

This is a group in Mexico that teaches children to see while blindfolded.

Well, actually they don't teach them to see while blindfolded, they teach them
to cheat while blindfolded.

When you give the children something written and they're wearing a blindfold,
you see them peeking.

Ah, yes, then they can read it, you see?

Or if you hold it up here, they say, "What paper?"
BR>"Where?"

"Where?"

You hold it down here, way down here, they can see it, and they like to put it
on their laps while they're sitting in the chair, and then they read it like
this, with their head tilted up.


So I simply take a little bit of tape and put it into their eye orbits over
their eyelids so they cannot open their eyes, and they lose their psychic powers
immediately.

I tested them live on Japanese television, and another group like that in Korea.


These are some of the difficult ones to handle because these are children, and
you don't want to be cruel to children.

They're doing a little joke.

They don't think it's serious, but of course it can be very serious.


You must know that most of the people, the vast majority of people who come to
be tested for the million-dollar prize, are innocent.

They're self-deluded.

They're not the fakers.

Oh, I've had a few of those, but I get rid of them.

I pointwhere the trick is, good-bye, and they're gone.

But very few.

Most of them are very innocent, so innocent that when you ask them, "How
successful will this test be?"

They always say, "One-hundred percent."

"I never miss."

That's an easy test to do.

As soon as they miss one; arrivederci.

I have tested many people who said one-hundred percent, and I must tell you this
to show you the poor understanding that some people have of statistics.

On a program that we did for Lexington Broadcasting Corporation, before the
million-dollar prize, for one hundred thousand dollars, I spoke with the
producers and they said, "Now, we've got to be careful that we don't lose our
hundred thousand dollars."

I said, "Oh, yes, of course."

An astrologer applied, and he said, "If you give me twelve people from the
audience who have their drivers licenses to prove what month and date they were
born"

"Ye ?"

"Make sure they're twelve different signs of the Zodiac."

"Yes ?"

"And I will ask them simple questions and I'll be able to tell what their sign
is."

"Okay."


So we got twelve people and he asked them questions.

He said things like, "When you see a motion picture in the theatre, do you like
a comedy better than a drama?"

"Ah, I see, that's significant."

"Do you like red and orange better than you like blue and green?"

"Ah, really?"


And then at the end he gave them a piece of paper, sealed in an envelope, which
had their sign, what he thought their Zodiacal sign was.

There were twelve of them.


Now, I said to the producers, "This man says that he can get eleven out of
twelve right."

"Think about that."

And they said, "No, it should be twelve."

I said, "No, I'd like to make it ten."

And they said, "Oh, no, that's too easy, no, it's too easy."


They didn't understnd that getting eleven out of twelve is also twelve out of
twelve, and I tried to show them on paper, and they were saying, "No, no."

"We want twelve out of twelve."


"Okay."


This was the producer of the program and all of his staff.

Strange, but nonetheless true.


Now, as I said, the major proportion of our claimants are dowsers, and they're
almost always innocent, except in two cases that happened, both in Australia.

In one case we found the dowser asking the superintendent of a building where
the pipes were under the ground before we got there.

That's not allowed, no.

In the other case, a man had developed an electronic method of telling something
about a machine.

I won't get into all the details on that one, but only twice have dowsers ever
actually tried to cheat to win the million dollars.


We just did tests, as I said, in Wurzburg.

Well, I'm always ready for a surprise.

Wurzburg wasn't very muc of a surprise because the tests were more or less what
I expected.

One of them will really interest you.

A man who said that if he took a bottle of water right from the store and passed
his hand around it, it would taste better than the other bottle which he didn't
affect.


Well, we tested that, and it was very easy to do.

We gave him fifty trials, where after he left the room, the randomizing team
would take samples from the treated bottle and put them into certain wine
glasses and from the untreated bottle into other wine glasses.

His chance was 50 percent, one in two, of being successful.


He was very pompous.

"Oh, yes, I'm gonna win this prize, heh, heh, heh, I'm very successful at this."



Well, at the end of the test, we showed him that he had gotten twenty-two
correct out of fifty, when twenty-five would be expected by chance.

Well, he has now called the GWUP [German skeptics group] and offered all kinds
of excuses. BR>
One of the excuses was when he was [makes hand gestures] doing this, the other
bottle was too close, because these powerful vibrations, you see, go out to the
other bottle, too.

Okay, well, we'll do it next time with them five meters apart, and then twenty
meters apart, but I think he won't be back.

They very seldom return to be tested again.


They get stranger and stranger.

One man said that he had an object with him that he could dowse or divine with
his pendulum.

He had a piece of wire that he wiggled around, and he was very sensitive to this
object.

I said, "Use whatever object you want."

Now, I thought it might be a piece of gold, or something like that.

No, it was a little heart-shaped piece of soap.

You don't ask questions of these people, you just say, "Okay, if that's what you
say, we'll do it."

So we did some "open" trials where he knew where the soap was in one of ten
boxes, and he was successful every time ecause he knew, you see?

But the pendulum went like mad!

Over this box, nothing; this box, nothing; this box, nothing.

Oh, there it goes!

When he knew.


Well, then we had him do thirteen tests for another statistical reason.

At the end of it he had gotten one correct out of the thirteen which is in good
agreement with the one out of ten the chances were that he would have.


He said that he was very sensitive to this piece of mineral.

I said, "If I conceal it in my hand, can you still detect it?"


He said, "Oh, yes!"


So I concealed it in my hand and the wire went like crazy.

"Oh, but look," I said, showing that hand to be empty.


And, without pause, he said, "Oh, yes, I was detecting it from your other hand."


Now, that's what they do.

To him, he had not lost the contest at all, he simply was detecting it in the
other hand because his powers were so great.


Well, the "oap dowser," ah, failed.

Goodbye.

But then we had a man who could make a mask move.

He took aluminum foil and pressed it onto his face, and took it off.

That gave him a "mask."

He suspended it on a fine hair, a human hair, not from me, obviously!, inside a
sealed container, and naturally it sat there and very slowly turned, then it
very slowly turned back, very, very slowly.

We said, "Okay, we'll give you the instruction when it will turn and when it
will not turn."

But it never stopped turning.

Back and forth, all the time, going, going, going, and he couldn't understand
that, either.


This is the kind of people who are innocent; they really believe they have the
powers.

This "mask" man has since come up with excuses as to why he failed.

But there are some cases that are impossible, absolutely impossible, and most of
those cases are created by the claimant's lawyers.

Remember lawyers?

You've seen them yes, I'm sure you have them in Italy, too.

The lawyers often make it impossible, because for months and months they
exchange letters.

We want to change this rule, we want to change that rule, we want to take this
adjective out, we want to change this number and, okay.


Yawn.


And we go on and on and on with the lawyers.

So most of the cases that it's impossible to test, it's because of the lawyers.


But there are others, too.

You may think that I'm making these up.

I don't have to invent these things.

In fact, I could not invent these crazy claims like the heart-shaped piece of
soap.

That would take Victor Hugo or some other great fiction artist to create.

I couldn't create them.


There are two brothers in Dubai, Arab Emirate.

They sent an e-mail saying, "We want the million dollars."

I said, "Okay, why?"

"Well, because the two of us make the sun rise every morning."

Well, I thought about that.

I wonder how we could design a test?

So I said, wait, wait, this may be just a joke.

Well, whether it is or not, I'll treat it as if it's serious.

So I wrote back to them and I said, "Which one of you makes it rise?"

"Um, we don't know."

"We both work on it and the sun rises every morning, you can see that."

I said, "Yes, the evidence is 100 percent in your favor."

Then I said, "I have an experiment."

"One of you shoot the other one."

"Then if the sun rises the next morning, it wasn't him."

"Must be you."

"Well, then, what you do is you shoot yourself, and if the sun rises the next
morning, you lose."

"But if the sun doesn't rise the next morning, I'll pay you."

I don't think we've heard back from them.


The worst things that are impossible to test are the anecdotal stories.

Anecdotal stories like "Oh, my grandmother did this, she did that."

I was't there, I don't know your grandmother, I don't want to hear stories about
what happened in the past, and the rules specifically say it must be here and
now, with an experiment that we agree on and design together.

But anecdotal stories are by far the greatest part of it.


Now, another test in Wurzburg.

A lady showed up with her husband, and she said if we provided her pictures of
people, she would be able to tell if these people had heart conditions.

Okay, that's a good test.

So we got her thirty-eight photographs of people of all ages and different
genders and a great variety of people, and we knew from medical examinations and
from medical records that some of these people, approximately half of them, had
very obvious heart conditions for which they were being treated.

For the others, EKGs checked them out perfectly.

No problems with their hearts.


Well, she also said that she would be one hundred percent correct.

By chance, se should have identified nineteen out of the thirty-eight samples
that she had.

She was using the strangest method I ever saw in my life.

It was a combination of Therapeutic Touch, Chinese pulse reading, and applied
kinesiology, forcing the arm up and down, all done on her husband while he held
the photograph!

Don't look at me like that, that's her idea, not mine.

Well, she got eighteen correct out of thirty- eight, just less than chance.

Well, now, of course, she's also written to GWUP with all kinds of excuses, and
now she wants her lawyers to stop me from publishing this information.

I have just published that information.

Now, go ahead, stop me.



This is difficult in many ways, this whole subject of testing people.

It's difficult from a moral point of view.

Now, a person like Uri Geller, you remember him?

He used to bend spoons.

There's an occupation for you!

"Mr. Geller, what do you do for a lving?"


"I bend spoons."


"Do you straighten spoons, too?"


"No, no, I just bend them."

I ask you: has bending spoons ever moved humanity forward one little bit?

No.

He's been doing it for thirty years and our history hasn't changed one bit.

Hasn't made any difference whatsoever!


People like Geller say they don't want to take the million-dollar prize, well,
for many excuses.

"There's no million dollars."

Well, there is.

"And you won't give it to me."

I have to, under the law; I don't have any choice.

But Geller's reason is very unique.

He says, "No, I won't try for the million dollars, because I don't like James
Randi."


Wait a minute.

If he doesn't like me, why doesn't he take my million dollars?

You show me somebody I don't like who wants to give me a million dollars, I'll
take it, right away, and be very happy about it.


I'll close with some comments on what should be done when you do these tests.

Some people have said "Oh, with Geller, give him a spoon, an
'industrial-strength' spoon that nobody can bend."

No, you have to do it their way, under their circumstances.

You have to give them as much play as you can.

The point is not to prevent them from doing it, but to catch them at the trick,
if there is a trick.

Catch them, because otherwise you have no evidence.


Always get statements in advance.

From all of the people who apply, of the about two to three percent who get
through the first process just to do the preliminary test, I get statements in
advance.

I ask them, what are the statistics that you will agree to, and what will happen
if you don't succeed?

That's the interesting question.

I say to them, "If you fail in this test, what will your conclusion be?"


And they say, "Oh, I don't have to answer that because I know I will win."


"Well, wait a minute, just get crazy in your head, just suppose that maybe you
won't win he million dollars."

"What will your conclusion be?"


They say, "Oh, well, then I haven't got the power."


At that point, I give them a sealed envelope and I say, "Open that up after the
test."

I say, "Now, you won't have any excuses?"


"No, no."

"No, no."

"I know I'm going to win, I won't make any excuses."



Okay.

They do the test, they fail, and immediately they say, "Oh, well, it was
Thursday, that's a bad day for me."

Or, "Jupiter was in Sagittarius."

"That's a very bad combination for me."

Or it was too hot or it was too cold, whatever.

They always have excuses.


I say, "Open the envelope."


Inside the envelope it says, "Though you agreed not to make any excuses, you
have now made the excuses."

"I have the power of prophesy."

"I should win the million dollars."

"In fact, I think I will."



Now, I don't think it's likely, I think it's very highly unlikely.

But I would gladly pay the million dollars because it would mean that all of us,
the whole world, would know a new aspect of science that never existed before.

In fact, that discovery would overturn science completely, and scientists don't
mind that.

They're prepared to be reversed, because that gives them a better knowledge of
the universe.

So if I have to pay the million dollars, oh, it would hurt, yes, but I would
also be very happy.

That would be my investment in increasing the knowledge of human beings, and we
are all human beings.

Let's celebrate that fact.

Are Wormholes Tunnels for Time Travel?

As any self-respecting science fiction fan knows, wormholes-theoretical
shortcuts through space and time-make for excellent time travel portals.
The latest movie to transport people into the past is this summer's A Sound
of Thunder, based on the classic 1952 Ray Bradbury novella. In it, a group
of hunters build a time machine, which looks like a wormhole of sorts, to
travel back to the dinosaur era. There, things go awry when one hunter kills
a butterfly, which completely changes the course of history.



The movie was widely panned by critics and seems to have quickly slipped out
of theaters. But the questions it raises-the mystery of time and the
possibilities of traveling through it-remain among the thorniest in physics,
keeping a growing number of scientists occupied.
It's not like scientists are looking for a way to actually travel through
time. But some believe that theorizing about how it could be done-maybe by
using a wormhole in space-will help them understand and perhaps even revise
the laws of physics.
"Traversable wormholes are extremely useful as gedanken experiments"-the
term describes experiments that can be reasoned theoretically but are
impractical to carry out-"to probe the limitations of general relativity,"
said Francisco Lobo, an astrophysicist at the University of Lisbon in
Portugal.
Quantum Leap
Albert Einstein's relativity theory set the speed of light as the universal
speed limit and showed that distance and time are not absolute but instead
are affected by one's motion.
A clock in motion will always appear to run slowly compared with one at
rest, because time is relative to the speed at which a body is moving. That
fact would, in theory, allow for time travel-at least if you have a very
fast spaceship.
Consider this: If an astronaut travels into space for six months at a
substantial fraction of light speed and takes another six months to return
to Earth, he would land in the future.
While a year will have elapsed on the astronaut's clock, tens of thousands
of years may have gone by on Earth, depending on how close to light speed
the astronaut traveled.
"The bottom line is that time travel is allowed by the laws of physics,"
said Brian Greene, a Columbia University physics professor and the author of
The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality.
But the laws of space and time as Einstein laid them out may be revised by
the quirky rules of quantum theory. Quantum theory describes the microscopic
randomness that fills the universe.
At the subatomic scale, where the universe is jumpy and discontinuous,
physicists don't know how gravity behaves. They theorize that space and time
could collapse.
"We may discover some new laws of physics that could change the rules," said
Richard Gott, an astrophysicist at Princeton University.



Jumping Through
Relativity theory does not allow for travel into the past. But such travel
could possibly be achieved using Einstein-Rosen bridges, better known as
wormholes.
The theoretical shortcuts through space and time connect two distant points
in space, like a worm tunnel through an apple.
Kip Thorne, a gravitational theorist at the California Institute of
Technology in Pasadena, showed in 1988 that these tunnels could be kept open
by an exotic form of matter known as Casimir energy.
This energy, which has been measured in a laboratory, is a sort of quantum
vacuum. Weighing less than zero, Casimir energy would have an
anti-gravitational effect, keeping the wormhole's walls apart.
"It has been conjectured that general relativity prohibits the existence of
negative energy densities, [but] quantum mechanics demonstrates that the
vacuum may not always have a zero energy density," Lobo said.
Gott, the Princeton scientist, envisions the wormhole effect as being like
that of a mirrored garden ball. When looking through the wormhole, however,
one would not see a reflection of that same garden, but instead a garden on,
say, Alpha Centauri, the star closest to our solar system.
"You can jump through the wormhole and pop out on Alpha Centauri, and you've
just gone through a very narrow tunnel that connects these two very distant
places," Gott said. "The shortcut of the wormhole allows you to beat a light
beam to Alpha Centauri."
If one opening of the wormhole was moved around using the gravitational
effect of a spaceship traveling at a speed close to light, a clock at the
opening would run slow compared to one on the other end of the wormhole.
This could turn the wormhole into a portal between two different times, past
and future.
"I should point out that these wormholes are not something you put in your
kitchen. Each mouth weighs 100 million solar masses," Gott said, referring
to a unit of measurement equal to the mass the sun. "This is a
galactic-scale engineering project at best."
Phantom Energy
But the material needed to construct and support wormholes has been given a
boost from the recent discovery that the universe is undergoing an
accelerated expansion, says Lobo, the University of Lisbon scientist.
A possible driver of this cosmic expansion, he says, is "phantom energy," a
hypothetical matter that may comprise as much as 70 percent of the universe.
Phantom energy may be pushing space apart and is so anti-gravitational that
it will eventually rip everything apart, ending everything. However, before
then, it could be used to prop open wormholes, Lobo theorizes.
"In a rather speculative scenario, one could imagine an absurdly advanced
civilization mining the cosmic fluid for phantom energy necessary to
construct and sustain a traversable wormhole," he said.

World UFO enthusiastists descend in NE China city for
conference

The obsession with UFOs (unidentified flying objects)
has created the largest community of enthusiasts in
the world, said an organizer of the 2005 World UFO
conference.

A crowd of UFO enthusiasts gathered in Dalian, a port
city in northeast China's Liaoning Province on
Thursday to open the 2005 World UFO Conference. It is
the first time the event has been held in China, said
Friday's China Daily.

The newspaper quoted Sun Shili, chairman of the
conference as saying that the number of UFO
enthusiasts now exceeds half of the world's total
number of intellectuals.

"Ufology is blossoming in China, and the participants
to this conference are mostly professionals," said
Stanton Friedman, a US nuclear physicist to the
conference.

A UFO society in Dalian City has found that 90 percent
of its 400 members have college degrees.

During the conference, UFO enthusiasts exchanged their
sightings and exciting tales of UFOs. Most of them
believed that extraterrestrials do exist and that they
are more intelligent than us human beings.

Art Bell posed the question "But then again who listens to them
anymore?" in relation to www.ufowatchdog.com. Ido, and I suggest
that everyone with a serious interest in ufology (and not just
"show ratings") should visit the site and learn what some of the
"stars" of ufology are really about.

  Royce J. Myers maintains the site at considerable personal risk
(I don't know how many times he has been threatened by law suits,
none of which came to anything), and he performs a valuable
service to ufology.

Art is mistaken if he thinks no-one pays attention to
ufowatchdog.com, though there may be a large number of people
that don't know about it. You can find Art Bell's entry in the
"Hall of Shame", hall 1, near the bottom of the page.

ESSEX UNDER UFO SIEGE

       The UFO flap in UK's Essex region roared into its
second week with new sightings in Loughton and Chigwell.
       On Saturday, September 17, 2005, between 9 and 10
p.m., eyewitnesses in Chigwell, Essex saw ten orange UFOs
crossing the sky.
       Eyewitness Sharon Rodwell reported, "My neighbour and
I watched a total of ten of these orange lights appear and
then fade up into the sky.  The first sighting was two
orange lights that flew parallel at all times, from the
centre of London towards our house in Chigwell.  They then
stopped, hovering for a few minutes, and then clearly
skipped up into the sky until we could not see them any
more."
       "Just as they started to disappear, two more appeared
on the horizon and followed the exact (flight) path and
maneuvers.  They also disappeared up into the night sky at
the very same place."
       "About 10 minutes later, three lights appeared again
from the same place and flew the exact path as the other
four."
       "Then, approximately 20 minutes later, another three
appeared and, like the others before them, followed the
same path."
       "They all made no noise; those that flew together
were always flying parallel.  They all appeared from the
same place and disappeared in the same part of the night
sky."
       In Hainault, Essex, at approximately 9:30 p.m.,
eyewitness Victor S. reported, "We, my partner and I, had
just left my parents' house, roundabout 9:30 p.m., just
saying our goodbyes.  My Dad was helping us carry a box of
paper to the car.  We halted at the front gate when
something caught our eye above the house."
       "It was two orange lights in the sky, slowly moving
in the direction of the moon ...north-northwest.  There
they started to close in towards each other.  Then they
stopped.  My Dad was there with me, watching all the
time."
       "My Dad then said, 'Hang on!' and ran inside the
house and called for my Mum to come outside.  I was
standing frozen, watching the two orange lights, feeling
nervous."
       "As my Mum came through the front gate, she looked up
and, after about one minute, said, 'Look!'"
       "She pointed towards three orange lights travelling
at the same speed, in a triangular formation.  The three
lights then seperated, and the top light and bottom lights
then drifted apart and continued to travel."
       "Then my brother, who had been fetched whilst the
second set of lights was travelling, ran back into the
house to grab the digital camera.  He gave it to me, and I
began to take pictures."
       "Then a neighbour walked up the street and spoke to
my Dad.  He said he had seen the first two from his window
and so came outside to get a better look."
       "The three lights then stopped dead, and we all
watched."
       "The top and bottom lights (of the triangular
formation--V.S.) went out of vision (view--J.T.) as the
clouds moved around over them.  We could still see the
middle orange lights for approximately three minutes.
Then my brother and myself saw it shoot off at amazing
speed."
       "We arrived back home and immediately checked the
computer to see the pictures we had taken.  They were
amazing.  When we saw them (with our eyes--V.S.), they
were just orange balls of light.  On the computer,
however, there is a more defined shape to them."
       At first "the speed appeared to be one of a floating
balloon, but then it shot off at the speed of a jet--was
incredibly fast."
       On Friday, September 9, 2005, at 8:50 p.m., another
witness reported, "I would describe the UFO as an actually
flying craft which then put lights in the sky.  They were
definitely being unanswered.  I am a skydiver and would
say I have a good eye for the height of aircraft due to
this.  I would have placed the aircraft a lot higher than
the other witnesses, 30,000 feet (9,000 meters) minimum."
       "As I watched the three craft come across from the
left, they were in a large triangular formation.  They
slowed as they came over the stones reserve at the back of
my barn, which is a massive expanse of land 5 miles (8
kilometers) or so from Canary Wharf, London."
       "They created a very tight triangular formation where
they stayed for about one minute, still at the same
altitude...Minutes later, three police cars went screaming
past, in the direction of the UFOs.  I had a (copy of the)
National Press" and learned that "the police were called
out because they had been inundated with calls of UFO
sightings."
       On Saturday, September 10, 2005, a fourth witness
reported, "Myself and my family saw the UFO.  It was 8:35
p.m.  I was in my garden and, for some reason, I looked
up, and to my amazement, I saw three orange glowing balls
of light.  I knew it straight away that these were not
aircraft of any kind.  Loughton is close to Stanstead, and
aircraft are a common sight in the sky, but then this
object had no sound, and they say this was the most
frightening thing we've ever seen in the sky."
       "I went inside to grab my camcorder and my still
camera.  I managed to get some footage of the UFOs and
some still shots.  In fact, there were two or three
different times the objects passed by.  The first was seen
at 8:35 p.m., and then another one at 8:45 p.m., and a
further one at 8:55 p.m.  Each time they passed, they
moved at the same rate of speed, with a lead craft and two
behind,  sometimes the three then moving to form a

UFOs SPOTTED IN SCOTLAND
AND WEST YORKSHIRE

       On Thursday, September 15, 2005, eyewitness Mel C.
was outdoors in Fife, Scotland, UK when "four or five
white glows, looking the same as a reflected spotlight in
the clouds, were rotating in a wide circular formation.
Stopping before one full turn, then reversing.  Reflection
was angled a few meters above but with no aircraft seen
and no (light) beam emitting from the ground.  The lights
traveled a distance of 12 miles (20 kilometers) over the
countryside, anywhere withing a 15-mile (25-kilometer)
radius."
       "A radio announcement of the sighting was made,
stating that thousands had seen these mysterious lights.
I believe it was on Radio Forth."
       On Monday, September 12, 2005, eyewitness Jeff C. was
outdoors in his hometown of Knottingley, West Yorkshire,
UK when he saw something unusual approaching from the
north-northwest.
       "I was looking at the Great Bear (Ursa Major--J.T.)
constellation from my back door," Jeff reported, "and I
saw two fast orange lights.  I thought it was a light
aircraft travelling southeast.  As it travelled, lots more
little orange lights came into view in a V shape.  I
watched it for about eight seconds as it went out of view
over the rooftop."
       "There were lots of small orange lights forming a V
shape rather like a boomerang.  No sound, but about the
same height (altitude--J.T.) and speed as a light

DAYLIGHT DISC SHADOWS
MEXICO'S PRESIDENT

       On Tuesday, September 13, 2005, "a major UFO sighting
took place" in Mexico City "just minutes after an official
event involving President Vicente A. Fox had taken place."
       "According to Gerardo Martinez Fernandez, a reporter
for Grupo Imagen, President Fox inaugurated the new dining
room at Escola Reino Unito de Gran Bretana primary school,
which is located in the capital's Coronel del Valle
district."
       "Only a few minutes prior to the First Citizen's
(President Fox's--J.T.) arrival, many witnesses were able
to see a shiny spherical object in the sky. An anonymous
girl granted an interview to Martinez Fernandez, and the
girl explained that the UFO resembled 'a very shiny
star.'"
       Martinez Fernandez reported, "On September 13, I
covered an event involving President Fox on the Avenida
Coyoacan and was amazed to see many people directing their
attention upward.  Upon getting out of the vehicle, I was
told that they were watching an unidentified flying
object."
       "Personally, I didn't get to see it, but I asked
other reporters if they knew anything about this strange
event.  Jesus Cardenas of Televisa told me that his

REDDISH-ORANGE UFO
SEEN IN CALIFORNIA

       On Sunday, August 28, 2005, eyewitness Nekk reported,
"My first sighting occurred after visiting a neighbor
while walking here" in Grass Valley, California
(population 10,922) "The distance between our houses is
that of a football field."
       The sighting "involved a craft of solid light with an
orange-red force field around it.  It was a circular
orangeness cruising in a dead-quiet manner. As it moved,
heading in a northeasterly direction, and at about 2,000
to 3,000 feet (600 to 900 meters), it adjusted its course
in a way no human craft could manuever.  It would turn on
a dime, instantly turning with immediate results."
       From Monday, August 29, 2005 to Saturday, September
3, 2005, Nekk continued to see UFO activity over his
hometown.  He added, "The other six sightings were of
aircraft traveling with the constellations."
       Nekk explained that he was tired and ready to go to
bed, when, suddenly, "my instincts told me to go outside
and look at the stars.  I could no longer ignore the urge
and got out of bed and went outside to see what was up.
That's when I saw it--a solid white glowing craft with a
reddish force field.  Very strange.  It was moving at
about the speed of a fighter plane, but it was larger than
a (Boeing) 747 passenger plane."
       Grass Valley, Cal. is on Highway 20 about 35 miles
(58 kilometers) northeast of Sacramento, the state

LUMINOUS UFO SIGHTED
IN CHANDLER, ARIZONA

       On Friday, September 16, 2005, at 4:30 a.m.,
eyewitness Juan Ramon Montoya reported, "My dogs awakened
me to take them out to the backyard.  I noticed the sky
was clear, no clouds.  It was still dark and the stars
were out.  I was looking up at the stars when I noticed a
bright circular light coming from the northwest.  The
light moved steadily and smoothly towards the south.  It
moved back and forth very smoothly without any jerky
movements.  There was no sign of any flashing (navigation)
lights that airplanes have.  It had a very bright glowing
white light.  I watched as the light just seemed to follow
the pattern of the stars across the dark sky.  It then
turned and headed towards a peak on the (western)
horizon."
       Chandler is located 12 miles (20 kilometers)
southeast of Phoenix, the state capital and Arizona's

HIGH-FLYING UFO SIGHTED
OVER SARNIA, ONTARIO

       On Monday, September 12, 2005, eyewitness Mike W.
reported, "While walking in a northerly direction" in
Sarnia, Ontario, Canada (population 72,738), "I observed a
pair of flashing white and one red light (on the same
craft--M.W.) travelling in a northerly direction.  The
lights were very high in the sky, and they moved in a
northeasterly direction," over Lake Huron.
       "Continuing to look skyward as I turned the corner, I
walked west, and I observed another set of the same type
of lights--two white and one red--travelling due west.
They stopped in mid-air, then they moved towards the
lights I'd just sighted in a northeasterly direction."
       "On the second object, the blinking red light was on
the left side as it began going east, without turning, as
if it was going backwards."
       Sarnia, Ont. is on the south shore of Lake Huron,
located about 175 miles (240 kilometers) west-southwest of

BIGFOOT FAMILY TERRIFIES
CAMPERS IN THE CRIMEA

       On Sunday, August 21, 2005, a group of 12 campers, 7
adults and 5 children, were hiking on the Demedzhi
Plateau, between North Demedzhi Mountain and Stol-Gora
(Russian for Table-Top--J.T.) Mountain when they
encountered a family or tribe of Kapustin, a hairy man-
beast common to the Crimea and the Caucasus and similar to
North America's Bigfoot or Australia's Yowie.
       "On that Sunday, Ivan S., 21, and his group of 12
tourists were spending their second day camped on the
plateau between North Demedzhi Mountain and Stol-Gora
Mountain," Crimean ufologist Anton A. Anfalov reported,
"The night was very bright with a full moon."
       "The kids went to sleep early.  The adults stayed up
a while.  Ivan's assistant, Sasha (Russian nickname for
Aleksander--J.T.) and several of the men went outside of
the camp to answer a call of nature.  When they returned,
they looked terrified, trembling with fear and nearly
scared to death."
       "And then everyone heard a frightful growl near the
camp."
       "'Then we went back out to the scene, all dressed in
a greenish military camoflauge,' Sasha was quoted as
saying, 'I was armed with the camp axe.  In that moment,
we saw strange creatures, looking like naked men, quite
nearby.'"
       "'There were three creatures,' Sasha said, 'And they
were about 6 meters (20 feet) away from us.  The hairy
humanoids were 2 to 2.5 meters in height (about 6 feet, 6
inches to 8 feet tall--J.T.).  The true height of these
creatures is hard to estimate because they were all
crouched down and balancing themselves on their fists,
like large apes.  All three were growling at us.  Their
faces were very hairy, almost without wrinkles, and their
eyes were not shiny at all.  Their necks were set or
positioned very low, even among their children, almost as
if they had no necks.  From behind, they had something
like humps'" on the spine.
       "Sasha was standing closer and saw that the hairy
creatures had some kind of lighter outgrowth, like light
fur for their necks and eyebrows."
       "Witnesses said they could not tell if the creatures
were male or female."
       "The creatures were highly aggressive.  The witnesses
were terribly scared."  The beasts' noise woke the
children who "fell into a hysterical state.  Girls were
crying and screaming, 'Call someone!'"
       The standoff lasted for about 45 minutes.  "Sasha
then said he couldn't wait any more.  Finally, the
creatures turned and bounded away," with a strange ape-
like bouncing leap.
       The campers spent a sleepless night around their
fire.  "People were trembling from fear and waiting for
the dawn.  In the morning, Ivan and the others went back
to the site but unfortunately did not find any traces of
the mysterious night visitors within the dense beech
forest.  The land was covered with thick layers of fallen

TWO CARACAS WOMEN
NABBED IN RITUAL MURDER

       A court in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela,
"ordered the arrest of a 19-year-old woman and her 44-
year-old mother for the alleged murder of a two-month-old
baby during a Satanic ritual held Monday," September 12,
2005.
       "The murder of the child--nephew and grandchild to
the women--was committed in a poor neighborhood of
Caracas," one of the largest cities in South America, "and
was preceded by a ceremony, in which, according to the
press, a dog was sacrificed and its blood poured over the
participants."
       "All versions of the story agree that the 'celebrant'
of the ritual was Monica Castro, 19, the baby's aunt.  The
child was beaten to death after being subjected to
chilling tortures."
       "Castro told (Venezuelan) police that she was incited
by her sister, Virginia, 29, the baby's mother, who was
strangled 15 days ago under unclear circumstances.  The
mother allegedly ordered, from beyond the grave, that 'the
child be slain to give its soul to the Devil.'"
       According to police, "at the height of the ritual,
Monica ran out into the street, nude and bathed in the
dog's blood, screaming.  Her shouts alarmed the neighbors,
who called the police.  The authorities arrived just in
time to keep Monica from being lynched when the child's
death was discovered."
       "The court also ordered the arrest of Marisabel
Suarez, her mother, for being present at the ceremony and
doing nothing to stop it.  A psychiatric examination has
been ordered for Monica."
       "Investigations began after a 15-year-old was
arrested in the alleged murder of his mother, Miriam
Padron, and of college student Lissbeth Quintero on August
10, 2005."
       "The prosecutor's office recalled that Padron and
Quintero were stabbed 37 times."
       "Police found 'a variety of artifacts employed in

BLOCKED KATRINA AID

       "The federal official with the power to mobilize a
massive federal response to Hurricane Katrina was Homeland
Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, not the former FEMA
chief who was relieved of his duties and reassigned,
federal documents reviewed by Knight-Ridder (newspapers)
show."
       "Even before the storm struck the Gulf Coast" three
weeks ago, "Chertoff could have ordered federal agencies
into action without any request from state or local
officials.  Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
chief Michael Brown had only limited authority to do so
until about 36 hours after the storm hit, when Chertoff
designated him as the 'principal federal official' in
charge of the storm."
       "As thousands of hurricane victims went without food,
water and shelter in the days after Katrina's August 29
(2005) landfall, critics assailed Brown for being
responsible for delays that might have cost hundreds of
lives."
       "But Chertoff--not Brown--was in charge of managing
the national response to a catastrophic disaster,
according to the National Response Plan, the federal (USA)
government's blueprint for how agencies will handle major
natural disasters or terrorist incidents.  An order issued
by President (Geroge W.) Bush in 2003 also assigned that
responsibility to the homeland security director."
       "But according to a memo obtained by Knight Ridder,
Chertoff didn't shift that power to Brown until late
afternoon or evening on August 30, about 36 hours after
Katrina hit Louisiana and Mississippi.  That same memo
suggests that Chertoff may have been confused about his
lead role in the disaster response and that of his
department."
       "'As you know, the President has established the
'White House Task Force on Hurricane Katrina Response.'
He will meet with us tomorrow to launch this effort.  The
Department of Homeland Security, along with other
Departments, will be part of the task force and will
assist the Administration with its response to Hurricane
Katrina,' Chertoff said in his memo to" Defense Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld and other members of the Cabinet.
       "On the day that Chertoff wrote the memo, Bush was in
San Diego presiding over a ceremony marking the 60th
Anniversary of the end of World War II."
       "Chertoff's August 30 memo for the first time
declared Katrina an 'Incident of National Significance,' a
key designation that triggers swift federal coordination."
       "That same day, August 31, the Department of Defense,
whose troops and equipment are crucial in such large
disasters activated its Task Force Katrina. But active-
duty troops didn't begin to arrive in large numbers along
the Gulf Coast until September 3 (2005)."
       "White House and homeland security officials wouldn't
explain why Chertoff waited 36 hours to declare Katrina an
incident of national significance; and why he didn't
immediately direct the federal response from the moment on
(Saturday) August 27 (2005) when the National Hurricane
Center predicted that Katrina would strike the Gulf Coast
with catastrophic force in 48 hours."
       "Nor would they explain why Bush felt the need to
appoint a separate task force."
       Two days after Katrina, on Wednesday, August 31,
2005, "President Bush went on national television to
announce a massive federal rescue and relief effort."
       "But orders to move didn't reach key active military
units for another three days."
       "Once they received them, it took just eight hours
for 3,600 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort
Bragg, North Carolina, to be on the ground in Louisiana
and Mississippi with vital search-and-rescue helicopters."
       "Another 2,500 soon followed from the 1st Cavalry
Division at Fort Hood, Texas."
       "'If the 1st Cav and the 82nd Airborne had gotten
there on time, I think we would have saved some lives,'
said Gen. Julius Becton Jr., who was the director of FEMA
under President (Ronald W.) Reagan from 1985 to 1989.  'We
recognized we had to get people out, and they had
helicopters to do that.'"
       "Several emergency response experts, however,
questioned whether Bush and Homeland Security Secretary
Michael Chertoff understood how much authority they had to
tap all of the resources of the federal government--
including those of the Department of Defense."
       "Chertoff, who aides said has been engaged in the
response of Hurricane Katrina, went to Atlanta (Georgia)
the day after the storm hit (August 30) for a previously-
scheduled briefing on avian flu.  Aides also conceded that
Washington officials were unable to confirm that that the
levees in New Orleans had failed until midday on August
30.  The breaches were discovered in Louisiana about 32
hours earlier."
       Michael Greenberger, "the Maryland homeland security
expert, said he wonders whether Chertoff and other top
federal officials understand the National Response Plan or
even had read it before Katrina."
       "'Everything he did and everything he has said
strongly suggests that the plan was never read,'
Greenberger said of Chertoff.
(Editor's Comment:  Or at least never followed.  A simple
phone call to Mayor Nagin's office the evening of August
29, 2005 would have gotten confirmation of the breach of
the three levees.)
       "Chertoff was in Gulfport, Miss. on Friday,"
September 16, 2005, "to participate in the Harrison County
National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.  He took no
questions from reporters.  Homeland Security officials

WHO BLEW UP THE LEVEES?

       The official story is that runaway barges crashed
into the three levees--along the Industrial Canal, the
17th Street Canal and the London Street Canal--in New
Orleans.  The levees then collapsed, allowing thousands of
cubic miles of Lake Pontchartrain to flood the hurricane-
ravaged city.
       But there are those in the U.S. military who dispute
that claim.
       "Divers inspecting the levee walls surrounding New
Orleans found something that piqued their interest--burn
marks on underwater debris, including chunks from the
broken levee wall."
       "One diver, a member of the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, saw the burn marks and understood how something
had caused them.  He secreted a chunk of concrete under
his wetsuit and later arranged for it to be sent to a
trusted military friend at the U.S. Army Forensics
Laboratory at Fort Gillem, Georgia for testing."
       "According to well-placed military sources, a
forensic specialist determined that the burn marks on the
concrete didn't, in fact, come from high explosives.  The
officer, speaking on conditions of anonymity, said, 'We
discovered traces of boron-enhanced fluoronitroamino
explosives, as well as POXN-3.  That would indicate at
least two separate types of explosive devices."
       "The flooding of New Orleans did not take place
during Hurricane Katrina but rather a day after the
hurricane struck.  Several residents of New Orleans and
many emergency workers reported hearing what sounded like
muffled explosives from the area of the levees."  But
these reports were "dismissed as gas explosions from homes
with leaking gas lines."
       A few investigators are questioning the timeline of
the levee breaches, "suggesting that there was a 21-hour
discrepancy between the (hurricane's) storm surge and the
collapse of the levees.  The first levee broke just a few
hours after the hurricane's passage."
       Residents of the Ninth Ward claim to have heard
several explosions just before the first levee broke.
       One resident, Andrea Galand, commented, "They had to
prevent Uptown from being flooded.  Apparently, they
turned towards dynamite, then flooded parts of the
Baywater.  So now I know who's responsible for flooding my
house--not Katrina but our own government."  (See Farm

BILOXI, MISS. OCCUPIED BY
MEXICAN, DUTCH MARINES

       Biloxi, Mississippi (population 50,644), once the
unofficial capital of "the Redneck Riviera" and now
largely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, has apparently
become the first city in the USA to fall under occupation
by the New World Order.
       "The Marines have landed in Biloxi--the Mexican
Marines.  And Dutch Marines, as well."
       "For the first time since the Nineteenth Century,
Mexican troops landed Friday," September 9, 2005, "on U.S.
soil, sent from the Mexican Navy ship ARM Papaloapan
(Nahuatl for River of Butterflies--J.T.), anchored near
the USS Bataan."
       "Marines from Mexico, Holland (the Netherlands--J.T.)
and the U.S. are part of an international Hurricane
Katrina cleanup effort, building up on ships about 20
miles (32 kilometers) offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
Four Canadian ships are on the way."
       "'Our president (Vicente Fox--J.T.) called George
Bush and three days later we came here,' said Oscar
Martinez Pretelin, a fleet or admiral rank officer aboard
the Papaloapan, a 440-foot long U.S.-built troop landing
ship."
       "'We are honored to help the United States,' Pretelin
told press and television reporters Thursday," September
8, 2005, aboard the Mexican ship."
       "About 75 Mexican Marines landed Thursday on the
beach just east of Beau Rivage casino to begin cleaning up
Biloxi, especially around schools and churches."
       "Mexican Marine Mario T. Rodriguez said he left a
small city in the far south of Mexico to volunteer for
hurricane-relief duty.  He said he has a three-month-old
daughter with his wife at home."
       "'I am happy.  I am very happy.  The U.S. is so rich,
but even a rich country can need help,' he said."
       "The Mexican Marines will be aided by Spanish-
speaking members of the Bataan's crew as they work the
devastated areas of Biloxi and Gulfport, said Journalism
Chief Dave Fitz of the Bataan."
       "For the first time in the history of the Mexican
military, women have been assigned to a military mission,'
said Lt. Leonardo Tun Humbert of the Papaloapan."
       "Three female physicians and two nurses from the
Mexican Navy are aboard the ship waiting to be assigned to
hurricane relief work."
       "Lt. Ruben Pascual, 34, of Veracruz, Mexico, is a
member of the Papaloapan's medical staff who will begin
working today in the hurricane devastated areas."
       "'Our job is to give support to the people.  We must
support all the people who need medical help.  We are
proud to be of help,' he said."
       "Sgt. Carmen Rodriguez Cruz, a 26-year-old nurse from
Veracruz, is part of the history-making contingent of
female Mexican military."
       "'We are trained, and we will help,' Rodriguez said
through an interpreter."
       "The Dutch ship, the Van Amstel, is a heavily-armed
frigate that was pulled off a drug patrol near Aruba after
Katrina struck on August 29 (2005)."
       "The Van Amstel's Lt. Commander Henk Suurveld, the
ship's second-in-command, said his men will patrol the bay
to make sure pleasure craft don't interfere with military
rescue operations."
       "A contingent of about 70 Dutch Marines also landed
on the beach in Biloxi Thursday to clean up
neighborhoods."
       "'The devastation is terrible.  It is horrible.  For
us, job satisfaction is helping out in a situation like
this,' Suurveld said."
       "A minor culture shock for members of the Mexican
Navy was learning that the commander of the Bataan, Capt.
Nora Tyson, was a woman.  The Bataan is an 844-foot-long
ship equipped with six helicopters that began rescue
operations in New Orleans the day after Katrina struck."
       "The ship was shifted to the Biloxi area on
Thursday."
       "'We were surprised to find a woman commanding a
ship,' said Pretelin, the Mexican Navy fleet officer.  'We
found her very professional, very well-mannered.'"
       "'It's the same hard job for a woman as it is for a
man,' said Tyson, with a smile, during an interview in her
ship's headquarters."
       "'I have a very good crew.  They are dedicated,' she

THE USA's GULF COAST

       "NATO began its mission to airlift aid to the United
States on Sunday, sending a cargo plane to the Czech
Republic to load up with blankets, camp beds and tents
bound for the stricken Gulf Coast."
       "The converted Boeing 707 was expected to fly the
Czech supplies to Little Rock, Arkansas, on Monday,"
September 12, 2005, "in the first such flight since the 26
NATO allies agreed Friday," September 9, 2005, "to
mobilize planes and ships to rush aid to regions hit by
Hurricane Katrina."
       "'The NATO alliance is ready to do its part in
diminishing' the suffering caused by the hurricane, said
NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Schaeffer.
       "De Hoop Schaeffer said the alliance will need at
least two large transport ships from its elite NATO
Response Force with a capacity to carry 600 military
trucks."
       The Boeing 707 is one of several "aircraft used to
train crews for the alliance's fleet of AWACS surveillance
planes."
       "Two ships from Denmark and Norway were due to load
up with more heavy  cargo for the United States under the
command of the elite NATO Response Force."
       "Once loaded, they are expected to take about 14 days
to cross the Atlantic, said a statement last Saturday,"
September 10, 2005, "from NATO's military command in
southern Belgium.  The ships can carry the equivalent of
600 large trucks."
       "The United States first asked NATO for help on
Sunday, September 4, 2005."
       This was one day after President Bush unilaterally
revoked the Posse Comitatus Act and sent active-duty
regular Army troops from the 82nd Airborne Division and
the 1st Cavalry Division into New Orleans.
       But not everyone in the USA is enchanted with the
idea of armed foreign troops patrolling American streets.
       "This was predicted ten years ago by Mark Koernke
(better known as short-wave radio talk show host Mark from
Michigan--J.T.)," said "Patricia of the Militia," who
added, "I'll bet that's why he's still in jail.  He knew
too much about NATO's long-term plans."
       "So Poppy Junior is giving Texas back to Mexico, and
Louisiana back to France," commented Jim Danvers, "Who do
you suppose is going to get custody of Mississippi, Joe?"
       "That's an easy one--Israel," UFO Roundup editor
Joseph Trainor replied, "Practically nobody in the USA has
ever heard of Theodor Herzl or the book he wrote back in
1904 entitled The Jewish State.  Herzl was a Jewish
journalist from Vienna who covered the anti-Semitic
uprisings in France in 1898 and the Captain Dreyfuss case
during the same period.  It was Herzl who fleshed out the
ideas for a Jewish state in Palestine in his 1904 book.
Herzl also thought his future state would need colonies,
specifically 'farm colonies along the Mississippi River
and the River Plate (Rio de la Plata in Argentina--J.T.).'
I've always wondered what the USA's president at the time
of the book's publication, Teddy Roosevelt, would have
thought about those 'farm colonies in Mississippi.'  But
there's no telling if T.R. ever read Herzl's book."
       "Of course, Mississippi just won't be the same under
Israeli rule.  No more Confederate flags.  No more pretty
girls in Daisy Dukes.  No more good old boys riding around
in pickup trucks with a shotgun on the rack and a hound
dog hanging out the side window.  Just a whole lot of

BILOXI CHURCH SPARED BY
HURRICANE KATRINA

       Jackie Doucette of Gulfport, Miss. pointed out a
strange anomaly of Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed most
of her hometown and Biloxi, Miss. three weeks ago.
       U.S. 90 in Biloxi is known as the heart of "the
Redneck Riviera" and used to have wall-to-wall gambling
casinos, cocktail lounges, strip clubs and other centers
of adult entertainment.  Not any more, though.  Katrina's
record-breaking storm surge of 29 feet (8.8 meters)
demolished every building along that highway.
       Except one.
       "A church I used to attend when I lived in Biloxi--
St. Michael the Archangel (Roman) Catholic Church--is
still standing after the hurricane," Jackie reported,
"While the casinos that surrounded the church were
destroyed.  The church is a circular structure.  It's
located directly across U.S. 90 from the Copa and the
Grand Casinos."
       "A statue of St. Michael the Archangel is located on
top of the church and faces the water (the Gulf of Mexico-
-J.T.)."
       UFO Roundup correspondent Rose Flaherty claims that
Hurricane Katrina was predicted back in 1935--70 years
ago--by a stigmatic nun from Belgium whose case for
canonization is before the Vatican.
       Berthe Petit (1870-1943) was a Third Order Franciscan
nun, born at Enghien, who lived for decades in the
convent.  She had her first vision of Jesus at the age of
four.  Forty years later, on September 3, 1914, Berthe was
again visited by an apparition of Jesus Christ, who asked
her if she would become a "victim soul."
(Editor's Note: Roman Catholics believe that "victim
souls" are saints who willingly share in the suffering of
Christ.)
       Upon her acceptance of the offer, on December 29,
1930,  Berthe began to manifest the stigmata--wounds on
the head, hands and feet approximating those suffered by
Jesus on the cross.
       During this apparition, Jesus warned, "I curse the
arrogant people who slight Me and who persecute the true
faith using My name and authority...It is in the crushing
of this pride that My punishment will be manifested."
       In 1935, Berthe had visions of a monstrous hurricane.
"The human race will have to go through a great storm that
will sharpen divisions among men and reduce their plans to
ashes."
       "As late as May 1938, Mary reappeared with tears on
her face.  Her message concerned the sinful nature of the
world."
       Berthe died in 1943 at the age of 73.  (See Voices,

1930: TOAD IN THE HOLE!

       Two weeks ago, the WB announced that it was retiring
Michigan J. Frog as its network mascot.  (Awwwwww!--J.T.)
So I guess Mich will be returning to his former career of
popping out of courthouse cornerstones and singing old
Broadway show tunes.
       And he's not the only one.
       Toad in the hole! or the embedded toad syndrome is
another long-running weird phenomenon in Forteana.  It
doesn't happen often, but it happens often enough to be
way beyond the realm of coincidence.
       In his 1985 thesis, Toad in the Hole, Fortean
researcher Bob Skinner wrote, "For centuries, reports have
occasionally been made of surprising discoveries of living
animals--particularly toads and frogs--found totally
enclosed within the solid substances of rocks, the trunks
of trees, or deep beds of clay. How such accounts can be
explained, and the truth and accuracy of the observations,
has long been the subject of debate and often of great
controversy."
       "Although the so-called 'Toad in the Hole' or
entombed toad phenomenon is one of the better documented
of unexplained mysteries, and several instances have been
reported in recent years, the majority of people are
unaware of these reports, and no detailed study or
catalogue of cases has been published for more than a
century."
       Here are a few of the more interesting cases Bob
Skinner turned up in that wacky Fortean newspaper, the New
York Times.
       (1) "Cumberland (Maryland), Dec. 23 (1906) - John
Savage, a miner in the Enterprise mine at Buck Hill, a
suburb of Lonaconing, this county, was very much
astonished yesterday, he says, when, in breaking a lump of
coal, a live frog jumped out of it and hopped around his
feet."
       "Savage says the hole in the lump in which the animal
may have snoozed for centuries was not large enough to
allow any room for exercise."
       "Many other miners say they saw the discovery.  The
frog measured six and a half inches (16.25 centimeters).
It lived for some time after it was released."
       Lonaconing, Md. is on Highway 38 about 35 miles (58
kilometers) southwest of Cumberland.
       (2) In the New York Times of March 4, 1928, H.H.
Emmons of Canton, Ohio wrote, "Many years ago, when I was
a young man in Columbiana County, Ohio (about 15 miles or
25 kilometers east of Canton--J.T.), one of the workmen in
a small stone quarry, in splitting a large solid
sandstone, accidentally liberated, in my presence and in
the presence of others, a toad that on being given air and
sunlight, immediately became alive.  This sandstone had
been blasted out from under ten to fifteen (3 to 4.5
meters) of earth, after which it was then split open.  The
imprint of the toad was impressed in the solid sandstone.
The toad had evidently been embedded in the stone for
thousands of years."
       (3) "Marshfield (Oregon), Nov. 16 (1929) - A frog
with claws, found alive fifty feet (15 meters) underground
in a mining claim in the Sixes Mountains has been sent to
the University of Oregon."
       "The head is twice as big as an ordinary frog's and
much out of proportion to the body.  The color of the body
is that of the clay in which it was buried."
       (4) "Oklahoma City, Sept. 29 (1930) - "Three small
toads, estimated by J.B. Thoburn, curator of the State
(Oklahoma) Historical Society, to have been buried in an
Indian mound for at least 300 to 400 years, have been
excavated alive near Gate in Northwestern Oklahoma."
       "Mr. Thoburn found the toads at depths varying from 3
to 4 feet (0.9 to 1.3 meters).  They were brought to the
State Historical Society Museum at the Capitol, but later
may be turned over to biologists of the University of
Oklahoma."
       "'Each of these creatures was found in a dormant
condition, with eyes and lips sealed shut, in a small
cavity in the midst of compact earth,' the curator said."
       "'Within the brief space of a few moments, however,
the eyes opened and the small amphibian recovered its
long-lost ability to hop about with all of the agility of
a toad which always lived in the open.'"
       Gate, Okla. is on Highway 64 about 100 miles (160
kilometers) west-northwest of Enid (Where else?--J.T.).
       (5) "Franklin (Pennsylvania), July 12 (1931) -
"Buried alive in masonry laid sixty-three years ago, a
toad, which workmen say must have been trapped there all
that time, was discovered in demolition operations, hopped
blindly around in the unaccustomed daylight, and twelve
hours later, died."
       "The toad was found yesterday, trapped in a crevice
in the stone steps to the Venango County Court House, to
which an addition is being erected."
       "J.E. Ludwig, the contractor, said those steps were
put in place in 1868.  Close inspection showed that the
toad had no opportunity to find its way into the crevice
after the steps were constructed, he declared."
       Franklin, Pa. is on Routes 322 and 965, located about
40 miles (64 kilometers) north of Pittsburgh.
       While embedded toads have been popping out of rocks
since the Age of Pericles, there has never been a report
of any of them singing My Ragtime Gal.  In that, at least,
Michigan J. Frog is still unique.  (See the New York Times

March 4, 1928, "Tests for toads;" for November 17, 1929,
"Miners find clawed frog;" for September 30, 1930, "Three
toads, buried 300 years, hop when dug out of mound;" and
for July 13, 1931, "Pennsylvanians say toad lived 63 years

Jupiter's Magnetosphere shows signature of the nearest artificial wormhole to
the Hyperspace








Scientists are all on a sudden looking at the Jupiter's Magnetosphere closely
again.

This time though the watchfulness has a different reason, we may have found the
first possible wormhole to the Hyperspace, the Inter-Universe highway.


When the solar wind runs into a planetary magnetic field, the electrons and ions
are deflected around it.

The cavity that the planetary magnet carves out is called a Magnetosphere,
shaped something like a comet, with a long tail.

Like a comet, the tail points away from the sun.

A parabolic shock wave lies upstream, slowing down the solar wind and making it
more turbulent, in a sheath region outside the magnetosphere.


In Jupiter's magnetosphere, the outer curve (nearly a hyperbola) is the bow
shock; the inner curve (almost a parabola) is the edge of the magnetosphere,
called the magnetopause.

The donut-shaped ring is the Io plasma torus.

Io's volcanoes emit over a ton per seond of sulfur dioxide, much of which is
ionized (the electrons are kicked off the neutral atoms) by energetic electrons
trapped in Jupiter's magnetic field.

These plasmas are "spun up" by Jupiter's fast rotation so that the whole system
rotates around with a 10-hour period.

The whole system wobbles back and forth because the magnetic axis is tipped 11
degrees away from Jupiter's spin axis.


Computer models simulating the massive magnetosphere manifest something more
than just the magnetosphere.

It manifests an artificial wormhole with massive electromagnetic flux sources to
keep the wormhole open for travel to and from the Hyperspace.


Even though Jupiter is only slightly bigger than Saturn, its magnetic field is 4
times as big in each dimension.

And Jupiter's magnetic field is ten times the diameter of the Sun! Even though
it is, on average, 5 times farther away than the Sun, Jupiter's magnetic field
would appear roughly twice the apparent size of thesun.


A careful analysis shows that Jupiter's massive magnetosphere really provides
the necessary cover at the wormhole opening.

The Magnetosphere also provides the electromagnetic flux intensity necessary for
maintaining the wormhole there.


According to many scientists, Jupiter's Magnetosphere was enhanced by a type III
alien civilization to create a inter-Universe highway connecting our solar
system to the Hyperspace.

The "thing" with India Daily is - they never seem to say who they are
getting the info from; also you don't get a name for who wrote the article;
no references for further reading etc etc.

In the article below it says: "According to many scientists, Jupiter's
Magnetosphere was enhanced by a type III alien civilization to create a
inter-Universe highway ...." ---- I would be most interested who these "many
scientists" are.

I have looked at a previous article from them, and never found the original
source of the info.

So whats going on with them????


You're safer in my hands -- I have references as to where you can check what
I'm saying about Einstein's Unified Field Theory; worm holes, hyperspace etc
is dealt with in that theory.

Dear André,

We know of your difficulties going forward, and that they increase
with time. You can take that as a sign that you are indeed going
forward. The ancient way to prevail over difficulties is to wear out
the hard part about do ing something, to do them so many times that
they become common and easy. That works for fear, to make fear become
something small. Works with learning new things... You practice them
and then they become easy as pie. Channeling is the main skill for
all light workers. It is the link to HQ, and requires little
training. It is the first and most important skill to develop. Doing
it often and learning to identify the words, the energy you receive,
the feeling, gives you more confidence on your skill with it.

Always command that you receive the Highest. And that you Work with
the Highest and serve Creation on the Highest way available to you at
each moment of your day. Surrender your self will. Love the path you
walk for it is the path of greatest Love existent. Leave attachment
for the ones who have things to do here on earth related to their
self development. Your work here is higher than it seems. Its like a
game, but it is very serious... The negative outcomes from failure
here would be literally of Inter Galactic proportions and would bring
a sorrow greater than any ever experienced on this corner of the
Universe.

Remember always, Attachment has been the downfall of many. The
insistence on keeping personal level relationships with things that
wont last, are the biggest mistake to be made by man, specially on
the scenario about to take place. You will understand and feel the
rage of men when the ground shakes under them and they realize,
finally, that most of what they did was less than they could have
done. And that will stop them from seeing the bigger picture, and
keep them paralyzed in their fear and anger. That is a tool used by
the NWO... "Distract the humans with destruction of their lives while
we manipulate the World Energy Grid with out negative programs" that
is what they plan on doing, and are already doing now. They will
accomplish that. But they will feel the effects more than they
imagine, the part played by men will be greater than they know and

sight is limited and they can only hope that what happens is what
they see - their victory.

Hope has always been in everyone's heart, but with hope there must be
the will to act and bring about a good future. That is what men miss.
They need someone to show them that they can change things and bring
to life what they have in their hearts. They know they can do it but
they are too afraid to believe that they make a difference...

Right now, most of the time, what you can do to help, is show the
special ones you encounter, the ones who you know will hear and need
to hear, let them know that they make a BIG Difference, and that they
have personal power to overcome any difficulties put ahead of them.
Including, more than anything else, the fear they have, because that
fear is of success and a result of negative programming that they
received since birth, on the wallpapers, on the TV shows, on the
cartoons, the comics, the mouth to mouth propaganda that you simply
can't do this or that... that fear is so common and to be embraced.
Obviously that is common "knowledge" more false truths, but they can
be removed. And then they are removed there will be no more
exploitation. Because of that, the NWO protects their image before
anything else. They defend these false truths and the idea that the
world is like it is and that normal people can't change it.

Newsflash for them, the number or aware people increase, even if the
people stay in fear, more and more of them grow aware. Even if it is
late, there is a possibility that the world collective consciousness
notices that they, the masses are really the majority, and the
greater force. And that they have been mistaken all along fighting
each other instead of the governments that put they to fight one
another, like dogs on a fight pit.

Time is short, and there is still much to be done. When you are in
doubt... Calm yourself, center your focus on your will to receive the
Highest, command that this happens. Command and let it happen. Your
will defines what you bring to Creation. Surrender your Will to
Creation and you are one with it. You are Creation in istself. That
is as beautiful as it is rare on this planet. Few serve, and even
those fail because they let themselves get lost. For lack of self
love and value on most times, and they close themselves to Us, and we
can't show them that there is another way to do things, because they
aren't listening anymore. You have stood tight with Us up to now
André. Lets see what else you can take, and if you can bring us your
heat attached to your body and make real all that you agreed to
before being born. You have far more than it takes, no matter what
others say, it is you that have the power to beat them, the most that
they can usually do is try to distract you, and win only if you let
them.

It's important that you have self Love above all else. So that no
matter what happens you still have Love to protect you, and with that
understand that Creation lies within as well as what you perceive as
the outside.

Forward then, aim with confidence and know you can accomplish your
work. But only if you work Now!

West Germany - Video/Battle Of Two Spheroids (Excellent Clear Footage)

HBCC UFO Research Note: When I received the footage and watched it, I was pretty
amazed at what took place in the sky's over West Germany. An object appears out
of no where, and then disappears just as fast. Another object was also seen by
the witness and is shown in the footage, both of the objects looked like they
were in a fight or playing as the witness suggested. This I believe is good
footage of some unknowns.

Date:  February 5, 2005
Time:  11:38 a.m.

On that day I was testing my video camera because I just bought it two days
before. I see a plane in the clear sky and start testing the zoom. There is an
airport half an hour away from my home so I see planes all the time.

I was just looking in the monitor of the camera and not recording it at that
time, then after some seconds I saw a big thing in the sky, just above my house,
appearing from nowhere. It was looking like a big egg but very shiny like gold.
It was very hard on the eyes because of its light reflection.

After a second I just saw another strange object that it was more on the left
and more high then the other one. So, it was two flying objects I can say, and
it was appearing to me like they were fighting or playing with each other.

It was all too fast for about a second or two, then after that, I press the red
button and start recording it.
I watching the video many times, again and again, and I just can say from what I
saw with my own eyes and also from this footage that it was a battle of two
spheroids, and that the darker spheroid was after the light one. Strange things
is happening in these days in our blue sky.

Ucluelet, B.C. (Kennedy Lake) Objects, Burns And Unexplained Marks

Date:  Mid August
Time:  3:20 a.m.

Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: 2
Shape of objects: Two were different, one larger white, other green flashing.

Full Description of event/sighting: My friend called my attention to the sky
South of us, where a bright white round object could be very clearly seen at
least several times wider than the brightest object in the sky. A second light
flashed intermittently white and lime green flashing about each 5-6 seconds for
2-3 seconds per flash. I am a trained military observer having been in the 748th
communications troop in the Armed Forces of Canada. This was not the usual
aircraft flashing green starboard light, as it was lime green, and moved like it
was suspended below the above much brighter white object. The white object moved
in a shallow U shape arc dipping downward then upward, and about twenty seconds
and three flashes of the lower object after we started to watch it, it grew much
brighter and the seemed to pan the cosmos like a motorcycle headlight through
the fog. (Sky was extremely clear and we were 30 km from nearest light source or
town of Ucluelet.)

The light panned from Southwest to West and then straight over the beach we were
camped on and illuminated the entire North shore of the lake. It was so bright
it seemed a huge camera flash had gone off. We both were very excited and later
somewhat frightened.the objects then continued in a slow arc upward and then
suddenly sped away in in a Northeasterly upward arc increasing to extremely
relative high speed and decreased in brightness and were finally not visible
having been observed for 45-60 seconds. the lower object was seen to flash about
seven to eight times and followed the identical arc as the above object, and the
two object were about 5-6 times the widths of a full moon apart.

My friend and I were very excited, perplexed, frightened and had a hard time
falling asleep. I asked immediately what time it was as I wasn't wearing a
watch, and it was 3:20 a.m. I awoke the next day and the first thought through
my head was what the hell did I see last night. I also had no doubt then,
whatsoever, that we are not the most intelligent species here in the Universe.
It deeply effected me. It also troubled my friend and we told others that had
been asleep at the time and camped nearby what we had seen. My mom is quite
conservative, yet I phoned and told her and told her what I had seen, having no
doubt what I had seen and not caring what my mother would think of my telling
her what I saw. (I'm 40 years old).

We told many people and two days afterward someone came to the beach and said it
had been on CNN and was reported in Port Alberni and was also seen in some other
country.

We had no campfire that night and were just about ready to sleep when we saw the
objects. My friend was not himself after for two weeks, being very aggressive
and not his usual passive self. I was not acting like myself afterwards and damn
near got myself in trouble with my sort of "end of the world" attitude.

I noticed that I had a burn on my right calf on the inside and my friend had
several unexplained marks on his legs. It has been two months and my leg hasn't
healed completely. Other injuries I have gotten in the bush that were worse
healed in less than two weeks.

I had thought it strange that when I asked my friend the time, it 3:20 because
we both had to work the next morning and I was sure we retired to our sleeping
bags just after midnight and had seen the objects within fifteen to twenty
minutes of laying down.

We pick edible Chanterelle mushrooms at Kennedy Lake and were not drunk or
altered in consciousness in any way at the time.

I still can't understand why it was so late and where the burn came from as we
wanted to get to sleep early and didn't build a fire after arriving at the lake
at midnight.

When we heard the object was witnessed by others and was on TV we were both very
excited and almost relieved to have the whole thing validated by someone else's
observations. I think it was the 14th or 15th of August.

Las Vegas, Nevada V-Shaped Black Craft

Date:  August 2005 ?
Time:  Approx: 11:00 p.m.

Additional Information: (Just wanted to clarify something, if looked to me as if
it was a wing-shaped craft, or a boomerang shape, a boomerang shape might be the
best description).

Hi, This happened about 1 month ago. I live in Las Vegas in Green Valley. I was
in my backyard at about 11:00pm watering my lawn when I noticed what appeared to
be 5 or 6 stars descending down. They were very similar to stars but slightly
different, I would say they were a little smaller than stars, and the light more
focused.

I quickly realized this was not at all normal and focused all my attention on
this. When I first saw it, the stars were forming something very close to a
circle, but as it descended, the stars were a different shape, as I gather I was
looking at them from a different angle at that point.

They had come straight down as far as I could tell, then they started moving
sideways. At this point I started to make out a shape bigger than the stars,
because as they moved sideways, I could see other stars in the background
disappear and re-appear, and as I watched I could make out what appeared to be a
V-shaped black craft. I then watched this craft move out of my sight. In total I
saw it for about 15 seconds, at which point I could no longer see it.

If it were not for those star like lights, I would not have been able to see it.
It descended right over the mountains here in Las Vegas, and continued on a path
over the mountains, flying right above them. Since it was nighttime it's really
difficult to say how far away this craft was, and it's size, but taking a rough
guess I'd say it was about 2 miles away, and it was gigantic. Extremely
difficult to say for certain, but it was really big, say 300-500 feet in
diameter. It had no sound coming from it whatsoever.

That was my first sighting of a UFO, I only wish I could have gotten a better
look at it.

Hi Brian,

I wish I could tell you an exact date, but I cannot. Like I said, it was about a
month ago, but it could have been 1.5 months or even as long as two months ago.
Now that I think about it, it was probably about two months ago. Sorry, I'm not
that great with time.

I have included a crude map of where I live and the direction I was looking, and
the rough path of the craft. I was looking south, and it was traveling in a
western direction, and I estimate it was right above the tip of the mountain,
flying right directly above the mountain, going in a path along the mountain. It
descended very quickly, as you know it's really super hard to give an accurate
description of speed in the daytime, let alone at night, but taking a rough
guess I'd say it descended down at about 500mph and then immediately flew along
the mountain at the same speed. Lot's of commercial jets landing over at
McCarran Airport fly in the opposite direction the craft was flying, and I see
them all the time, the craft in question was many times larger than these
commercial jets are, say at least 10 times larger, the biggest thing I've ever
seen in the sky before by far. My impression when I first saw it, and watched it
for 15 seconds, was that I had just seen something from "out of this world".
That's the feeling I got from it.

As you can see from the map I've included as an attachment, I'm not that far
from Henderson Executive Airport or the McCarran Airport.

I'm sorry I cannot draw worth a beans, so I won't even try, but you know the
type of black v-shaped craft that is often reported? That's basically what I
saw, or to be more accurate, that's what I "think" I saw, I could barely make
out the outline of the craft, but from what I could see, it looked v-shaped, it
looked very black, and the lights looked as though they were on the bottom of
the craft, and nowhere else, not on it's side or top that I could see, although
I don't think I could see anything on it's top. Again, impossible to say for
certain.

The lights I saw where white, just like stars, but you know how stars kind of
twinkle? These did not twinkle at all, the light was more focused, but looked
very similar to a star, maybe just slightly smaller than a star.

I did not see any other aircraft around it or following it, this thing just
descended from straight up and came straight down very quickly and flew along
the mountain, really cruising, say maybe 500mph, maybe more, hard to say, and I
lost sight of it after about 15 seconds. And that was it, no other aircraft came
flying after it, but I would assume it had just come from "outer space".

I looked over at my neighbors backyard to maybe see if they had seen it too, but
they were not there, so no I do not know of anyone else to saw it. But I got to
tell you, unless you were pretty much looking right in that direction, and
happen to see it as it was descending, I don't think you would have seen it. It
blended so well with the night sky.

I cannot give you much more cause that was pretty much it, what makes me know it
was a UFO is two main reasons. The first one is that this thing descended
straight down, not at an angle, airplanes don't do that. Blimps cannot move
anywhere near as fast as this thing was moving, and it was 2-3 times bigger than
any blimp.

It's hard to describe, but when you see a blimp, or an airplane, or anything
like that you don't get the impression you just saw something out of this world,
but this thing gave me that distinct impression, that what I had just seen was
something much different than anything that I have seen before, both by it's
sheer size, how it was silent, it's ability to descend straight down, it's
apparent shape, and how it just flew off like it did. Another words, it was as
if gravity did not effect this craft, it could descend and then fly away with
ease.

Hey, thanks for even listening, I'm sure you get lots of reports like these, but
for me it's the first time I've ever seen such a thing, and it was a bit
strange, for lack of a better word.

Manitoulin Island, Ontario A White Light Traveling Across The Sky

Date:  September 15, 2005
Time:  Between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m.

Hello there, this is what happened and when. On Thursday September the 15th, I
and a friend were sitting around a small fire in my back yard in the west end of
the Manitoulin Island in Ontario. The time was between 8:30 and 9:00 pm and I
happened to look up and saw a white light going across the sky from west to east
and it was moving faster than a normal plane or jet. There were no flashing
lights on it anywhere. We observed a jet going over about ten minutes and it was
only going about half the speed of the object that we had seen earlier, and all
the flashing lights were visible on it. There were only a few stars out at the
time so I don't think it could of been a satellite. I have never seen any other
light like that go across in that direction or at that speed before.

Cape Meares, Oregon UFO Five Repetitions Of A Light Show

Date:  September 17, 2005
Time:  Approx: 9:00 p.m.

Message: We were on the beach near Cape Meares, OR, shortly after sunset at
about 9:00 p.m. local time, on Saturday night, September the 17th, we were
watching the western sky, focused on the sunset (sunset ahead due west, moonrise
behind, due east).  The sky was clear of clouds except for the distant horizon
(West) which had clouds only at the base of the sky, and behind us there was a
small bank of clouds through which the nearly full moon had just risen.

As we scanned the western horizon above remnants of the sunset, two of us saw 4,
perhaps 5 repetitions of a light show.  We saw a row (once two separate rows) of
very bright yellow-orange lights, large rectangular 'panels' of light perhaps 4
times as tall as they were wide, in a regular horizontal row.  One of these
phenomena involved two rows of lights next to each other, but not in the
same-dimensional plane -- as if there were two objects giving off light that
were not level with each other.  The # of 'light panels' we saw at any given
time varied from three to seven altogether; the time we saw seven there was a
gap or space of darkness which provided a marker and it was as if the lights
were slowly rotating out of sight on the right hand edge.

The lights were out over the ocean, perhaps 3 to 5 miles, about 15 or 20 degrees
above the horizon from our vantage point.  There were no other lights visible
before, during or after we saw these lights (no running lights).  No Sound we
could hear above the surf.  The lights were on, very bright light like looking
through ports into a blast furnace, for 20 to 30 seconds, and they did not move,
remained stationary in the sky, and then they would turn off.  The second set of
lights was WNW or so, then the two sets of lights next to each other again due
West, then WNW again, and finally one light due West down closer to the surface
of the water that I saw with peripheral vision, only briefly.  From one sighting
to the next, the lights appeared in a different part of the sky, but at the same
height, and after a 30 second to 1 minute pause.  We never saw the outlines of
craft, or saw the lights move at all when they were on.  One of those times, my
partner saw the lights reflect off the surface of the ocean, not as if
searchlights, but just that the light was so strong and bright it clearly
reached the water and bounced back up.

All of this happened within a span of 5-7 minutes, then it stopped.

Peru, Indiana Object Seemed To Be Round In Shape

Time:  Approx: 815 p.m.

Hello Brian,

This was captured on 9/17/05 around 8:15pm.  The object was apparently round
from what I can tell.  The color seems to be a bluish, whitish in color.  I was
standing at the back door with cam in hand waiting to see if I would see
anything that night and wham, there it was right above my house.  At first I
thought it was a plane then it took me a second or two to figure that it was not
a plane.  So, I captured it then it seems just to disappear.  This was captured
in Peru, IN.  P.S.  it was a full moon that night not that it mattered lol.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City 3 Red Objects

Date:  September 18, 2005
Time:  3:50 p.m.

At ~3:50pm EST today (9/18) I stepped outside onto the back porch with my newly
acquired 8x Bushnell binoculars. Note that this was almost exactly the same time
of day that I had my first sighting. Conditions were similar - sun shining
slightly to the southwest and for the most part a clear day - very few clouds.
Lo and behold what did I see - the same object I saw about 10 minutes before I
noticed the 3 red objects (photo) last week. Holding my binoculars up - it
exhibited the same behavior - heading southeast and it seemed to change shape.
Forgive my description, but as far as I could tell it seemed to change from a
bright white circle into a thin red stick type object.

It did this about 5 times a minute again in that lava lamp type movement. The
red and white seems to suggest that this is similar to the objects I saw last
week. It's movement was quite slow and I was able to track it with my binoculars
quite easily. I wish I had a powerful zoom lens to photograph it. I'd be willing
to bet that if I stood in Brooklyn at 3:50pm tomorrow I'd be able to witness the
same object.

Given the consistent time and slow speed of the object, I'm leaning towards some
kind of manmade object - but who knows? You're the expert here. ;) I hope the
description I provided will give you some clue as to the true nature of the
object(s) I saw. Thanks for your help and for reading this super lengthy email.
Please let me know if you come to any conclusions.

Lake Geneva Wisconsin Four Bright Orange Lights

Date:  September 18, 2005
Time:  8:00 p.m.

Message: Tonight while I was at work, 9/18 in Lake Geneva Wisconsin, I was
called outside by three customers.  There were four bright orange lights spread
out throughout the sky.  They stayed pretty steady just slightly moving for
about 10 minutes.  After about ten minutes they all began moving toward each
other and met up with each other directly overhead within 1 minute.  Once
together they went one by one higher and higher until they were out of sight. 
It took approx five minutes until the forth one went up and was gone.  There was
a plane flying by as the 4 had come together and was much lower than the lights.
When I went back inside, there were four more workers who said customers came
inside and saw the same thing the night before.  Both nights were perfectly
clear, the first night they were around about 9:00pm, then back around midnight.
Tonight they were around at about 8:00pm.

Between Langford & Victoria, B.C. Object Follows Aircraft

Time:  2:30 a.m.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was laying in bed looking at the stars out
of the sliding door when I saw an airplane come from behind the trees, and then
I noticed a white orb following it. I immediately woke my husband. The plane had
typical flashing lights.  The orb did not flash and was larger and much brighter
than the airplane. Twice it seemed to go a slightly faster than the plane, but
seemed to keep pretty much the same distance between the plane and itself. 
(Much like when you are following a friend on the road because they know the
destination location and you don't). We watched it follow the plane until it was
out of sight. We look at the sky often as we are astronomy buffs. This was not a
weather balloon or a second airplane.

Additional Information:

Hello Brian,

Weather:  Clear, no clouds that we could see. No rain, no fog. Estimate of
temperature for 2:30 AM was about 10 degrees Celsius. We did step out onto the
balcony to get a better view of the object and felt no wind.  Just a calm night.

Altitude of airplane: Really hard to say as it was not flying directly over our
house.  Looked like a normal altitude where we see most planes flying. Sorry but
can't answer that question any more honestly than that.

Altitude of object following airplane: Same altitude as plane. The object was
about the width of 3-4 baby finger widths behind the airplane.

Where were the airplane and object located? We are located by Goldstream
Provincial Park which is about 10 KM Northwest of the city of Victoria.  We were
looking in the direction of Victoria. We were looking to the South. There is a
high tower with a red light on it on the top of a small mountain and it was over
this mountain that we saw the object and the airplane. I would guess about 2
baby finger widths above the horizon. I would say that the Airplane and the
object were flying in a West to East direction.

Was the object trying to keep pace with the object? Yes, That was our feeling.
It seemed to want to keep the same distance between itself and the Airplane.

Describe the area where the sighting took place, airport etc:  The closest
airport would be the Victoria International Airport which is located near the
small city of Sidney BC at the end of the Saanich Peninsula about a 30 minute
drive North from Victoria.  The plane was not flying towards that airport.  We
think it was flying towards the United States.  Perhaps on its
way to Tacoma International Airport (near Seattle, Washington State). The land
around the sighting would be partly populated and partly forest.  There is a
large naval base (Department of National Defence) situated next to the city of
Victoria (in Esquimalt). Comox Air and Naval base is a long way from here. We
are located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

Trail or tail following the object? No just a very bright sphere or orb. The
light was white.

Any sound? We stepped out onto the balcony but heard no sound.

We thought that this was indeed an unusual sight and I wish we had more
information for you.  If anyone else has reported seeing this in our area could
you let us know?  If you have more questions please feel free to email.

hole on the other side.

That way you could end up in some other corner of our universe, or in the
future, or in another universe altogether.


But do white holes really exist?


No one has ever seen one, although astronomers once thought quasars -- the
brightest objects in the universe, which shine at the centres of some galaxies
-- might be white holes.

Now they believe that quasars are the glow of hot matter and radiation swirling
around super-massive black holes.


White holes are black holes running backwards in time.

This means they violate one of the pillars of classical physics: the second law
of thermodynamics, which states that order can turn into disorder, but never the
other way round.

If a piano falls into a black hole and gets crushed, that's fine. If a white
hole spits out a piano from nowhere, something has gone wrong.

But that's just in classical physics.

In the quantum world, things are never so black and white.


It is just possible that our whole universe might be
one giant white hole.

How so?

Well, if the singularity at the centre of a black hole lies in the future,
representing a final state, the singularity of a white hole lies in the past, as
a beginning, as in the big bang.

So, if our universe is a white hole, the big question is: is there a black hole
universe on the other side of the big bang?

And if there is, how will we ever know?

The Progress M-54 cargo spacecraft (factory number 354) was launched by
Soyuz-U from Baykonur on Sep 8 and docked with Zvezda at 1442 UTC on Sep
10. Progress M-53 undocked from the Zvezda module at 1026 UTC on Sep 7
into a 350 x 351 km orbit; it fired its deorbit engine at 1326 UTC to
lower perigee to 56 km, leading to reentry over the Pacific half an
orbit later.

The next Shuttle flight is delayed indefinitely - engineers don't
yet understand the aerodynamic data from the last flight. Damage to the
External Tank manufacturing facility in New Orleans was less that
feared, and ET work will continue there.


Kosmos-2415
-----------

As expected, Kosmos-2415 entered its operational mapping orbit of
205 x 284 km x 64.9 deg on Sep 3.

Anik F1R
---------

International Launch Services orbited a Proton-M/Briz on Sep 8 carrying
the Anik F1R communications satellite.

Telesat Canada inaugurated Canada's domestic satellite communications
service with the launch of Anik A1 in 1972. The first two 5-tonne
Anik F satellites were launched in 2000 and 2004 using Boeing 702
satellites; Anik F1 has been experiencing solar panel power problems.
Anik F1R is an Astrium Eurostar 3000S operating in C-band and Ku-band.

The Proton-M flew a suborbital trajectory; the Briz made one burn to low
parking orbit and four more burns to a  3171 x 35608 km x 10 deg
deployment orbit. Anik F1R then separated to being using its own engine
to reach geostationary orbit.


Haybusa
-------

Hayabusa is completing its rendezvous with asteroid Itokawa.
On Sep 12 it began hovering at the 20 km "gate position".
It will descend to 7 km in October.

Streak
------

DARPA's Streak classified research satellite, also called
STP-R1 under the USAF's Space Test Program, was launched by Minotaur
  from Vandenberg on Sep 23. The satellite carries experimental
sensors to study the orbital environment and is in a sun-synchronous
orbit.


POPPY
-----

The NRO has declassified the existence of the Naval Research Lab's POPPY
signals intelligence satellites. POPPY were probably small spherical
(later,
ellipsodal?) satellites, derived from the Vanguard spheres used for the
predecessor program GRAB/DYNO. NRO says it will release pictures, but
that hasn't happened yet: I predict POPPY will look like the GGSE
satellites
as seen here: <P><IMG

They were launched in clusters together with other small NRL satellites
on Thor Agena D rockets. POPPY flew from 1962 to 1971, followed by the
still-classified PARCAE program which began in 1976 and used triplets of
satellites for radio interferometric measurements of signal locations.
The GRAB satellites were 0.51m in diameter like Vanguard; POPPY may have
been the same size initially and then increased to 0.61m in diameter. In
fact, the early POPPY satellites may have been leftover GRAB vehicles,
with the code name change simply due to the transfer of the GRAB mission
  from NRL to NRO in mid-1962. The RAE Tables indicate the shift to 0.61m
diameter happened with the first POPPY launch, but I'm not sure RAE is a
reliable source in this particular context.

Despite the declassification of POPPY, it's still not clear which
satellites were POPPY satellites. Here I put down my own guesses,
but mainly I point out that things are confused. Comments welcome.

The POPPY fact sheet says that "A total of seven POPPY satellites
launched into space from 1962 to 1971", and gives the seven launch
dates. This implies that only one POPPY satellite went up on each
of the seven launches.

For the time being I am assuming that this is false and that it should
read "There were a total of seven launches in the POPPY program from
1962 to 1971". The followon program starting in 1976 involved multiple
satellites, and the final POPPY launch in 1971 consisted of four
apparently identical satellites.

The alternate possibility is that one of the four 1971-110 payloads was
a POPPY and the other three were something different. That's not
impossible, but I'd be surprised.

On the assumption, then, that each launch might have multiple POPPY
satellites, let's try and identify them. For each launch I list at the
bottom of this all objects noted in the US Space Command SATCAT as
payloads, and their SATCAT names. I also list the satellites listed for
that launch date in a summary of NRL-launched spacecraft from the Naval
Center for Space Technology; there's no mapping given between those
names and the international designations (e.g. NRL 130 is one of the
1963-021 objects but we don't know which one). There are also blatant
inconsistencies between the two sources - for instance, on 1963-021
"Dosimeter" and "PL 112" are separate satellites in the NCST list, in
contrast to 1963-021D "RADOSE 112" which suggests the two are the same
radiation dosimeter satellite.

Nevertheless, we can make some guesses. Look at the NCST listings, and
accept my guess that the last POPPY launch is the quartet of payloads
171-174, listed by NCST as gravity gradient experiments with masses of
123 to 128 kg. Then notice that the 1969-082 launch has similar payloads
161-164 with masses of 100-103 kg; and that 1967-053 has payloads 151
and 153 listed interspersed with GGSE 4 and 5:

I'm guessing the GGSEs here are PL152 and PL154, completing the
quartet. Published papers show they had different boom configurations.
Now I'm guessing that the GGSE (Gravity Gradient Stabilization
Experiment) series was linked to POPPY; that POPPY flights
were gravity-stabilized and GGSE was used to improve them. GGSE satellites
may be modified POPPY satellites with no ELINT payload, or may
be fully functional POPPY with the GGSE test as an add-on experiment.

So working further back, in the previous launch (launch 4) there's no
quartet,
but we can look at a number of candidates: the classified statellites,
the GGSE satellites, and the Solrad satellites.

Solrad satellites are possibilities because they were used in the GRAB
(GREB) program, but I note that in the SATCAT the GREB name is given to
PL 135 and PL142, not to SR VIIA and SR VIIB, so probably there was
no room in a 24-inch sphere for both the POPPY and SR payloads and the
programs were separated at the beginning of the POPPY program.
What can we make of the SATCAT calling PL142 "GREB 6"? Maybe the
Launch 1 and Launch 2 POPPY flights were initially called GRAB (or GREB)
5A and 5B, following on from the last known SR IVB flight of GRAB.

I'll advance the following hypotheses:

   - Hypothesis 1.  All the above satellites were POPPY or, in the
     case of GGSE, POPPY-related.

-  Hypothesis 2: The POPPY satellites were SR VI, SR VIIA, SR VIIB,
     continuing the GRAB/SOLRAD cover story. The Dec 1962
     launch was one or both of PL120 and PL121, with the other one perhaps
being
     a thermal control experiment ("BLACK SPHERE" in the SATCAT;
     the "SURCAL 1" in the SATCAT is assumed to be an error, since
     SURCAL 1 was lost in a Jan 1962 launch failure). It's also possible
     that "BLACK SPHERE" and "CALSPHERE 1A" are really the same satellite.
     Both PL120 and PL121 had a mass of 55 kg, the same as GRAB.

-  Hypothesis 3: After the GRAB program ended, the SOLRAD series
     became fully scientific because POPPY needed a whole satellite to
     itself and couldn't share. The GGSE satellites weren't related
     to POPPY. The POPPY satellites were
     PL120 and PL121; PL112; PL135; and PL142. I still think
     that PL 151/153, PL 161-164, PL171-174 were POPPY group flights.
     The role of PL176 (1962-082B) is still a mystery; it was a smaller
     (23 kg) NRL satellite that operated for 2 years.

-  Hypothesis 4: the POPPY satellites aren't any of the ones listed
     here, but were packages which remained attached to the Agena rocket
     stages. This would let you have a single POPPY on the 1971-110 launch
     separate from the confusion of the four identical payloads; but
     I find it unlikely.


Right now, my best guess is Hypothesis 3.

Jennifer Love Hewitt's 'Ghost'

NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2005



(CBS) In the new CBS drama "Ghost Whisperer" Jennifer
Love Hewitt plays Melinda Gordon, a young newlywed
desperate to lead a normal life.

But it's not easy because she also has the ability to
see, talk, and help departed spirits seeking closure.

In the premiere episode, the ghost of a lost soldier
contacts Melinda. The show is based on the experiences
of a "real-life ghost buster," Love Hewitt tells The
Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm. "She is a
consultant on the show. We went ghost busting in L.A.
together."

The medium actually went to Love Hewitt's 1927 house
and found two ghosts, a man and a woman.

"If you start feeling very lethargic and you have
throat problems or really bad headaches, a lot of
times that can sometimes mean there is nothing wrong
with you physically, but also that you have a ghost,"
says Hewitt.

"They're drawing on your energy. They draw on your
upset, on your stress, on your tired, on your
emotional and whatever else is going on with you at
the time. Because they pull your energy, you feel like
you're sick."

Thankfully, Hewitt says, they are now gone.

"She basically asked them if they were ready to go and
sort of had this conversation. She talks with them
basically, like, in my living room. Then she crossed
them over to the light. And I have not had one thing
since."

And though Hewitt says she is not sure if this is true
or not, she does the same in her show.

"It is about the human spirit," she says. "Each show
consists of incredible stories that will inspire
people to go live their lives so they don't have any
unfinished business. This show teaches viewers not
take anything for granted."

UFO enthusiast shares his beliefs
San Leandro man puts aliens in public eye

NUMEROUS times a year for the last decade, one man has
stolen the show during U.S. Congressman Pete Stark's
San Leandro town hall meetings.
And it's not Pete Stark.

The routine is the same each time. Anyone who wants to
comment is assigned a random number. Stark, D-Fremont,
selects the numbers one by one, and eventually happens
upon a UFO enthusiast who tries to convince the crowd
that aliens are on Earth.

William Roderick of San Leandro is wild about UFOs.

The 39-year-old is convinced that if people are not
warned of potential space perils, they will not be
able to defend themselves.

"I go to Pete Stark's meetings to let people know that
the Star Wars program designed in the 1970s exists
only because we have hostile aliens that come to the
planet every day and stuff," Roderick said, "and our
government is trying to combat them."

Roderick's system of beliefs mixes what he calls
"UFO-ology" with Christianity.

Some meeting regulars smile when they see the
eccentric man with shoulder-length curly black hair
and baseball cap. Others grimace. Stark is courteous.

During a meeting last week, the congressman amiably
interrupted Roderick's speech about the current
administration's UFO deception and asked, "Are you
going to vote to get Bush and the Republicans out?"

Roderick paused.

"Yes," he said.

"That's what I need to hear," Stark said, laughing
kindly. With that, he proceeded to the next subject
and Roderick sat down.

Roderick wanted to say more but was pleased overall
that he got to share his message again.

"That day I did what I had to do," Roderick said.
"It's good to get people prepared for the unknown and
stuff. I'd say yes, Pete Stark is fair in his manners.
At least he shows a little interest and support. He's
not like all the people who ostracize me."

Mean people: one of Rodericks's many problems. This
life has not been easy for him.

"I'm mostly disturbed and stuff by people saying,
'Shut up, we don't want to hear you, you freak.' That
would bother anyone," Roderick said. "You'd be
offended too. We have the right as human beings to
share our opinions."

Roderick's beliefs are based on the Bible, UFO
research and most of all, a UFO video that he says
aired on Channel 44 in the late 1990s. He's watched it
15 times.

"I believe I have enough substantial information that
I've gathered since my youth to give people tangible
answers, if they'll let me," Roderick said. "There are
a lot of people who study this topic but when we tell
the truth, we're looked at like we're nut jobs."

Roderick is extremely creative, funny and intelligent,
but was placed in special education classes his whole
life. He has a severe mental disorder that he does not
want disclosed, and he becomes frustrated when people
think his belief in extraterrestials is the result of
his illness.

"This disability I'm underneath, it's kind of
embarrassing," he said. "People who grow up in special
education are looked on as stupid, but there are some
who are highly intelligent. It was God who designed my
life this way, so I should try to accept it. But yes,
I feel I've been deprived."
Roderick lives with his mother. They've moved all over
the Bay Area and have lived in San Leandro for 15
years.

Roderick gave scant information about his long-gone,
abusive father. When asked about him. Roderick
collected his thoughts for a moment and said, "There
are two kinds of parents. The parents who want kids
and the kind who really, really don't."

When asked if that is true of his mother, he said with
a coy smile, "Like the government, I can neither
confirm, nor deny. This I can say though: She thinks
I'm a screwball kid just like how your parents might
think about you."

She seems to enjoy her son but gets annoyed with his
UFO obsession.

Roderick often talks about nonhostile and
"super-hostile" aliens on Earth. The aliens in the
silver uniforms are docile. The aliens in the black
uniforms? Watch out!

Using a gun against them is virtually pointless,
Roderick said, but reflecting their deadly laser beams
back with a mirror will be extremely effective.

According to him, man never walked on the moon.
Digital technology and fiber optics were developed by
aliens. The U.S. government is keeping space knowledge
secret as it races to copy alien technology and
eventually conquer the universe.

Although Roderick has mental problems, none of his
beliefs are much stranger than those of the average
devout Christian, he said.

"UFO-ologists spend years studying, just like
theologians," he said. "When people call me names, it
shows me that they lack open- mindedness and
compassion. How can so many Christians have faith in
Jesus Christ, who they can't see, but not in something
as potentially substantial as UFO-ology?"

Roderick's greatest dream is to find a girlfriend who
shares these beliefs, but if she doesn't, that's okay.


"If she likes me and we get along, it's her choice to
not believe in UFOs. I mean, what could I do, grab her
by the neck and say, 'You have to believe this.' You
know, you've got to be fair.

"If I found a woman who was nice to me and who I got
along with, that would be the greatest treasure and
I'd never let go."

Roderick says he's not exactly lonely, but he does
long to be understood, and every time someone lets him
talk about UFOs, "it's a great blessing" in his life.

All eyes on skies in UFO search

STARGAZERS across Yorkshire will be on the look out
for little green men when they join fellow fanatics
across Britain for a mass UFO hunt.
The first British UFO hunters' skywatch will take
place late in the evening of Saturday October 1 and is
being organised by Scarborough UFO fanatic Russell
Kellett.
The event takes place on the same day as the first
Great British UFO Show at Headingley Stadium, although
the two events are not linked.
The skywatch will see enthusiasts staging a
co-ordinated search for UFOs from dusk until the early
hours of the following morning.
Individual
There are several official points around the UK but
people all across the country are being urged to get
involved.
Mr Kellett said: "You do not have to leave your home
to take part, you can do so from your own back garden,
in a park or out on the moors.
"It's entirely up to each individual and you do not
even have to be a member of the British UFO hunters to
take part in the skywatch. But we want anybody who
sees anything to report their sightings."

An official document that surfaced in the 1980s states that a living
alien was, in fact, retrieved from a crashed saucer-shaped craft in
1949 and was reputed to have survived for a number of years. The
authenticity of this document has never been proven but it states
that the alien was given the title EBE 1 (Extraterrestrial
Biological Entity) and suffered chronic health problems. EBE 1
seemingly died on June 18 th, 1957 and during the period of seven
