Here I am again, and again, so many things to say, so little time.
Yesterday nught I was too tired to write about future plans, and this
morning, i am already getting late for work!

But I don't want this to be left out again so here's a quick list of
intentions that I am going to explain more this evening, when I will also
reply to the other emails. In the meantime, I am waiting for your comments
and ideas!

First, a communiqueé: after the first day of our list, subscribers are a
total of 29, it's not as incredible as they were the 22 after the first 14
hours but it's still a very respectful number! And I still have to
advertise the list at the other Vue places, which I am going to do this
evening.

Ok here's a quick list of the plans:

1) An open website for the community. By saying "open" I mean that
everything, from the graphic layout to the content, should be discussed and
contributed by all the members of the list. This way that place will become
really OUR place, don't you think?
So what I am going to do is to take the web space and begin to work (when
time allows) on a possible html template for the pages, hoping that you
could do the same so that we can collect all different ideas and together
choose what web graphics we love the most for our homepage. what do you
think?
Problem: how to post the html files? I set attachments off for this list.
This can obviously be discussed. I usually hate when I have to wait for
download times because of attachments when I just want to read my messages.
So what I am probably going to do is to open a twin list only devoted to
attachments. With this other list we'll be able to exchange also pictures,
materials, etc. what do you think about this?
Alternatively, we should rent a ftp space instead of a www space. Question:
is it possible to do it for free? I never met any geociites-like company who
offers free ftp space. If you know of any please let us know. We definitely
need either an attachment list or a ftp space.

2) interesting content for our homesite. I have ideas but don't have time
now to write, i'll do this evening, for the meantime, I'm waiting for yours!

3) A chat room for the community. I would like to have a chat space for the
community, and possibly set up with you a day and timw in which we could
meet, say once a month, for a monthly brainstorming in order to develop
ideas for our community as well as to get to know each other and have a
little fun. I would like this chat room to be "permanent" i.e. with a name
and identity, and obviously restricted so idiots can't access it. I don't
know of any software who could allow for that so please again if you know
let us know (software should definitely be freeware).

3) A close contact with E-on software people. I am going to work on it.

4) and other things. "see" you tonight !

LOL! I don't know about being a Vue veteran, but I do know I
feel ancient, so that must count for something. <grin>

The real Vue vets seem to be around the vue-desprit-fans
list, but unfortunately that list is very, very quiet. I
think they're all too busy creating amazing imagery to take
time to write much. ;)

Cool...thanks, Orio! If I recall right, I started with a
stock terrain texture and just kept fiddling with it. At the
time I was more interested in seeing my first full-picture
renderings than in getting too involved with the detail
work. Since that time though, I've developed a *load* of
various textures and materials, which I intend to offer from
my website at some point. Maybe having this list discussion
will provide the "kick in the butt" I've needed to package
those up. :)

There is another way - and you don't have to duplicate all your Poser maps.

Use the UV Mapper program from Steve Cox on the exported OBJ File. Just
import it into UV Mapper, then export it again. Select "Flip UV Map
Vertically" in the export dialog box and the resulting OBJ file will not
require flipped textures. It also seems to fix some problems I have had with
Poser figures that were wearing props that Vue seemed to refuse to import.

Greg

It is so easy you will laugh. Unfortunatly Poser obj's come thru
whiteish, but as 3ds the color comes with the figures. Now for the
textures( that look marvelous) go into your paint or photo program open
the texture you want to import turn it 180 degrees then flip/mirror it.
You must do it in that order(who knows why) make a folder in Vue call it
whatever and save the texture as a jpg. Open Vue import you obj click on
it as a whole that will open the materials area right click on the
material ball ,edit material, open the jpg, name and save it and it is
in your materials window for future use. Once you do it you will see how
easy it is. On Renderosity a member called Bongo told us this trick.

Hi Mary, Orio, others...

Just wanted to pop my head in and say hello. Saw a message fly by the Poser
list about you folks here, and thought I'd join in.

Been pretty busy lately, but having fun away from the computer a lot
recently. And yes, that is possible, I haven't been brainwashed ;-).

Popped a new image I had been working on with some experiments with clouds
on the Renderosity Gallery. Hopefully, I'll have a little more computer time
coming up soon to finish up that tutorial on transparent hair.

Regards to all,

Greg

*LOL* Oh Orio Thank you! :-)

Vue makes it easy I think tho - I ordered the extra veggies *G*
they should help - I think that they are so much easier to work with
than having to import objects all the time. *G*

Plus I really like the way Vue does soft shadows it's much
more realistic. ;-)

Mary :)

Oh, I did. The image was finished except for just a bit of post
production before I moved it off onto the zip disk. Vue didn't do
this...my whole hard drive took itself out. <G> And the alpha drive on
the networked machine (which has 2 hard drives)

The only problem I've had with Vue is the fact that 256mb just isn't
enough memory. I run out too quickly.

I love your pictures, they have an unmistakable "Vue d'Esprit" feel to them
that looks very good to me.
Your pink sky is delicious !! And the corals lovely.

Your talent is surely speaking the truth for itself even if you introduce

beginner with Vue, but as for the results... if they are a beginner's result
then perhaps I'd better sell al my graphic software and concentrate on

Varian,

so it seems you are the Vue veteran here !! :-) Good as we need an
"ancient member" LOL !! :-)
I already knew your Vue botanic series. You did a very good-looking and
realistic foreground IMHO.
I am really looking forward to your newer pictures.

Mbolokoski (should we call you this way?),

it's really interesting what you say. I imported Poser figures in Vue, too,
but they always "arrived" without any texture.
So I can only second Judith and say: could you please teach us how to import
poser figures together with textures?
And -I add- once our website will be online, could you allow it to have your
tutorial on it? :-))
That would be veeery kind !

Judith,

one thing I learned with Vue: ALWAYS save your images after a major change
or displacement in your composition.
Vue 3 is not stable unfortunately, it seems. A lot of people complain about
this on Vue's message board.
As far as my own experience has gone, I can tell you that my copy of Vue as
it came out of the box (version 3.01) was MORE stable than the version 3.02
I upgraded to after having downloaded the patch from E-onsoftware website.
So my suggestion is: if you still haven't upgraded to 3.02, stay with 3.01.
Unless you want to buy their newest vegetation which requires v.3.02 I think
(not sure, I have to check).

Hello everyone,
I have not had version 3 too long but am very impressed with the quality -
not having used the earlier version. It is quite intuitive to use and has
some excellent features. Its texturing is different to Terragen and is not
quite so life like at close range. I have been doing some A3 prints of some
early images. Rendering times for those interested vary according to
resolution etc but unless you have a very fast computer avoid the ultra
setting for antialiasing. With 59 objects and 16 million polys I have had
to render over 24 hours for a 3200 x 2400 image.
I am working on a new web design at the moment and there will be a page for
Vue D'esprit in a few weeks I hope.
It is amazing how many landscape generators there are now since I started
on Scene Generator on the Amiga many years ago.

Hello everybody!

This has been an exciting comeback from work.
I started this list 14 hours ago. I was frankly expecting 4 or 5
subscriptions today.
Well imagine my surprise when I opened the mailbox and found out that there
were 21 subscriptions to this list already! It makes 22 with mine, in 14
hours (less than 14 actually, but I'm not going into minutes here... LOL)

Well anyway, if you consider that I did NOT post yet any advertising to
existing Vue list or boards, only to the metacreations-related and the
terreagen lists at Onelist.com, you can see that this is quite a big number.
And if you consider that in the Americas there is still all the afternoon
and the evening to come, you can see that in the next 11 hours (so many
separates us from the end of the birth day of our vuelist,) many more
entries could still arrive !!
This is exciting isn't it?

Another great thing. I was a bit worried of the beginning for this list.
Usually new lists (like newborns in poor countries) undergo through their
major difficulties in the first days of their lives. This because the
mechanisms and "automations" are not properly "oiled" if you know what I
mean. So many people get discouraged from seeing the inbox empty and
unsubscribe.
So, on my way home tonight, I was thinking of posting a message like:
"please hold on in these first days of the list, that are going to be a
little difficult... hold on, don't unsubscribe, stay with us, and you'll be
rewarded... and things like this."
Well, imagine my surprise in finding 11 messages there already !! And not
only welcome messages, but already messages that go straight to art topics,
software topics, technique topics...

What can I say... this is fantastic!! This proves that this list was
needed. Now I have great expectations for this list, and already some ideas
to develop this community and make it stronger and more useful with the
time.
I am not going to write them now, as we have guests for dinner here tonight,
but as soon as the guests are gone, I'll do.
And I also will reply to the first letters, because interesting threads are
already beginning!

But before I leave the computer, I want to anticipate a major point. I dream
of this list being really of everybody. A common house. I had to assist to a
pitiful diatribe recently on the Poser lists, with two communities of Poser
users facing themselves and accusing themselves like if they were
politicians in a parliament. What a disgust. And how far from art, love,
creation that was.

I dream of this list, our list, as a really democratic venture, in which
everyone contributes with what he/she can contribute, no matter if it's much
or little. It's always much, as far as I can see, when you give some of your
art and knowledge to the others with only the purpose of contribute to the
common growth and happiness.
I am planning a website also, and other initiatives, really encouraged by
your passionate response to the list. And here too, I hope that we can build
all of this together.

But more on this later - I have to rush now. I'll be back in a very few
hours.

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you fellows and friends. Let's make together this
list a home so comfortable and useful like no other before !!!

And let me say " WHOOOPIE !!!!!" (hats high in the air) :-)

Thanks Varian!

It's easy to do great sand with Vue the textures for sand are wonderful. I'm
real impressed with it.

I have tried previously to get that pinkish sky but never could quite do it
in Bryce but in Vue it's built in a preset! WOW!

*G* It's a great program IMO, I've lots to learn in it but am really pleased
with what I have found so far.

Now to experiment a little bit and see what else I can do - I'm really
impressed tho and my hubby gave me the ok to buy the extra veggies Yipee!
:))

I'm going to join the Vue webring too after I get a few more images up I
think. It's really a lot of fun using this program *G*

Painter 5.5 has a image slicer but you can get it in PhotoImpact 5 too and
that's less expensive also there is one in Corel Photopaint 9 it's a script
file that does it for photopaint. I think there are plugins and there are a
few stand alone programs that do it as well. Also I *think* Fireworks does
it too ?

Mary :-)

That's the one thing I'm having a real problem with...importing
textures. I've mostly been doing it a piece at a time. A tutorial would
be very helpful. Since you seem to have the knack, would you, could you?

Welcome to Vues new area. I have been using Vue for about 10 days now and I
love it. Poser figures look
wonderful once you get the texture importing down. The Vegetations
are great too. I find it is very easy to use and you can really experiment with
every area your right click does alot.

Yep, v3. The crash was NOT related in any way to any of the graphics
programs. My network just decided to die and leave unrecoverable errors
on both machines.

I'm up and running at present but am going to have to redo the whole
thing all over again because I reinstalled some things in the wrong
order.

So I'm not doing too much graphic stuff at the moment.

Hi Mary,

I've visited your site previously. We're "neighbors" on a
web ring (although I forget which one offhand now).

Anyway, these are both nice images. I especially like the
sand texture you used in the Sunset on the Gulf. Very cool
to see a few stones showing through like that.

And, a little OT, but...I like seeing how you've sliced the
images for web display. That's an idea I've been considering
using in my galleries, as I believe it would help discourage
image bots and the like. So it's neat to see it in use by
someone.

     Is this with version 3?

Hi Jeff,

I'm just saying hello too just joined the list. I got Vue this past week and
I really love it. I only have 2 images up so far and bear in mind I'm real
new with the software so I am just a beginner with it *G*

The urls are:
Florida Sunset on the Gulf
http://www.widowsweb.com/design/gallery/3d/3dgallery34.html

and the next is Reef Angel and it's here:
http://www.widowsweb.com/design/gallery/3d/3dgallery35.html

The only touch up work I did was to the Angelfish's eye - I am going to fix
the image map I think that way I won't have to use a 2d prog to work on
them.

I hope you can get this program Jeff - with what you know about 3D and art
you will surely create some awesome work. It's got depth of field, soft
shadows and a 4 up view to work in - I find easy to use because of that too.
Why don't you go download the demo that might help you to see what it does
up close? :)

Mary :-)

Good morning, all! :)

I got Vue 2 about eight months ago, and now I've got 3, but
haven't installed it as yet because I'm due for a new
computer system soon, so I'm waiting for that. I've been
enjoying the program very much and am pleased with the
quality of images I can get without needing to be a "rocket
scientist". <grin>

I've only got a very few on the web yet, which you can find
here in the "Botanic" section:
<http://www.varian.net/dreamview/dreamvista/>
Those represent my very first renderings with Vue, so
they're sort of "raw". Better ones will be added when I get
a chance to work on the website.

What I like most about the program is the low-polygon
vegatation (and the ability to manipulate the materials for
it), and the total ease and simplicity of the Boolean
operations. I've been able to create somewhat complex scenes
almost completely with primitives, without it taking a long
length of time or complicated procedures. I really love
that.

Thanks to Orio for the new list!

:)
