He has been videographer, historian, librarian, editor and publisher of the newsletter The ENIGMA, president and board member for the UFO Study Group, and has served as State Director of Public Information and Education as well as assistant State Director of Investigations for Missouri MUFON, as well as serving as a field investigator for Missouri MUFON. In 1995, Joseph, also a film producer, started his company Dream Masters Studios. In 1996, Joseph went on an expedition to Puerto Rico to investigate Chupabacras. He then produced the documentary "Chupacabras! The Legend Begins", portions of which aired in a documentary on vampires for The Discovery Channel in October 2005. Joseph Palermo is currently featured on Monster Quest which appears on the History Channel. Palermo contributed rare, forensic evidence of the PR Chupacabra for the show.
