Thanks for the heads up. I'll be making a HD recording of it for my

Maybe, back when i used safari for rss, i'd put the feed in bookmark
folders which would be positioned right below the address bar, for
example i'd have a folder called news which would give me the total
unread posts news (32) every time i'd open safari.
I would then click it and click open all posts and every unread post
from those feed would open.

Very nice, maybe a little too nice, i stopped using it like that
because i almost became addicted to reading every single unread post.
Because it was so visible it had to be read.

Which is exactly the reason i don't like google reader (or do i :)

Apple just caved into those of us who thought their upgrade pricing
policy was too steep from 4.5 HD to Final Cut Studio.

Now instead of $799 it's being lowered to $199 as of February 2
including the Intel Mac Universal version when it ships by the end of
March.

I think you'll agree this makes moving to Studio much more affordable
at $600 less than to date.

Hi,
I'm an Italian videoblogger: my name is Strelnik (real name:
Maximiliano Bianchi) and I started videoblogging since the end of
2005's summer.
Kinobit is the videoblog I create (www.kinobit.it); it became soon a
collective vlog to talk about vlog and ohters kind of video (spot,
short films, toons) and to invite people to become videobloggers.

I'm watching a lot of foreign vlog - in Italy vlogosphere is smaller,
very smaller than in USA or than others countries - and I'm reading
the messages of this group because I believe it's one of the best way
to learn and to share our know-how.

Because of these reasons, I appreciate very much stuff like Node101,
Freevlog.org and all the common projects that many of you are
developing; I think this is the gentlest media revolution ever seen:
"the media is the movement is the media" - and no matters if someone
is using videoblog just to talk about his cat or his political career,
the important thing is to have an audince that is not a voyuer one,
but that interacts and learns and answers and confont simply by
making/becoming media.

I would like to thank every vlogger in this list - and outside in the
international vlogoscene - for the effort to spread the word
"videoblog" giving people the chance to express and confront with
everyone just by the force of opinions. This is democracy - or
something very interesting, anyway.

Last thing: I assembled one week ago a blob - vlog-soup, if you want -
that I showed at Future Film Festival
(http://www.futurefilmfestival.org/fwffff2006.html) in Bologna, Italy
where I was invited to talk about next media convergence between
television and web.
It's also a sort of tribute and response to "Vlog Anarchy" - the
videopost by Michael Verdi I appreciated very much for its freshness
and honesty.
I f you want you can see it here: http://www.kinobit.it/?p=139

I would like to talk about many interesting things (rhizome movies and
interactivity, the Carp caviar experiment, Rise Up Network etc), but
as you surely realized, my English is so bad, and I have to finish here.

Thanks again for your works&words, I'm reading you.

salut et fraternité

Hi everyone,

I've finally gotten around to setting up separate RSS feeds for podcasts
and videos on my blog, www.andycarvin.com. Up until now, I've had just
one feed that includes everything on my blog, no matter the media
format. Since some users prefer feeds that don't mix media, I now have
separate feeds available.

My main blog feed (text, video, audio combined) hasn't changed:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/carvin

video only:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/carvin-video

audio podcasts only:

No I dont think you're missing anything really, Verdi.  IE7 is just a browser, it's still no replacement for an aggregator.  But it does offer a much easier view into feeds for people who arent with it yet.  Nice friendly format of raw feeds, sorting, filtering, auto-download of enclosed items, and a hot-key to open your list of subscribed feeds ... I think its going to let more and more people understand the point of feeds ... and then probably move to a more feature rich aggregator.

Windows Vista is apparently going to have nice RSS features at the OS level which actual aggregators can use and take advantage of.  So for example in Windows Vista you can use IE (or any browser that uses the vista rss APIs) to subscribe to a feed and it will automatically be listed in your favorite aggregators.

I think that eventually the major browsers will become more and more aggregator like (and I'm not sure I like that) ... but so far ... they're still just browsers.

On 1/31/06, Michael Verdi <michael@...> wrote:

To me the whole point of an aggregator like FireAnt, Mefeedia, Bloglines, NetNewsWire, etc, is that you can see all of your subscriptions at once. If I switch over to Netnewswire right now, I see that roughly half of the 75 or so feeds I have in there have updates. Now I know which ones I don't have to even bother looking at.

Am I missing something?

The bigger problem, for myself anyway, is that IE7 completely ignores
any platform that is not Windows, and since I don't use Windows, I guess
I should just ignore IE7. :(

Back around 2000 or so IE5/Mac was a decent browser, but I guess
Microsoft has no interest in other platforms anymore.

I have discovered that my ipod is cutting off the begining 10 to 20
seconds or so of my videos that come thru my feed. This is really
strange behavior. It seems that the same videos loaded on to the
iPod manually work fine but for some reason when the files come thru
the feed they are clipped at the begining. The play time on the ipod
will say 0:00 at what I know is NOT the begining of the video and
the video ends before all the time on the counter has elapsed. I
think it could be an issue with the ipod, but if that is the case
then why is it happening only to videos that come thru the feed? And
not when the exact same files are loaded manually onto the ipod?
Maybe it's the way Apple handles podcasts on the ipod, I dunno.
Maybe it's just me. But if anyone that is subscribed to my vlog and
has an ipod can check the feed against the flash version of my
latest post on my site and tell me if they have the same issue so at
least I'll know that it's local, I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

Friends,

I've been posting my videos in Windows Media, but that's a problem for
iTunes, so I had to figure out a way to convert to mov.

I downloaded some freeware called Stoik to convert wmv to avi and then
spent $30 on QuickTime Pro to convert avi to mov.

It's all good, except that a 2.5Meg wmv file ends up as a 40Meg mov
file ("Microsoft 1" compression is the only one I can get to work).

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Here's what you do:
From Movie Make - save your video to your computer as a DV-AVI file.
Open that in QuickTime Pro. Then export movie to QuickTime Movie.
Then follow the compression settings at freevlog:
http://freevlog.org/#compress
Select the compress from iMovie tutorial.
or
Try this one:
<URL: http://freevlog.org/wordpress/index.php/2005/10/23/compress-for-the-web-with-3ivx/ >

Either of those will give you video that's compatible with the iPod.

Thanks,
Verdi

I had only copied your "Tom Huck (repost)" video to my iPod, and that

Yeah I figured it out I think. And Boy do I feel like a bonehead. I
was trying to figure out a work around to not having a poster frame
in the flash file since that is most prominent on the site. So I cut
and pasted a frame from the compressed movie and pasted at the
beginning so that when I made it into flash it would show up as the
still frame on the site. The problem is that if I upload the
QuickTime movie like this it causes that particular error.
Fortunately it seems to only effect playing on the iPod and not on a
computer (at least on my mac). I'll have to remember to do this bit
in editing next time rather than after compression. I guess I'll
replace the files again. At least I figured it out. Thanks for your
help.

brief mobile podcast interview with Mayor Bloomberg, which in turn was
shot by ABC's Nightline crew. (Didn't know about it until friends
called after seeing me on TV that night.) Also got some good footage
of Christo and Jeanne Paul touring the installation, yelling at
reporters, and a volunteer getting conked on the head when one of the
Gates unfurled on top of them.

Michael,
Do we have any Mac OS X software that will let us convert Windows
Media Player .wmv files to Quicktime .mov or .m4v files so they are
Video iPod compatible? Any convoluted work arounds?

Thanks.

I interviewed Amanda and Andrew on my radio show / podcast, The Sound
of Young America, this past weekend. Thought you all might be interested:
http://media.libsyn.com/media/tsoya/rocketboom.mp3

They talk about all kinds of stuff, and while some of it is geared
towards a general audience, they talk pretty signficantly about their
ebay auction and so on... so check it out, let me know what you think.

I'll bet that the Rocketboom downloads that week - March 6-10 - rise
significantly if not radically. By early March this is going to be on
the cover of Advertising Age and will be the biggest story in the
world of advertising. Whoever wins that bid is going to reap HUGE
benefit from the ancillary exposure. It will be a historical moment
in the history of media as well as advertising and marketing.

Inspired by Rocketbooms three day success auctioning off 5-days of advertising time in March through eBay, Technology Evangelist has set up their own eBay page for exclusive ad placement in five of their upcoming HD videos.
