Norman Virus Control 5.90 will be released Wednesday 2007/05/02. In connection with this release it is very important that all customers running Norman Virus Control in networks performs the procedure explained here. Failure to implement these changes in time will cause error messages and other problems on the clients in the network.

Procedure for upgrading from NVC 5.82 to NVC 5.90 in networks

In network environments running distributed Norman Virus Control, the following steps have to be performed to ensure a successful upgrade to NVC 5.90.

Step 1 must be performed before the NVC 5.90 release Wednesday 2007/05/02, while steps 2-5 have to be performed after the release.

  1. If you are using a Selfxwiz generated installation package to distribute NVC to clients in your network, please remove the line executing the installation package from your logon script. Default file name for the installation package is nvc5w32.exe.
  2. Run Norman Internet Update on the distribution server to download the NVC 5.90 components.
  3. Download and install the new Admin Tools to your main distribution server:
  4. Generate a new distribution package using Ndesk or SelfXWiz, and add a reference to this package in your logon script (this procedure is explained in detail in the Administrator guide).
  5. Run c:\norman\npm\bin\niucf.exe and select all platforms present in your network.

You will find more information in the Release notes accessible from the Norman tray icon.

Note!
If you fail to complete step 1 before you upgrade your distribution server to 5.90, the clients in your network will display an error message when executing the old SelfXwiz package. Please refer to this article for troubleshooting.

For more information on Selfxwiz, Niucf and Ndesk, please refer to the NVC5 Administrator's guide available here.

Please do not hesitate to contact your local Norman support department if you have questions or comments related to the NVC 5.90 upgrade.
