Dear Colleague:
UTSA's Language and Culture Working Group encourages greater
cross-disciplinary discussion and collaboration among faculty and advanced
students whose teaching and/or research concerns the interplay of language
and culture in various forms of human expression and endeavor. The working
group helped organize and publicize five events last year, and hopes to
equal that number in 2002-2003. We write to invite your participation again
this year, and to welcome new members.
Bridget Drinka of English, Classics and Philosophy has organized two
lectures by Dr. Andrej Kibrik of Moscow State University. Dr. Kibrik's
lectures are also sponsored by the COLFA Cultural Studies Lecture Series and
the College of Education and Human Development. Please help us spread the
word.
"The Discourse Structure of Children's Dream Narratives"
Tuesday October 15 at 4:00 p.m. in BB 3.01.12.
"An Introduction to Upper Kuskokwim: A Sketch of an Athabaskan Language of
Central Alaska" Wednesday October 16 at 10:00 a.m. in BB 2.01.14.
We hope to see you at these (and subsequent) events, and we urge you to
follow suit by publicizing relevant events to the Language and Culture
Working Group. The success of this endeavor rests on the interest and input
generated by the membership.
Attached you will find two documents. The Contact List (Excel doc) is a
slightly modified version of last year's. It needs to be updated. Please
check the accuracy of your own contact information and peruse the list for
names of people who are no longer at UTSA and should be removed. If the
list lacks someone who should be included, please forward to them the
attached Information Form (Word doc). Corrections and completed contact
forms should be e-mailed to kwilkinson@... or sent by campus mail to
Kent Wilkinson * Dept. of Communication * HSS 4.03.38 * 1604 Campus. A
revised contact list will be distributed to all members next month.
Best wishes for a productive fall semester, we hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Bridget Drinka Kenton T. Wilkinson
