Dear utPLSQL user,
As you may (or may not) have noticed, utPLSQL has been slowly but surely
moving from being "Steven's pet thingie" (as he has described it) to being
a proper open source project.
The biggest change from a project management perspective is that the code
is now held in CVS at SourceForge, rather than by Steven. This means that
anyone can grab the latest version and start hacking away. To actually
merge in your changes, you'll need to send them to the project admins at
utplsql-admin@.... However, if you produce lots of good
contributions, we'll give you commit access to CVS or make you a project
admin.
Another change that is only slowly happening is a cultural one. We need
to start thinking of the code as being owned by the community, not by
Steven. If you think things could be done a better way, let's hear about
it. If a majority agree, then we'll go for it. Just because the code was
originally written by a "PL/SQL expert" doesn't mean it can't be improved.
So, with the code freely available and owned by the community, all we need
now are some volunteers. About 95% of the code has been written by
Steven, so we could do with a few more people making their mark on it.
Take another look at the task list on SourceForge. There are lots of
things to be done, some of which have been only recently added. If one
catches your eye, let us know and get coding, just don't all rush at once
;-)
