Hi folks -

I'm more of a content guy than a tech guy, so I hope some of you with
tech expertise can explain something to me. I'm working on building a
vlog for a friend, trying to write the code myself and learn by doing.
We're trying to figure out a player that can be embedded on other
people's sites, as opposed to just putting a link or a screen capture
image there.

I use blip now, and I know we could also go with YouTube or any number
of others, but then when people watch the videos, the site whose
player it is gets credit for the traffic. We'd like to be able to get
the traffic when people watch our video, wherever it ends up.

I also know bandwidth will get expensive, but put that part aside for
the moment. Is it possible within reasonable time and expense to
build an embedded player that brings the traffic back to my site, no
matter where the player ends up?

(and as I said, I'm still not much of a tech guy, so if I've phrased
anything incorrectly, please let me know and I won't be
offended.)
Thanks,
Mark

All your plays are recorded over on blip so that no matter where your
video is sitting, the playing of it gets counted.

Brightcove also has embedded players that track plays...

If you want your website to get hits, you need to have the viewer
visit the site...

I think that the days of counting website hits is going away, and the
future lies in counting the number of times the media is watched no
matter where it sits.

Also, I'm hoping that we get beyond CMP or cost per 1,000
impressions, and are able to move toward the value of sponsorship for
a targeted audience.

That's where the real advertiser value is in web video vs. blasting
out an ad to thousands of people who don't care to see it.

I don't see this as political. I see this as a responsibility that all
citizens have about the country. Now part of that responsibility is
participation in our local, state and federal governments.

This responsibility has been systematically stripped away by
PACS/special interest groups, those running for office that have
offended one group or another and by the complexity of the issues.
This isn't easy stuff.

So anything that fosters an honest dialog I'm all for it. I do not
believe M$M has any interest in making this conversation happen. Not
unless they can derive a dollar value. So far they only focus on the
RepDems to the exclusion of other alternatives.

Even if you accept the premise that FOX News speaks to the
conservative audience it only focuses on a particular segment of
conservative voices. There is a spectrum of conservative thought that
is not heard on that channel. The same could be said of NPR and the
diversity of liberal ideas and concepts.

So, yeah if this happens then a grass roots network would have to
reach out to a diverse population. I think it can be done. I know it
can be done.

One person? No, I do think it would have be a networking of interested
folks, some of which do not belong to this group. But if it was
explained to them and we show them what to do they would take up
cameras to record.

Now if there was a hook up with public access stations and maybe
non-NPR college radio stations we could do something beyond our
separate current reaches. Vlogging and vloggers can help.

I see this as more possible than impossible.

Hi all,

Happy new year everyone! 2007 is going to be such a fabulous year---7 is my
lucky number and I am feeling it already! Hope you have all had a great
holiday!

I am heading to CES next week. Anyone going?I've never been before so I
don't know exactly what to expect. I've set some meetings with some peole
already, but I'd love to meet more folks in the group who are going to be
there. Please shoot me an email if you are going...and maybe we can set
up a time to get together! Or maybe we should arrange a group get together
somewhere? (Having never been, I am not sure how difficult this might
be...)

Cheers,

Sarah

Hey Wally,

I've got a PNY attache, that I've had for about two and half years and
it's still working great. I've had two other ones die on me, but the
PNY has taken a lot of abuse and works great.

They're talking here about WiMax

Hard to see it being here in just 2 years.

well, what with the advent of this new year it was bound to happen
sooner or later. hi guys, i've been lurking in this group since about
novemeber when irina introduced me to this, and subsequently the
entire videoblogging community (i nominated myself in the vloggies,
and came out with a clean sweep, 0 for 5!).

you may or may not be familar with the entry, commercial free paolo,
which was in essence the precursor to my shiny new self-imploding
vlog, battlestar harmonica. which, if the pilot episode is of any
gauge of self-implosion, then hell, we're having a warp core breach by
episode 5.

anyway. my name is paolo, 20 year old former idealistic renegade youth
filmmaker, i reside in oakland, california.

battlestar harmonica isn't really about anything persay, the only real
caveat is me doing something, and that something screws with people
for lack of a better term. i'm kinda embarrassed sharing this with you
folks, cause i see people doing such great things with this medium and
then you see something like the pilot episode of BSH and wow, i think
i just did something absolutely horrible!

but oh well, i'm being sponsored by podshow by the moment, until i can
get on my feet and get my own domain -- you'll have to be a memeber to
comment, assuming you'd want to. otherwise, feel free to reply to this
or send me a e-mail or something.

http://battlestarharmonica.podshow.com

thanks a lot people, in advance.

cheers,
paolo.

Dear Video Bloggers,
During the summer I made a 30minute movie. After
editing it, the final production came to 2 x 4GB size
files. How can I manage to put those two files into
one film file?

I am using XP with 300GB of hard drive with Adobe
Premiere Pro 1.5. I can save the files up to 4GB with
Adobe into AVI files, but I can not go above 4GB worth
of film file. So I have to keep the movie into two
seperate section.

Any assistance will be helpful.

Sincerely,
Nicolas

I am thinking of purchasing a video ipod, so your

Our site is up and running again.

We had a huge crash in Oct. 2006 and lost all data.
Our backup did not work.
We recovered a lot of the old posts from the Daily Vodcasts archive
and we're now republishing the whole lot, interspersed with new stuff.

It's an interesting problem. I've started using Windows Mobile on my
new T-Mobile SDA cell phone. It's more limited in it's capabilities
-- playing AVI, WMV, MPG & 3GP but only of limited types (except 3GP.)

But back to what I gather the issue here is -- converting all your
sites vPIP entries from Quicktime or Windows Media to Flash. This is
doable and I may write a feature for that at some point on the site
I'm developing at cinegage.com (not released yet.) Otherwise there'd
be a charge for a feature like that sooner.

Welcome to the vlogosphere Paolo ... entertaining intro and I especially
like that someone would lose there virginity at such a conference

... one thing about the podshow "sponsorship" is that, if you mean you are
getting the hosting and stuff for free, actually you can do most everything
for free anyway and people can comment without signing in, in a much more
open/not-walled garden environment (see freevlog.org) ... of course, if you
mean, they're paying you - that's different.

... blip.tv will host videos for free and they're as good/better than paid
services, and they have the best terms of service

... also domain names and hosting of blogs like wordpress are very cheap
(dreamhost or godaddy, for example)

... just some thoughts ... again, welcome ... Richard

It's a toughy for me as well. You can't use the On2 codec unless it's
viewed with the Flash 8 or 9 player, and the sorenson codec for flash
7 doesn't have the same quality output. If you're looking for more
penetration though, you'll want to use the sorenson codec...as flash
player lite (mobile) is only for flash 7 and below.
