These are the FAQ for the Vue d'Esprit discussion list. They are not really
questions and answers. These are a few lines to describe our identity and little
rules. Please read them before you start posting to the group.

Every topic related to Vue d'Esprit, it's use, and available specific resources
for it (such as tutorials, models, etc.) is on topic here.
Also generally accepted are topics that involve other graphic software as long
as it's a software that can be effectively used together with, or in enhancement
of, Vue d'Esprit.
Also generally accepted are topics containing information about generic
resources for 3D art that can be of effective use with Vue d'Esprit. Also
accepted is any discussion about the life of the list itself and it's purposes.
All other subjects are off-topic for this list.

You are going to find here a friendly place full of experienced Vue d'Esprit
users that are ready to help.
New Vue d'Esprit users are welcome and we will be happy to offer them all
possible free support.

The members of this list are invited to freely share available resources for Vue
d'Esprit, whenever it is possible for them.

We have only 5 rules, but important:

1. Users must respect each other. Insults and other serious offensive behaviour
will not be tolerated;

2. This list tolerates occasional off-topic threads, as it is our will to keep
the flow of discussion on this list as free as possible. However, the list
administrators will send warnings when an off-topic thread has gone on too long
or too far away from the scope of this list. Members are then required then to
comply to the administrator's requests;

3. Information about commercially resources available for Vue d'Esprit or for
other 3D software that can be used together with, or in enhancement of, Vue
d'Esprit is accepted, as long as it is introduced with moderation. Generally
accepted are announcement of new releases. These can be made only once for each
product. Generally accepted are also announcements of updates to a product.
These too can be made only once for each product. Both announcements of new
releases and updates will be judged in relation to their frequency. We indicate
the frequency of about one announcement of each type per month as a limit that
should not be exceeded. Generally accepted are also announcement of special
offers and promotions. These can be made only twice: the first time before the
offer starts, the second time a few days before the offer expires. Also special
offers and promotions messages will be judged in relation to their frequency. We
indicate the frequency of about one announcement of special offers/promotions
per month as a limit that should not be exceeded. The signature text of a
member can contain a link to a commercial page and a very brief description of
what it offers. Any abuse of the above guidelines will be considered as SPAM and
will lead to a public warning by the list administrators. Should the person who
broke the rules insist in the violation of the rules, he/she will be banned from
this list permanently. All the above indications about frequency of commercial
messages must be considered only as rough guidelines. All interpretation of
them, and all faculty of judgement of the above is given to the list
administrators, which are free to take any action to protect the list against
tentatives of spamming regardless of the more or less precise compliance to the
guidelines above. All commercial messages that are not related to Vue d'Esprit
or other 3D software that can be used together with, or in enhcamncement of, Vue
d'Esprit, is completely off topic, will be considered as untolerable spamming
and will lead to the immediate banning of their author(s) form this list;

4. This list does not not tolerate or support software piracy in any way.
Therefore, all members that are evidently using pirated software, or shall make
apology of software piracy, or shall distribute information about pirated
software, or shall simply ask for pirated software, will be banned from this
list with immediate effect, and their ISP information will be routed to those
who may concern so that appropriate actions might be taken by the legal owners
of the pirated software. In the spirit of support and promotion of regular use
of the software, this list will re-admit members previously banned for piracy,
should they be able to prove their legal ownership of the software they
previously pirated;

5. This list is set not to accept attachments. If you have a Vue picture and you
would like to show it to the list, the recommended method is to upload it to a
web host and post a message to the list with a ink that points to your picture.
There are many providers offering free of charge web hosting, where you can
upload your pictures to. A "Files" section is also available at our list page at
Yahoogroups. You can upload your picture there too. In this case, please create
a folder with your own name first, and upload your picture unto that folder.
Keep in mind, though, that this solution can't be permanent, because our "Files"
space is soon filled, and we have to periodically clean the files away to make
room in it.

We also ask members to kindly comply to the following two simple guidelines when
writing messages to the list:

- please change the subject of a thread when it isn't anymore appropriate, e.g.
if in a thread called "atmospheres" you move on taliking about how to import
objects, rename the thread "How to import objects (was: atmospheres)". This will
facilitate the identification of messages especially with regards to automatic
search in the archive of past messages. Leaving a bracketed reference to the
previous subject titile will help readers in getting back to where the new topic
originated from;

- please mark off-topic messages with " OT " written in the subject of the
message. This will facilitate people who does not want to read off-topic
messages, to filter them off automatically

That's all - enjoy this Vue d'Esprit list!

You cannot import camera motion from Lightwave or from any other application. No
cameras, no lights.

for Cinema4D you have to install the Synchronisation Plugin.
From within Cinema you then can create Synchro Files.
Inside Vue Pro you can use this synchro file to controll position of
camera and lights for example.

I assume for Lightwave this should be about the same...

best,
Walli

There is no "plugin". Just download the 4.2 update. This allows you to import
Poser 5.

Well, I've tried this several times, but I'm unable to import a
Poser 5 file with a face image I've imported in the face room. No
matter what I export the face map as, Poser saves a PNG file in the
faceroom folder and saves that info with the PZ3 file that I export
into Vue d'Esprit 4.22 with Mover. Unfortunately, Vue doesn't
support PNG files and gives me an error during import.

I've tried to export a TIF file in the Poser face room and import it
back into the face room and save the Poser file again. No luck. Then
I tried renaming the PNG file in the faceroom folder. Vue imported
the file without the face map. I wish it asked to locate the file
with the option to use a supported file type.

I've checked the Poser 5 manual and all the online resources I can
find, but I have not located any information about this. Any
suggestions?

Hi,
First, put a copy of your .pz3 file in a safe place.
Second, right clic on the .pz3 icon. Open with... a text editor, for
example Wordpad on PC.
The .pz3 file is edited in plain text.
Make a search for the texture file "Runtime:Textures:faceroom:".
Replace the entire path and file by the texture map in TIFF or JPEG
format at your wish.
Repeat for all texture maps.
Finished?
Save the new .pz3 file (with a new name).
Import it in Vue4pro.
Are the texture maps visible now?

Normally Vu e4.2 (the latest build) reads perfectly PNG.
If ever you cannot get it, convert your png into another format and import it
manually into Vue or map your Poser figure inside Poser with it and then save it
as pz3.

E-on Software Ships Mover 5

DYNAMIC CLOTH AND HAIR ANIMATION SUPPORT ADDED TO FREE UPGRADE

March 19, 2004. Beaverton, OR. E-on software, the industry leader in natural,
outdoor 3D graphics, announces the immediate availability of Mover 5, the most
popular tool for hosting native format Curious Labs Poser 5 content.

"Mover continues to be the first and best third party commercial tool for
integrating animated, native Poser content with an external environment. Mover 5
is the delivery on the commitment to our shared community of 3D artists," said
Nicholas Phelps, president of e-on software.

With Mover 5, Vue d'Esprit 4 and Vue 4 Professional can import complete Poser 4
and Poser 5 animations, including specialty features in Poser 5 such as dynamic
cloth and hair. Mover 5 supports anisotropic reflections, a requirement for an
accurate and natural representation of hair in 3D rendering.

"Vue and Mover 5 provide Poser 5 users with the best way to leverage rich human
animation in a lush, dynamic, natural setting. The natural motion of cloth and
hair on the human form have found the perfect environment with windswept forests
and animated skies," said Marc Keohane, President of Curious Labs.

Mover 5 for Windows and Mac OS X expands on the already powerful animation in
e-on software's Vue d'Esprit 4 and Vue 4 Professional, allowing for inclusion of
fully animated digital characters, enhanced, new motion effects, and network
rendering. It also includes over $200 worth of Poser models from Daz
Productions, Dedicated Digital and Trilium36.

Mover 5 is available for $99 and requires Poser 4 or 5 for Poser animation
import and use of Poser models. Owners of Mover 4 qualify for a free
downloadable upgrade to Mover 5. Owners of Vue 4 Professional and Mover 4 can
automatically download and install the free upgrade directly from within Vue 4
Professional.

Saving the PNG to tif and changing it in the Poser material room
seems to be the best solution.

I did notice that some of the pre-built materials in Poser don't
transfer into Vue. Looks like they are non-rastor procedural-type
materials. I'm guessing that only basic materials or those that use
image files are supported in the Vue transfer process currently.

Insults and other serious offensive behaviour
will not be tolerated;

2. This list tolerates occasional off-topic threads, as it is our will to keep
the flow of discussion on this list as free as possible. However, the list
administrators will send warnings when an off-topic thread has gone on too long
or too far away from the scope of this list. Members are then required then to
comply to the administrator's requests;

All commercial messages that are not related to Vue d'Esprit
or other 3D software that can be used together with, or in enhcamncement of, Vue
d'Esprit, is completely off topic, will be considered as untolerable spamming
and will lead to the immediate banning of their author(s) form this list;

In the spirit of support and promotion of regular use
of the software, this list will re-admit members previously banned for piracy,
should they be able to prove their legal ownership of the software they
previously pirated;

I'm thinking about buying Mover 5. Since I have Poser 5, it would be useful
for importing Poser files into Vue 4. However it sounds like Mover is
mostly for animations and since I have no plans on making any animations I'm
wondering if I really need to buy it. Any suggestions?

If you don't animate, there's no need to get mover. Vue 4.2 (with a little work
and a lot of swearing) imports Poser 5 models. =)

Well, I don't know if I am correct or not here, but I suspect that some of
the Poser 5 features (like dynamic hair) are importable into Vue only
through the latest release of Mover.

Figures and "normal" (transmapped) hair are imported by Vue alone anyway,
and this is what counts the most for most people.

Thanks Orio and KWilliams,

I was thinking the same as you, Orio. That the dynamic features needed Mover
5 to import correctly. Which is why I was thinking about buying it. But I'm
not sure how much dynamic hair I'll be using anyway.

Thanks again for the advice!

Hi All--I have been trying to import a Poser 5 object into Vue 4.22 without
success.
Vue says it is importing but the object never appears in the window. Can
someone
tell me if this is a bug or what I'm doing wrong?

Given the fact that I can't seem to import a .pz3, I have been able to import an
.obj
(using V3). When I do that, the eyelashes come out solid and I cannot for the
life of
me, make the transmap work in the materials editor. Any suggestions?

I'm running a Macintosh G4, OS X 10.2.8.

Thanks much,
Denny

Hi there!!!

Finally I'm ready with my movie!!!!!!! :-)
After a long while passed on the realease of this movie, I've finally seen the
end of the work!
The movie is 3.35mn length... for 5441 pictures rendered in more than 4000
hours...
After 1000 crashed, 100 remodelings of the scenes & 10 cutted scenes... I'm
proud to present you "Au delà des mers", my most beautiful movie I ever made (I
just made one other... :-) )

For now, I uploaded the movie in "wmv" format (Windows Media Player encoder)
because the original size of the movie is 6Gb for a 800 X 600 format (Now is 8Mb
for 320 X 240)

Actually my site is not updated so you can see the movie only using this link:
http://www.vue3d.com/film/addm_web.wmv (//www.vues3d.com/film/addm_web.wmv)
if you get an error clicking on the link, just make a copy of the link & paste
it into your browser.

in the next days my site will be updated & a full 800 X 600 divX version will be
availiable. (40MB length, so the download will be availiable only for a short
time)
For those who have a HomeVideo (Beamer) I think I will also made availiable the
possibility to have a DVD...

Enjoy it... as I enjoyed the challenge!!!!!
Don't hesitate to make any comment!!!

Have a nice day...

Guido

I've been trying to map a door bitmap onto a door-shaped rectangle. The
image is basically the same shape as the rectangle. When mapped, the image
tiles on the shape instead of just flat-mapping to it in the correct size
(see pic(s)) (Note: my real door map is at work; this crappy one is just
for my trying to figure it out). : )

Here's the door map

www.citizendave.com/images/doorImage.jpg
Here's how it maps.

How do I get the map to fit the whole surface Once? (These are all the
default mapping settings except that I did switch to Object space mapping
instead of World mapping)

Thanks! Dave

Sorry, have no Mac so I can't help you... try contacting E-on's support,
they probably can help with your problem.

David,
Try the "mapping" settings of your object...it's in
the same menu where you applied your image...try
"flat"....then try "Picture Scale" X= left and right
Y= up and down....if those don't quite work ...resize
your door so it's more in proportion to your image.

Hi -
I updated my Vue4 (Windows platform) to Vue4.2 and when I tried to
import a Poser4 figure, you know the story, it said Poser had to be
installed and I was given the option to locate it - fine. But I get
an error message when it tries to locate the poser4 executable. The
error message is:

An error occured while reading poser file (error #-10005),
contact e-on if this problem persists.

Any Solution(s)? Thank you so much.

Yes, the most logical (and obvious): follow the message's advice and contact
E-on. The sooner you do, the sooner you'll get help.
E-on's support is very fast and responsive, they will solve your problem.
