hi. Qinling,
Attached is the time table for VO-DAS.
At present, some test work on VO-DAS basic functions is undergoing.
Please post your comments and suggestions here.

Managing Data on the Grid
March 6, 2007
By Paul
Shread
Two open
source grid computing projects moved ahead this week, with the release
of DataMiningGrid software and Univa's contribution of its Data
Distribution Manager (DDM) as a Globus Incubator project.
Univa
DDM provides a data distribution service for tracking, transporting and
synchronizing large-scale distributed data sets, offering efficient use
of available bandwidth and storage while ensuring secure and reliable
operation.
In a
statement, Univa Chief Scientist Carl Kesselman said DDM "provides much
richer capabilities for distributed file management than is available
in any of the current Globus tools. ... By contributing Univa DDM to
the Globus open source process, it helps increase the applicability of
Globus based grid solutions in a wider range of scientific research and
enterprise computing environments, and in turn advances the goals of
the company."
Univa was founded
in 2004 by the creators of the Globus Toolkit, the widely used open
source grid software.
Univa
DDM is a new service that builds on Globus Toolkit features such as the
C and Java Web Services Core, GridFTP, GRAM, and RLS, among others, by
adding the capability for data set specification, a range of
synchronization modes, replica selection, and a comprehensive set of
policy-based failure recovery mechanisms.
DDM
offers data management features such as multi-site replication with
updates, synchronization of changes only and fault tolerance, with
plans to add extensible data set descriptions and service availability.
Globus
Incubator projects are built upon software that is entirely new to
Globus. The process was created to facilitate incorporation of such
software into the Globus Toolkit. For more information, visit http://dev.globus.org/wiki/Incubator/DDM.
DataMiningGrid
Released
The
DataMiningGrid Consortium has announced the 1.0 beta release of its
DataMiningGrid tools and services. The partners in the effort are the
UK's University of Ulster, the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, the
Technion in Israel, Germany's Fraunhofer Institute and automaker
DaimlerChrysler.
DataMiningGrid
software is available in source and binary under an open source Apache
License v2.0. The general-purpose software offers user-friendly,
grid-based data mining, and can only be used in connection to Globus
toolkit version 4, Condor local scheduler, and Triana Workflow Editor
and Manager.

Hi. Qinling,
We will have the first weekly meeting on Friday. At the meeting we will
define a detailed time table for the VO-DAS 1.0. We are going to release
the first version before IVOA meeting in Beijing.
I will send a copy of our work plan to you.
P.S. Will you attend the Beijing meeting?
cheers,

Hi folks,
FYI, I posted an update to the v0.10-to-v1.0 conversion stylesheet,
VOResource-v0.10-v1.0.xsl2, at
http://www.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/RegUpgradeSummer2006.
This corrects a mishandling of the @updated and @created attributes and in
general does a better job of converting them.
cheers,

Subject: Java VOSpace implementation

Reply-To: Matthew Graham <mjg@...>
To: vospace@...
Hi,
As part of the NVO Summer School software package
(http://nvo.caltech.edu/nvoss2006.zip), there is a VOSpace v1.0
implementation (under java/src/vospace) which implements everything in
the interface except WS-Security. It is configured to use MySQL as a
metadata store but this is extensible to use any db/flat files. It also
supplies an HTTP-based data server to support HTTP get and put with
limited-lifetime-one-use URLs. There is a command line client for
VOSpace as well.
An implementation utilising WS-Security will be appearing soon.
Cheers,
Matthew

Subject: ESO VOSpace Pilot installation ready for Interoperability testing
Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2006 07:57:59 +0100
From: Paul Harrison <pharriso@...>
Reply-To: Paul Harrison <pharriso@...>
To: IVOA mailing list VoSpace <vospace@...>
We now have a pilot VOSpace 1.0 installation available for
interoperability testing.
The endpoint of the service is http://vops1.hq.eso.org:8080/vospace/
services/VOSpacePort
and the vospace root URL is vos://org.eso!vospacetest/
It implements the v1.0 interface with http-put and http-get
transports (which have a crude one-time-password mechanism) and
stores the data/metadata in a back-end NGAS system. There are stlll
some inefficiencies in the implementation that require some changes
to the NGAS backend, but otherwise I think that this provides minimal
VOSpace compliance.
I think that I have put in place the necessary security
infrastructure to accept requests signed by certificates from the
current Astrogrid and NVO CAs.
N.B. this is a pilot installation - do not use to store important/
sensitive data - there is no guarantee of data safety.
Paul.
p.s. I have started a new wiki page http://www.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/
view/IVOA/VOSpaceHome to centralize the VOSpace information

Te main function of this package is: get the DataNode registry information from
the registry server, parse it and create the corresponding objects. Meanwhile,
using the ServiceURL, obtain the metadata of the Tables andmetadata of the
Fields belong to these Tables. Again, create objects corresponding to them. And
parse the received XML files to String. After that, organize them to MDDataNode
and DataResource object and push DataResource into DataResourceMap object
received from Tian.

I am not clear about the relationship and difference between PLASTIC and
CEA. Do they both support application registry and invoking? Anyway,
please install it if it is easy.

Hi Folks,
I'm gradually catching up after my vacation. I want to let you know that
I have posted to the twiki a Java registry search client that can be used
to test our registry search interfaces. You can find it at
RegUpgradeSummer2006
(http://www.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/RegUpgradeSummer2006) as a zip
file called ireg-linux.zip.
It includes a *nix shell wrapper script that allows you to access search
functions from the command line (Windows version coming soon). After
unpacking the zip file, you can find the documentation for this tool
inside bin/regsearch. This tool is still a little clunky for use in
scripts, but it is definitely useful for debugging. In particular, -x
option will print out the SOAP messages coming and going.
cheers,
Ray
