Qute 1.1.3 ready for testing!   Message List

Dear Qute tester,

Qute 1.1.3.0 is now available for downloading through the normal means ( http://www.unit-test.com/download.php ) or by clicking on this direct link URL.

Qute 1.1.3 implements a number of important enhancements that users have been requesting, such as the ability to use the Add Test Case wizard even after the initial test definition has been created. We have also greatly improved test case generation.

To install or upgrade, simply download the software and run the QuteInstall1130.exe file. You can install Qute 1.1.3 on top of earlier releases; your test definitions will not be modified. Remember, however, that is PRE-PRODUCTION SOFTWARE. If you have built critical test packages, export them before performing the upgrade. If you do encounter any problems with upgrades or imports, please let us know immediately.

Next steps for Qute

As many of you have probably heard or read in a previous message, Qute has been acquired by Quest Software. This is very good news for PL/SQL developers, because it means that I will have more resources available to improve Qute. We are planning very diligently now for the production release of Qute, and I will have more news for you soon, but I would like to share the following with you now:

  • Quest will offer free, trial and licensed versions of Qute. Pricing is still not set. The free version will be constrained in one or more ways. One idea is to limit the number of test definitions you can store in the repository (perhaps to 10 or 20). Please let me know if you have any opinions on that.
  • I will be setting up a much more intensive beta program shortly. This program will be limited to those developers who commit to intensive testing of the tool (not just using it to test their own code). If you would like to participate in the Qute Beta Program or have any questions about it, get in touch as listed below.

Please report any bugs or requested features through one of these options:

1. Visit http://www.unit-test.com/contact.php and fill in the form.
2. Register at the Qute forum, http://www.unit-test.com/phpBB2, and then enter your idea or problem there.
3. Send an email to support@....

Warm regards,
Steven Feuerstein

New/Fixed in Qute 1.1.3.0

  • The Add Test Case wizard is now available not only when you create a new test definition, but also to add test cases to an existing unit test and to add new unit tests to an existing definition.
  • Test case generation is now greatly enhanced with user-selectable and definable "interesting values" that allow you to tightly control (and name) the permutations of argument input values.
  • Qute can now be used to test programs that participate in two-phase commits. Autonomous transactions will no longer be executed to store test results.
  • You can now create test definitions for programs with XMLType arguments.
  • All customization sections are now based on CLOBs, removing restrictions of 4000 characters for this code.
  • Exports of very large test definitions can now be imported without causing "program too large" errors.
