A crude Versata .dat file editor   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #93 of 241 |
In my abundant spare time, I have put together a very simple GUI
program to view and edit Versata .dat files.

I have tested it with .dat files from Versata 5.5 and 5.6, but I think
it should work with just about any version up to 5.6. As you may know,
Versata 6 uses XML files instead of these opaque binary files.

A word of caution : this is whipped together very quickly. It might
corrupt your dat files. It might reformat your hard disk. Caveat
empteor, you get what you pay for, etc...

On the other hand, it is a *lot* faster than the VLS Console...

This is a standard executable jar, which should run with most modern
Java implementations.

Once it is running, select File->Open, select the directory where your
dat files are (e.g. .../Versata/VLSComponents/Admin), and there you
are. If you change anything in any of the files, you can save the file
by right-clicking on it.

Possible future enhancements : import/export to/from CSV and XML, more
pleasant GUI, copy and paste across two file sets, insert and delete
capability, and whatever suggestions people send me.

One last word of warning: even if this software does not corrupt your
dat files, you might. I *very* highly recommend you do a backup of
your dat files before editing them with this.

Let me know what you think.
