I have used URL Manger Pro for a very long time.
I can't remember browsing the web without it.
I know I used it with MacOS 8, and maybe with system 7.5.5?
I am one of those individuals who is addicted to the Shared menus.
So far I am still using a PPC Mac so I can use that.
I am glad you are working on an Intel version and I hope you are able to
incorporate the Shared menus in that.
The life of this machine is growing short and I am a stubborn old man who likes
to keep certain conveniences if possible.
I recently upgraded to Leopard and all is doing well in Camino.
I tried to upgrade to Camino 2.0, but that broke the Shared menus so I have
reverted to Camino 1.6.10
Thank You for an excellent product.
Cheers, Denny

Alco:
Great news for us URLMP fans! Thank you so much for the update, and I hope your
SMS app can pass quickly through the "app blessing". I have been reading about a
lot of complaints from developers lately on Apple needing to change their
process for approving apps for the store.
Good luck, and thanks again!

Hi Rodney,
Again I have been terribly delayed. Most of these delays are related
to the SMS Mac software and iPhone development. Apple refused my
iPhone SMS app in June and this has caused delays.
However, I will absolutely release an Intel version of URL Manager Pro
this first half of next year.
Thanks.

Could you give us an update on the status of URLMP?
Specifically, do you have an idea when you will be able to release an intel
version of the product?
You have created a wonderful product here, and we all want to continue to use it
and see more enhancements to it.

I too am now using URL Manager Pro on Snow Leopard now and it apparently is
working.
At least the one time I tried searching and then adding a bookmark from Safari
it seemed fine.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and URL Manager does work. However, I noticed
one odd behavior:
When using Safari, if I select "Add Bookmark.." from the URL Manager Pro menu
bar, the URL window for adding the bookmark doesn't appear over Safari. I have
to switch to the URL Manager application where I do see the window for adding
the bookmark. This behavior doesn't happen when using Firefox.

Does the same go for Web Confidential - does it continue to run on
Snow Leopard?

Back in July you mentioned you would be working on updating URLMP.
Any chance you could give us a timeline?
Also, is there a future plan to have mobileme support, so we can share between
our desktop, laptop, and iPhone?
Thanks in advance,

Dear Users,
What Benoit writes is totally correct. You need to install Rosetta.
However, the process is almost totally transparent. Once you launch
URL Manager Pro, Mac OS X will ask you to install Rosetta.
I did some quick tests and URL Manager Pro seems to run fine on Snow
Leopard.
Thanks.

It will probably work but we will have to wait for news from Alco or
from someone who tries it out.
As far as Rosetta is concerned, it appears that there is an option to
install it when you install Snow Leopard but you must go to the extra
options to do. It does not install automatically.
Also, I saw one review of Snow Leopard that says if you do not install
Rosetta intially and download a program that needs it, the system will
tell you that you need to install it.

Hi. I just posted this message but I don't see it so I'm trying again.
Snow Leopard (OS 10.6) goes on sale today and I'm hoping to buy a copy soon.
However, one reason I'm waiting is I'd like to know if URL Manager Pro works in
Snow Leopard under Rosetta, the way it works in Leopard (OS 10.5).
URL Manager Pro is probably among my five most important apps, so I'm really
hoping it works in Snow Leopard.
If you've tried it in Snow Leopard, please post your experience here.
Thanks.

Hi. Snow Leopard (OS 10.6) goes on sale today and I'm hoping to buy a copy soon.
However, one reason I'm waiting is I'd like to know if URL Manager Pro works in
Snow Leopard under Rosetta, the way it works in Leopard (OS 10.5).

hoping it works in Snow Leopard.
If you've tried it in Snow Leopard, please post your experience here.

Agreed from my end, as well; with Safari, I can add bookmarks to URLM
Pro with one click, just as I once could with Firefox prior to v3.
Alco: Thanks from me as well for looking at updating the software,
and I guess you're aware that the bookmark adding issue has been
discussed a bit on this user group site?
Bye for now!

Dear Users,
URL Manager Pro does have a future.
Actually, just last week I have made a strategic decision to try to
bring new life
to URL Manager Pro and Web Confidential.
With regard to URL Manager Pro, the most urgent issues are:
a) release of version 3.5
b) support for Safari 4
c) Intel version
NB: the Firefox issue is a very complicated one. With regard to
bookmarking the web sites
you browse in Firefox, the problem is broken AppleScript support in FF
3. Import of FF 3
bookmarks is also complicated, because of the sql format it uses.
With regard to Web Confidential, the most urgent issues are:
a) Intel version
b) Web Confidential for iPhone
In June, I was indeed in California to attend Apple's World Wide
Developer's Conference (WWDC)
in San Francisco.
Thank you,
Alco Blom.
I too had heard that he was ill but I believe that was a year or so
ago. Based on his flicker account, he was in California the middle of
last month and Amsterdam later in the month. So, he can't be terribly
ill, thankfully.
The SMS program has also been around for a few years, however,
according to VersionTracker, it had an update come out on June 10th of
this year so he must still be programming.
Beginning to look more and more like he is un-interested in updating
URL Manager but I hope I am wrong.

Actually they are both still installed. I did export WC content and import
into 1Password with no problems, tho am still shuffling organization of the
logins around.
Someone said in another post that Alco really understands organization, and
I agree completely. I'd love nothing more than to stay with WC and
URLmanager, but the Mac world has changed, and they haven't.
Alco was very ill for a while, so it may be that he just lost energy to keep
these two excellent programs going. 'Tis a shame.

FWIW, the program SMS Mac isn't new. It's been around for more than
a year. Alco may very well have health problems. He had hinted at
that some years back when I exchanged emails with him. But I haven't
heard from him at all recently.

Okay I sent an email asking him to post in the groups and give an

Maybe he just hasn't anything to report new for the products
URLM Pro was based on Bookmark system but the new FireFox and SeaMonkey
use sqlite. Maybe URLM Pro doesn't translate to sqlite.

OMG. I can't believe it. If he is just interested in something new,
I am so disappointed that he is letting URLMP and Web Confidential
die. I don't understand that when he has 2 outstanding products.
Maybe I'll try writing him but I don't think it would do any good. He
already knows about all us fans here. I wish he would tell us here
what is going on. Alco?

He has another Product out (or at least under his name)
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/smsmac/
on that page is a link to his email address.
Maybe you can contact him by email and find out whats going on.

My guess is that Alco is very ill. I think he would update URLMP if
he could. A shame for him and URLMP. I have tried BookDog which does
not measure up. However, the programmer, who is very diligent and
responsive, says he is working on something new and better. So maybe
down the road. http://sheepsystems.com/products/bookmacster/

Or someone could by the rights to URL Manager Pro and continue its
development. It seems to me that Alco no longer is interested in
developing, or has other issues that prevent him from devoting his full
time to development.

I have looked at AllBookmarks, Webnote Happy and Delicious. NONE of
them comes anywhere close to URL Manager Pro.
I have always been rather surprised that Alco Bloom has been the only
developer who really understands what functions are needed to
effectively save, organize and manage large collections of bookmarks.
When Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) comes out, we will be able to
install the optional Rosetta support and continue using URLMP for a
few more years.
I hope Alco Bloom will be able to write an Intel version of the program.
If anyone in this group has Mac programming experience on the Intel
platform and could help Alco, PLEASE contact him.

I use URLM mainly to clean up my bookmarks...it gets rid of dups and
validates easily = does Delicious or any other method do that?
That's the functionality I want. A way to clean up and clean out
urls.

I just launched URLM for the first time in ages, to refresh my memory
of its option. Wow, URLM has a few funky rendering issues on my
newest Mac. Still, it mostly works.
Of course, URL Manager lets you export all or some of your bookmarks,
in several different formats. HTML is the most universally standard
format, and it includes your "note" aka "description". Most other
bookmarking tools (including web browsers and Delicious) let you
import from an HTML bookmarks file (if nothing else).
In the case of Delicious, it looks at all the nested folders in which
your bookmark was saved, and tags that imported bookmark with each of
those folder names. Their example = A bookmark in your "recipes"
folder inside your "household" folder will be tagged both "household"
and "recipes." You can see all their import options and instructions
here:
https://secure.delicious.com/settings/bookmarks/import
(you'll need to sign up for a free account to see this page)
It's been so long since I switched, I can't remember if Delicious
imported my "notes" into it's "description" field, or not. Imports
on the Delicious 1.0 were incredibly slow, but I've since used
Delicious 2.0 to import 8000 bookmarks (when I moved a public account
over to a private one) and it was smooth and easy.
Whatever tool you use, I recommend sticking to one that exports to a
universally recognized format, so you're feel to move you bookmarks
any time. Delicious exports you bookmark (title, URL, tags and
notes) to an HTML file. In fact, I'm gonna export a backup copy
right now, while I'm thinking of it.
