It has come to my attention that there is some confusion about the
"six-year rule" for graduate students in MA programs at UTSA. The
six-year rule is a University policy (outlined in your graduate catalog)
that stipulates the time frame within which graduate students must
complete their MA degrees. Should more time be necessary, students must
petition the faculty in their program in order to receive an extension.
Anthropology follows University policy on the six-year rule. We encourage
our students to finish in a timely fashion, but also understand that there
can be many unanticipated delays. We therefore evaluate student petitions
on a case by case basis. If you wish to request a waiver of the six-year
rule, I suggest that you first consult your faculty advisor on the
procedures for filing a petition. If you have any additional questions,
please do not hesitate to contact me.
