I'm not all that schooled in this subject (obviously), so thank you
for correcting me. Since it is generally found in .mov files I had
just assumed (and we all know what happens when we assume ...)

I download video on my computer and transfer them to my PPC. I have
ANT set to automatically download videos, so that gets done while I'm
sleeping. Then I can pick which ones I want to watch first.

I've tried out FeederReader in the past; I uninstalled it because I
found that I really didn't use it much, and I needed the space for
other programs that I used more often.

I believe Frontier, which was released as an open-source application for
Mac OS X and Windows will work fine. What Dave is working on now is
based off of that, but tailored specifically as an OPML editor... I
maybe wrong, as I always hacker my version of Frontier to do whatever I
needed it to do...

These things won't be popular until robust services are there that
allow you to download or buy video content easily and in the right
format. I've got one and see how immense the potential is, but believe
service is the key to their success. A secondary factor will probably
be ubiquity of wireless access. Imagine that every fililng station or
7-11 had high speed wireless access. WIth RFID and you could quickly
scan, upload movies to your PMP and pay for them without seeing a
teller. Then go home and dock your device or watch them on the go.

Thank you, Pete!

However, I found that Feedburner feeds don't compute. See this
screencast (1.5 min):

Any idea how I can work around that?

Now, to go read some f***ing manuals :)

Thanks again!,

Raymond, do you have a URL for the OPML file so I could take a look at them?

Hmmm, I'm starting to think I should have recommended Radio UserLand, as
I think it's OPML editing was way more advanced than Frontiers. (Though
not open-source, you can get a demo version good for 30 days I think.)

peter, its always been about our voices....but the tools we've been
building have helped spread the voices. we didnt just wait for big
compnaies to make things happen. they are only doing ti becasue they
see what is already being built and working.
this is how we create an open playing.

I am so psyched by iTunes playing podcasts and videoblogs.
its just going to bring many more people to the table.
but i wonder...will they encourage people to create and distribute
their own media like freevlog does?
will iTunes or others create conversations?
or is it just a one way distribution stream like tradional media?

its just so very exciting how fast we are all moving.
i hope that i can watch your videos on my computer, TV, hand-held devices, etc.
i hope there are a million ways to do it.

but for those of us building tools, its important to remember that we
do have influence in how things are done.
we're still part of the ecology.
if it was just iTunes...or just ITunes, Google and Microsoft, ...not
as exciting.

This sounds like a great event! I will definately show up. I just
hope that it's not just preaching to the choir. The focus of the
event really has to be on 'How to..' since so many computer folks
still don't know they can see video or post video so easily.

It might help to have something printed up to hand out, even if it
was just a bunch of links, so people remember to check it out when
they get home.

Well it is not intended to be a teaching workshop. More an Inform and empower. We will briefly introduce them how to make their own vlog, and point them in the direction of the right sites (freevlog, this group, vlogdir, etc). I guess we are kind of trying to act as embassadors of the vlogosphere. We will introduce them to the concept, show some exmples, talk about some of the new developments and then let them decide if they want to take the next step and make their own. I agree that a printout would be a great idea, something with links and maybe speaker bio's...

Steve: perhaps we should get some of that kind of information together, have people write a little paragraph about who they are etc.

Exactly, getting folks to get up and realize they can do this is
key. And making sure they leave with a piece of paper that helps
them do it when they get home. I think a wide variety of vlogs
should be shown, but only to demonstrate different content, just
enough to make folks go home and check it out themselves. The
conversation needs to be about how to do this easily, not how cool my
vlog is...

Hi Carl,
I had a videobloggers dinner last month and am putting together an
email list to try to get a group going in Boston.

I've added you to the list and will let you know when I plan the next
get together on Boston.

nifty!
I didn't know you guys were doing this kind of thing as part of the
vlogcue week festivities.
Be prepared for a mob scene, apple store events are generall well
attended. A few months back I went to see the NY photobloggers
present, very big and engaged crowd.
have fun.

1. Addict? Yes. :)

2. Seems like an important thing we can do in response to iTunes 4.whatever
beyond lobbying for a videoblog category, is to begin "we want comments"
threads at Apple requesting comment capacity.

I've got a lot on my plate right now but perhaps someone could del.iciously
aggregate (welovevlogs) a list of pages at Apple (and elsewhere as big media
changes happen) where we can speak out as a group.

Everyone should go at least once to those Apple pages previously posted
herein and request a videoblog category and easily accessible comments.

You dig?

I know Adam has a lot of room out in Hoboken, but if anyone needs a place to
stay in
Manhattan over Vloggercue weekend, I have an air mattress that will accomodate 1
couple, or
1 single. My place is on the West Side in Midtown. Email me if you are

Could be working w/ SSP (Slide Show Pro). That's the only OPML
files I ever use. They work with flickrs API and read the tags in
my account, loading images in via flash.

But it could be for something else as well... ;)

someone start the campaign!
;-)

i agree...  and i would really like it if it is a new parent category named 'videoblogs'  opposed to a subcat inside podcasts.

The exciting thing is that the big guys, Apple, Google, Microsoft,
are all following us little guys around now trying to figure out
where we (or some other little guy) will take the medium (and the
market) next... People forget that only a short time ago it was the
other way around.
