Call for Papers and Participation

THE EIGHTEENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON VLSI DESIGN
and THE FOURTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

JANUARY 3 - 7, 2005 TAJ BENGAL KOLKATA, INDIA

Sponsored by:
VLSI Society of India (VSI)
Indian Statistical Insitute

Technical Co-sponsorship by:
IEEE Circuits and Systems Society
ACM Special Interest Group on Design Automation
IEEE Solid state Circuits Society

The theme of the 18th International Conference on VLSI Design and
the 4th International Conference on Embedded Systems is Power aware
design of VLSI systems.

The joint-conference is a forum for researchers and designers to
present and discuss various aspects of VLSI Design, electronic
design automation (EDA), VLSI technologies and embedded systems. It
covers the entire spectrum of activities in the two vital areas,
which underpin the semiconductor industry. The five-day program will
consist of regular paper sessions, special sessions, embedded
tutorials, panel discussions, design contest and industrial exhibits
followed by two days of tutorials.

TOPICS OF INTEREST: Papers are invited on topics related to, but not
limited to, the following:

DESIGN METHODS TRACK: Process technology, processor design, analog-
digital mixed signal SoC, concurrent package and board design, CMOS
and interconnect reliability, integrated circuit manufacturing,
device modelling and simulation, signal integrity and circuit
marginality issues, low-power design, DSP design, functional verification.

DESIGN TOOLS TRACK: High-level synthesis, logic synthesis, design
validation, ASIC design, core-based systems, test and DFT, analog
CAD, MEMS, performance-driven design, physical design, programmable
devices, standards, digital imaging, SoC design platforms.

EMBEDDED SYSTEMS TRACK: Hardware/software co-design and
verification, embedded software design, reconfigurable hardware
design, architecture mapping, FPGA-based design.

PAPER SUBMISSION: Please submit previously unpublished papers
electronically (as postscript or pdf files) on the conference
website by July 16, 2004. The manuscript should clearly state the
novel ideas, results and applications of the contribution.
Submissions will undergo BLIND REVIEW. On a separate title page,
please provide the abstract of the paper (max. 150words), name, address, e-
mail,
telephone and/or fax numbers of all authors with the contact author
identified. Papers should not exceed 15 A4 size double-spaced one column
pages (text in 11pt) including figures and references. Proposals for embedded
tutorials in
emerging areas should be submitted as an extended abstract (pdf file) not
exceeding 4 pages. Authors will be notified of
acceptance by September 10, 2004. Camera-ready papers should be
submitted on the conference website by October 5, 2004.

TUTORIALS: This conference also has a history of running a highly
successful series of tutorials. The 18th International Conference
on VLSI Design will dedicate two days to six full-day tutorials on
recent topics in VLSI design, EDA, VLSI technology and embedded systems.
Topics are open
at this time, and speakers are encouraged to submit proposals to
Tutorial Chairs through the conference website by June 15, 2004.

SPECIAL SESSIONS/PANELS: Proposals for special sessions (a set of
related papers on a subject) will be considered for inclusion in
the technical program. Special session proposal should include a
two- page summary of the session and a list of papers on the
conference website. Papers in the list should be submitted
according to the paper submission guidelines. This material should
be submitted on the website by July 16, 2004. Papers that are part
of the special session will go through the same peer review process
as regular papers.

DESIGN CONTEST: Please check website for contest rules and submit
entries by July 31, 2004.

EXHIBITS: The conference provides a unique opportunity for vendors
of VLSI design tools and services to display their
products/services. Exhibition space is limited and those interested
should immediately contact the Exhibits Chairs.

AWARDS: Prof. A. K. Choudhury Best Paper Award, Prof. N. N. Biswas
Best Student Paper Award and two Honorable Mention Awards will be
given. Student authors should be identified on the manuscripts.
Papers with at least one student author will be eligible for the
Best Student Paper Award. Design Contest Awards will also be given.

FELLOWSHIPS: The Steering Committee will award fellowships, based
on need and merit, to partially cover expenses of attendees from
India. Applications must be submitted by October 15, 2004 at the
conference website.
