Yup. That is a pretty impressive zoom.

Actually, Eric... *you* are the one who inspired the idea in the
first place as I watched your video post about video blogging. Very
nice, simple, informal - nice delivery - cool sunglasses ;-)

And it just so happens (hint hint) that my indie label's electronica
recording artist would just LOVE to lay some tracks for these video
demos. (In fact, he's a corporate trainer/human resources dev. guy in
Portugal in 'real life'). ;-) (Okay - the so-called-indie-label was
created just to launch his stuff... but a fun endeavor
nonetheless)....

But if you want Hip Hop.. (soooo LA)... you are on your own. Maybe
someone could Rap the instructions :-D

Courtney,

No! Don't do it.

I mean it. Stay away from the ipodder-dev list at all costs.

Check out some of these messages from this morning:

I've been thinking of switching to using gcj and gtk ( after I play with
that I'll have a better idea about it ) and integrating with gtkpod for
syncing...
-
What's the output when you run configuration.py --debug?
-
You might be better off downloading the .Net framework (if it works on
WinME) and Doppler.
-
Guid from md5 is MUCH better than using the length of the file.
-
If you're producing RSS by hand and FTPing it to minimal hosting, that's
fair enough. But there's also a ton of people who don't have Admin
rights to their hosting but do have a scripting language available such
as PHP, perl, Python, aspx. And every one of these can modify the
headers sent back and hence set appropriate 3XX redirects.

Here's the simplest explanation I can think of... sorry its in text ;-)

RSS allows people to subscribe to your blog and read it without having
to visit your website.
Enclosures allow you to share files along with your RSS feed, so
people can subscribe to your *videos*.

Now for some buzzwords:
This means that we have an emergent, grassroots, bottom-up, video
distribution network sitting right under noses!

I'm also considering unsubscribing from iPodder-Dev. There's a ton of
chatter -- most of it over or around my head.

Actually, we had a discussion a few weeks back about splitting this
group into another dedicated to more technical talk (which actually
isn't very technical compared to iPodder-Dev). The tech-talk chatter
has died down on this list quite a bit, but the other list (AVsyn)
hasn't really taken off yet.

I'm using a very similar execution for video, using a pop up Flash
play to stream content.

Build an HTML page with the Flash player in it. Make your link open
the page with the player.

how well you can stream your content is determined by your host. I'm
using a Flash Communication Streaming server to host my video, so
I'm getting pretty decent speed, similar to Michaels.

I've noticed that just embedding video into a page or calling a .mov
file is painfully slow.

Your video doesn't work on a Mac yet.

I get this message:

Thank you for taking an interest in our video content. At the moment,
however, your current configuration is not supported. For you to be
able to view the content, your computer should have the following
minimum configuration:

1. PC-based system (Mac is not supported)
   2. Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
   3. Windows Media Player 7 or above.

iver thoiught about making a video for "how-to" videoblog.
problem is this:
there are too many variables.
everyone has a different kind of computer/camera/editing software/blog.
PC/MAC.
camcorder, digital still camera, webcam.
iMovie, Vegas video, Moviemaker, and 20 others ive never heard of.
Typepad, MT, Blogger,....

theers no one way to videoblog right now.
how could you make a video how-to and be very general so evryone can
be included?

Courtney--
tell me the steps you'd like to see...thatb would have helped you.
without being specific with software/hardware.

I hope there'll never be one way. A lot of the power is in the diversity.
Of course with a common format for formatting and exchange to allow for
the different systems to speak together. Just like regular blogs. :o)

most people in this group are not hard-core computer people.
thats the beauty of it.
i didnt knowe any of this stuff 6 months ago.
what i did was start googling things i didnt undersatnd and read.
i asked people specific questions where things didint make sense.

its like learning how an engine works.
no one can explain the whole thing in one go.
ask about one part...and we'll start there.

have you thought about using Eric Rice's videoblog tool?

Check it out, a video that explains RSS:
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10088_7-5143656.html?tag=hed

"Rafe Needleman, editor for CNET.com Business Buying Advice, explains
how RSS feeds give you the news you need, when and where you want it.
Watch as he helps you stay informed with more news from more sources
than you could ever possibly read."

I think he did a great job.

One note:
In the video, Rafe clicks on an XML button, then copies and pastes the
URL into his RSS News reader.

You can also just click and drag an XML button into your RSS reader.
At least I can on my Mac with NewsFire.

Really, thanks for posting all those links and answers... and I was
just kidding about signing up for ipod-dev group. Ugh. Those little
samples you listed were enough to stop me in my tracks.

As for the how-to-vlog via video demos.. I wasn't necessarily talking
about each format Mac vs. Windows/PC, etc. More like options for
finding hosting, blog programs, buzzwords (thanks Josh & Steve, btw)
and what the heck they mean and what they do and how to incorporate
that stuff into one's blog.

It's just so extensive, it seems - and growing exponentially.. but I
guess just being in the group helps one keep abrest of what's new in
video blogging.

I was just suggesting options for spanking-new-to-vlogging beginners
(like me);-)

Anyway, I was able to muddle through, get a blog, do a video (of
sorts- given my lack of equipment.. i.e. video cam vs. a webcam), and
post it to my page. So, I got that far. But when I see everyone
else's RSS feed buttons and other cool stuff.. I think "Big Whaaa -
will I ever 'get' it all?" :-D

In answer to Jay's question: I've got a PC laptop/Creative webcam/Win
XP Pro/Win Movie Maker (easy as PIE to use and upload to Typepad
blog - but still haven't tried adding a simulated video player pic
with a 'click here to view' link and wrapping text around it or any
of that stuff yet...

I'm mostly curious about that http://videoaddon.com site and am *this
close* to signing up as having an embedded flash video (playerless)
in more attractive to me than trying to figure out how to give people
with alllllll those different player options a choice (real,
quicktime, windows, high speed, dial up... ugh). Has anyone else
checked out videoaddon.com or no? I'm just curious as hell to know if
it's worked for anyone else... other than the website owner, that is.

So, that's my story :-)... where the heck is Eric Rice in all this
anyway? Pony up, Eric! ;-D Hip Hop to it... hardy har har

Thanks GUYS and GALS!

I tried this for free embedded flash off of a web cam site and it works:

I did a bunch of tests with it if you want to see how it works:

for individual people, we got to be specific.

Well, Steve... I just logged onto userplane.com (after viewing your
samples) and it wouldn't work for me. First it wouldn't register my
webcam, then it froze up my computer and it wouldn't even shut down
(I had to take out the battery pack and then unplug it!)... so I
tried again. I made a video, filled out the email (to a 'friend'
form.. i.e. to myself) and it kept saying I needed to save the
recording. I'd hit 'save' and a window would pop up saying 'cancel'
or 'record' ... which I did, hit record and rerecorded a video. I hit
save again.. and again, that damn popup! Grrrr. So I hit play
instead, it played.. so I figured it was 'saved', I sent it to
myself. But when I opened up the video to play it.. it said there was
no recording! WHAT?!! So I tried it *again*... and around and around
I went... until I just gave the frig up! I don't know what I am doing
wrong.. but it ain't working for *me*..

whazzupwiddat?

Thanks for the link, however. But those tiny player windows suck.
Yuck. I like your nice big windows on Vspan... even if I *do* have to
select a player..

Brother...

Courtney
PS Nice wife. Not a single fight in 17 years? That's funny!!!! (and a
miracle,too!)

Okay - I just realized (Steve) that I just posed a *stupid*
question...seeing as *you* actually posted the A/V email from
userplane.com onto your blog. Duh...

Man, where is my *head*?!?!

Sorry!
(but still... how'd u do it?... obviously it *can* be done.. but how?)

...and sorry for asking what is probably an easy question to figure
out.. only .. I dunno... ) :-S

You click on [HTML Source], and then after you get the code you copy
and paste it into a blog entry.

It's really easy to save a Comcast video email:

1. With the video email playing inside the Comcast web page, right click the video and select "properties"
2. Copy the "location" - it may extend over several lines, all of which are not visible, so be sure you get the whole thing.
3. Open up Windows Media player, then "Open URL" and paste in the location you just copied.
4. Once it has downloaded, select "File>Save As" and save it to wherever you would like. You can then use whatever host/embed interface you like to post it to your blog.
5. If posting to another blog is your ultimate objective, you can save yourself some time by not downloading it to your system. If your Blog supports embedding Window Media video, then simply use that interface and supply the location from step 2 as the source for your blog video. That way Comcast pay for all the streaming from your blog! (I would check their terms of service to see how long they keep the video active).

I just went through this process to confirm it:

Here is the original video email from Comcast

Here it is inside my test Blog

Cheers

Will

Heh, I'm here. I followed the thread and saw someone talk about the videoblog
tool we
have on audioblog.com, and for the sake of clarity, I'll post the process. And
I'll satisify all
your popping up needs. :-)

Once you have a blog that you've listed in your account with us you do the
following steps:

1. With your webcam connected and our web-based (flash) videoblog recorder in
the
browser in front of you, you click record.
2. Do a little song, dance, smile, flash us, what have you and click stop (you
can replay it if
you like)
3. Give it the title and some descriptive text you want to show up on you blog,
and click
save.
5. On the next screen, you click publish.

And to steal the slogan of Nextel. "Done." It's published in your blog with the
player
embedded with some basic controls. Examples:
http://eric.blognews.com/blog/TVVideo

Somewhere I have a videoblog of this process, but I can't find it. Anyone else
have a copy?
It was the Quicktime version.

Okay, I'm off. :-)

have posted a new video to my vlog....

... but I still don't get how to change the 'download' link to
say "Click here to play" (?) in the HTML code on Typepad...

I know Steve gave me some instructions in a previous post... I guess
I'll have to poke through the messages and look around for it..

But in the meantime, if anyone can refresh my memory, I'd appreciate
it.. ;-)

Thanks!

When TypePad uploaded an image for you, it put code around it to pop up
a little window with the image when you click on the image.

You don't want that, You want a video to pop up.

So you can just copy the code TypePad uses to pop open the video and
put it where the pop up window code is.

Change your existing code from this:

<p><a onclick="window.open(this.href, '_blank',
'width=200,height=200,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=
no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"
href="http://tonbo.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/
lastravecover.jpg"><img title="Lastravecover" height="125"
alt="Lastravecover"
src="http://tonbo.typepad.com/tonbo_tv/images/lastravecover.jpg"
width="123" border="0" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px;
WIDTH: 123px; HEIGHT: 125px" /></a> </p>

<p><a
href="http://tonbo.typepad.com/tonbo_tv/files/
VideoEmailTestJax1.wmv">Download VideoEmailTestJax1.wmv</a> </p>

To this:

<p><a
href="http://tonbo.typepad.com/tonbo_tv/files/
VideoEmailTestJax1.wmv"><img title="Lastravecover" height="125"
alt="Lastravecover"
src="http://tonbo.typepad.com/tonbo_tv/images/lastravecover.jpg"
width="123" border="0" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px;
WIDTH: 123px; HEIGHT: 125px" /></a> </p>
