November, 2000, at 2:00 pm in the Anthropology Lab (HSS 3.02.52) All members
of the UTSA community with an interest in Anthropology are encouraged to
attend and to join the club.

TRINITY LECTURE
Thursday, 16 November 2000-- "Recent Fieldwork at Sardis, The City of
Croesus." Dr. Nick Cahill, U. of Wisconsin, will discuss ongoing
archaeological research on public and private areas of this capital of the
Lydian Empire in western Turkey. Research has looked at spectrum of
occupation from 6th century B.C. through Roman period of 4-6th centuries AD.
Recent work has concentrated on a fortification of the period of Alyattes
and Croesus and on its destruction at hands of Cyrus of Persia in 546 B.C.
A royal cemetery and public building dating from 6th Century B.C. have also
been explored.
This lecture is sponsored by the Southwest Texas Archaeological Society. It
will be held in the Chapman Auditorium at Trinity University at 7:30 pm and
