Hi all. So, I just decided to start playing around with Second Life, and I
decided that couldn't have a virtual TV without it showing the lateest and
greatest from the vlogsphere. SO, I crated a url that returns .mov which
contains a dynamically generated SMIL document. This allows the TVs/Video
displays in my second life land to be playing a constantly changing/updating
playlist of vlogs! Perfect for parties, vlogger meet-ups, or just hangin
out.
For those of you in second life, you can use the same media url if you
like. By default, the page plays the 'videoblogging' category from blip.tv,
but you can have it play any feed or opml you like. You can have it show
just your videos, or your vlogroll ... whatever.
To play the default feed (blip.tv videoblogging category) just point your
Second Life video URL to:
http://www.slackspace.net/vlogsphere.php
To have your second life video player play videos from a particular rss feed
just pass it the feed url. For example if you wanted to have it play your
MeFeedia Queue you would use a url like: (I've used my MeFeedia queue as an
example but you can put any feed in here.)
http://www.slackspace.net/vlogsphere.php?feed=
http://mefeedia.com/queue/2073/rss2.xml
You can also send the page a url to an opml list. In this case, it takes
the first post from each feed and plays any (quicktime friendly) enclosure
found. Just use opml= instead of feed= in the above example and send it
the url to your opml file.
To see it in action feel free to swing by my Second Life lot:
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Gyeongju/106/166/73/
( I'm new in the world so dont expect much eye candy there, but the video
displays work :D )
Anyway, I'm enjoying watching vlogs while learning to build things in Second
Life and with the default playlist I've already discovered some videos I
wouldn't have seen otherwise ... just thought I'd share the url in case it
would be enjoyed by anyone else in Second Life.
I supppose there may be other uses for a dynamically generated SMIL based
.mov .... feel free to use it for any of those as well. :-)
